Thats a cool movie… I think it was made in zbrush .5
I emailed Pixologic last Friday and this is basically what they said:

Is this all they’ve ported to the mac! No wonder it’s not done yet!
I feel your frustration - everyone here does. We all have been waiting a long time! I don’t know exactly what you asked Pixo, but am going solely by your post here: As far as beta testers go, I can at least understand if Pixologic wants to get users who meet specific requirements. I don’t know what specific requirements had to be met, but it would seem logical to me that they would be looking for the most experienced, prolific, and affluent mac ZBrushers they could find to test the newest mac version. That way, they would get optimum feedback during the development process. It could just be that others were more qualified than you. You are relatively new at ZBrush compared to several others in these forums. Try not to take that particular decision so personally. There is plenty else to get bent out of shape about.
I’m gonna try to hang on a bit longer and see if anything develops. In the meantime, I’ll put the SAD MAC FACE up again. Maybe, just maybe, Pixo will see it and be so moved, they’ll just have to answer our pleas.
How can they resist that face?
I can’t …
Got to… Buy… new… Mac!!
Okay, I officially blame that actor for emptying my visa.
You guys, have a really nice day.
WWDC today, happy Mac folk for the next week & beyond…
Looking forward to iPhone update…
WWDC is today and still no news on a release, This makes me a sad panda on the plus side 3d world have some great human body tutorials for zbrush… Oh wait, its zbrush 3! DAMN!
I hope they will make the iPhone available in Denmark, because my old Motorola is semi-busted.
I would also love to see an AppleTV update, so movie rental would be available international.
Of course any info on new features of Mac OS X is always welcome, tho its not too important for me.
No more Morse code, folks. If you can’t say it openly, don’t say it.
good call Aurick!
Since Pixologic is not forthcoming with honest information, it’s natural for one to imagine what might be going on there. Several years ago a software company I dealt with announced a forthcoming product that really got me excited. It was in the “home design” category but promised advanced features that would put it head and shoulders above all competition (sound familiar?). They even went so far as to establish a dedicated page on their website to keep their users and potential future users up to date on the progress of this new application. The list of features was mouth watering–it clearly would be capable not only of meeting the needs of hobbyists as well as professional architects, but would also be a very nice basic 3D modeling program. I visited that web page every day. I was stoked.
Then something happened. The announced delivery date came and went, and for a protracted period of time there were no new updates on the info page. After a month or so I emailed them and managed to make contact with a junior officer of the company. (I had by now been waiting a year and a half for the release of this new app!) He at first sounded at least guardedly optimistic and talked of unexpected snags in the beta program. Little by little, though, his emails to me became more and more pessimistic. He frankly despaired of ever seeing the product released. There were problems with it and he suggested that I at least temporarily look to other apps made by other companies as a substitute. The website stagnated and did not change for months at a time.
In his last email to me I learned what had happened. While the intended functionality of the finished product may not have been overly optimistic, the job of coding it was. After a year on the job, the original coding team was fired and replaced by another group. They promised success, but once they got into it they discovered that the original team had gone down a wrong path in the architecture of the thing and had boxed themselves into a corner from which it was impossible to continue. The new team worked back to the starting point, looked the whole thing over, and realized that the app would have to be redesigned and started over from the beginning. Whether or not they may have succeeded was now academic, because the company had run out of money. The project was scrapped, and ultimately the comany was sold and the new owners gave it a new name, tried to survive by selling a bunch of old, hopelessly out of date apps, and finally folded for good.
This is what can happen with programming, and this is why I suggested in a previous post that something at Pixo has “gone terribly wrong.” It all fits. Why else virtual silence from the company except for a repeated, vague promise? Why else release dates that keep being put back for months at a time? I realize that in this case an already established PC app is being ported to the Mac and not just being created from the ground up. And I know that there has been a previous iteration, ZB2, that worked on the Mac. But this is the Intel Mac, a different animal altogether.
I am not a programmer, so I can only guess based on what I see from the outside, and from previous experience, not all of which has been good. I can easily visualize the current team of coders up a box canyon, trying to backtrack, and finding themselves hopelessly mired down in a convoluted mess from which they cannot extricate themselves.
So this all has a familiar ring to it, except that here I rely on this forum and from one hogtied individual named aurick; whereas with that other company there was no such forum but I was able to make contact with an insider who fed me confidential information. Pixologic has handled this delay in a deplorable and insulting fashion in my opinion. Even if ZB3 for Mac should suddenly appear, there are going to be a lot of users who will never forget the way they’ve been treated, and who will retain a very bad taste in their mouth, if not for ZB3 itself, then certainly for the Pixologic company.
it’s a sad and horryfying story… but I suppose that you are right.
Zdrey, couldn’t have been said better. I agree with your POV completely, although this is the first experience for me in this situation. There is obviously something very wrong. There is some problem that they are dealing with and it must be a biggie. I am about to write this whole thing off. Atleast I got to use Zbrush 2 for a little while and if I ever get ZB3 for the mac, I doubt I will EVER pay for an upgrade. I imagine I will use it until it dies and hope for the competition to get stiffer, but who knows. It’s a pipe dream to even imagine running ZB again at all on any machine I will ever own.
What an embarrassment. Treat your customers like crap, and see what happens. That may be why they decide to scrap it all together, you can’t just destroy a user base and expect customer satisfaction and loyalty. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a sticky stating refunds available just to get out of this mess.
Sheesh! I think we all might be asked to go back to using morse code after that well-worded “worst case scenario” from Zdrey.
I really hate how plausible it sounds.
Da-yum. What a way to start a week.
Hey, at least theres wwdc today- and for
some there’s Gnomon this weekend
live feed of wwdc if anyone wants to keep up:
http://electronista.cachefly.net/
Hope it doesn’t come down to refunds, but who
knows - gonna try keep optomisitic and then,
not think about it anymore. At least I don’t have
to troubleshoot system conflicts in extension
manager anymore…
Thanks for the link Super Glitcher
I was just going to look for some info.
