so what’s zbrush 3.1 like on an osx boot but running zbrish 3.1 in a window using parrallels or vmware?
Thanx! What I do with zbrush is combine the sculpting with digital painting to give it an artistic feel. I’m going to post some cool stuff next month for sure. Darn graphic design keeps me distracted, which is a good thing for my bills, just not my portfolio!
Despite what I said in an earlier post, today I installed VMware and Windows on my iMac. According to what I read it seems the best option. I’ve had a bit of a go in ZBrush 3.1, there’s a bit of lag but ok for learning. I’ve yet to give it a thorough work out. So we will see. Got sick of waiting and don’t want my learning to suffer any more. I still want to see a proper OSX release this side of christmas. Here’s hoping Aurick’s post on friday is good news! Bring it on!
Oh, and great work by the way James!
I hope this is true, like everybody, I was visiting this thread every time to see the last news but the last news took about more than a year. After promises, false affirmations, We really hope to be at the of this litany.
No thanks… I’m not installing windows on my mac again.
I’ll just wait for MUDBOX to come out for MAC. Or until Zbrush 3.5 comes out for MAC. But that might be 3 years from now. If you ask me PIXO dropped the ball at game time with the mac users. They had a good window to lock in a strong user base on the mac before something else came out. Intel based mac’s are selling like hot cakes. Just hang out in front of a mac store. It’s insane. It’s like crack.
I saw 5 mac book pros roll out in under 10 min. The place is packed with people. It would have been nice to sit down in the mac story and have a demo of Zbrush 3.1 on there working for the people to see. They really need to open another store in Sacramento California. That place is always packed. Soon the people will start asking for more software from the dev teams out there. Times are changing Mac is keeping tempo and the pc world isn’t changing it’s following and trying to keep up.
But this is what you get with people that pick VHS over BETA.
live and learn
Not to be an ass… but OS X would have picked up on all your spelling mistakes.

Thanx man! ZBrush work will be posted sometime in the near future. I’m much faster at just Photoshop painting, but the work with ZBrush incorporated is coming out very nice.
For learning and some low res models it’s fine. But if you want to do detailed models then things start to slow down (rotation begins after a few miliseconds, the model goes to wireframe mode to refresh, brushes aren’t as responsive etc) . It’s not that you can’t work but there’s no reason to put yourself in that situation.
The limit for my computer is 3 million polys. This is where it starts to slow down but if you have the patience you can still work.
My system: MacPro Quad core 2.66GHz, 6Gb of Ram, ATI Radeon 1900XT 512MB of ram.
I am starting to believe that pixologic is ran from vatican by the pope itself.
Look. This pope tells you about heaven (give me 500 and i´ll give you heaven) oh its so beautifull and will give you eternal hapiness… bla bla bla.
And they act exactly as god… They hear you, they know what you are thinking but they will not answer you in ANY way and they will let you starve without a word.
Pixologic ways are misterious and no mortal soul can understand them.
Behold you worms the allmighty pixologic…
Why i don’t even bothered to get the temporary licence? Because i migrated to mac seven years from now and i forgot pcs and i ceirtainly don’t want to remember them. I just hate them. i feel like if i have arthritis when i touch one. i’m kind of allergic to them
Not everybody loves pc or mac and no body should be forced to switch to anything. And telling me that while my gal is ready i can start pumping my mother in law is not my idea of erotism.
My ONLY complait to pixologic is that they said SHORTLY AFTER pcs launch.
Then ignoring us is crap. they have such a good product that i have no choice but to bare this abuse but if i had a single other option i would ever even consider to look them back again.
Great, thanks for pointing out that out to me.
I’m not arguing a stupid os war.
I don’t pick sides, I pick tools that work and right now for sculpting and painting it’s windows. I can’t sit and wait I got paying clients NOW.
I’m not going to sit and watch money pass me by and other people’s zbrush skills go through the roof for 2 years while I let my weird obsession to a piece of software get in my way.
In a few more years of macs running windows people saying things like this will be a thing of the past.
Not to be an ass but I bet that spell check comes in real handy when it’s time to detail a model.
Let’s both hope this annoucment is on time, the release date comes soon and on time. I want everyone’s built up frustion unleashed into some kick ass awesome zbrush work.
SHORTLY is a relative term. Kinda depend on your scale doesn’t it? 1.5 years is a couple of life-times for fruit flies. On the other hand, 1.5 years to a red wood is a blink of an eye.
I think Pixo miscalculated the effort involved in porting the application and/or mastering the art of unified coding on different OSes. I am sure Pixo thought that at the time of the 3.0 release that it would be able to deliver a Mac version within a short time frame.
The question now is if we are going to see a Mac version of ZBrush before 3.5.
Talking about how packed the ONLY store in your area that sells Macs happens to be compared to the MULTITUDES of stores that sell Windows PCs is a bit disingenuous, IMO…
Nope. The Mac release is 3.5, as announced.
3.1 has been skipped, and there will be a unified PC/Mac 3.5 release. At least there will be new features and goodies, though!
I agree you can go to any of the thousands of Best Buy’s and see 5 windows laptops go out the door at any given time at this time of year also.
I feel you. I already lost paying work do to poor info from pixo. But it’s all cool. I think pixo was trying to see where mudbox was so they could then plan out their next move. It just sucks big time that we have to wait until 2009. But after being used like this. I’ll be forced into mudbox. I’m sure pixo will do just fine with out me and my 20 seats I was gunnah buy. They have all the windows users they don’t need me. I bet they sip coffie and LOL at all the OS X users.
sigh…

Name a store that cells 5 PC laptops in 10 min?
I get around a lot in California and all I see are mac’s and people who wants macs.
You don’t understand… the place is ALWAYS PACKED…
PC stores are closing in this area. DELL and HP are losing market share to MAC. Sure they still have TONS more market share than mac but it’s starting to change. I can sit in a best buy and not see one pc laptop being sold all day. I even heard a guy go up to a best buy worker and ask if they had a mac area. I see your point tho… There are far more PC stores. But there not packed with people. Every mac store I’ve been to or seen images of is PACKED… And product it leaving the door at a fast rate.
When I got my 3 macs for home use. 11 people in my fam changed over to mac. I have a 20" imac right now under my desk. for my wife’s Grand parents.
They saw how fast I made a dvd movie and were shocked.
And don’t think ill of my mac passion. I use to be a hard core mac bashing ninja! But then vista came out. And I was like “why did they copy OS X so much?” Then I went to a max store and played on one and was sold.
MAC’s still have a some work to do on the open GL side. But I’m sure in time they will come around and speed it up a bit.
I think what made me change over to mac was the fact that windows was just copying someone else ideas and not trying to come up with there own.
Zbrush is the missing door in OS X. If I had that I would feel as right as rain.
I think the best little computer I ever used was a mac mini duo core 2.6 I think… with 2 gigs of ram… I was so shocked how fast it was and how stable. If the little thing had a nvidia 8800 in it I would have kept mine. This mac pro is nice and it’s so easy to clean and work on. If you need a new HD, you just slide it in. No cables… I love that. It makes NO FAN sounds. My PC sounded like a 747. Well I’m starting to sound like a mac leetus that I use to dislike. God has a funny way of making things change around you to wake you up. I’ve leanred to try to new things and not be a fan boy unless your getting paid to be one.
Well my cryo chammber is ready and I must sleep now until DEC.
Crawles back into his cave. Cuts off the light. click…

You know that right after bringing up OSX spell check in an argument, Sir Storm, you just misspelled a ton of words, right?!?
Sorry, I’m easily amused!
May ZBrush 3.5 bring peace to the world!
@ jamespthornton
Pixologic did not officially announce anything about skipping a release pre-3.5 for OS X. that is something a few members assumed and incorrectly read between the lines from the short Siggraph report from aurick. we will hear an official word on ZBrush for Intel OS X this coming Friday. all that was said is that zBrush 3.5 is to be released simulataneously for OS X and PC–nothing more.
we may likely see a release for OS X before the simultaneous release of zBrush 3.5 for OS X and PC.
and as i’ve brought to attention before, the system specs at pixologic.com still say zBrush 3.1 OS X Intel…
Don’t know how packed the pc only stores are, because I don’t go in them. However, the Apple Store in my neck of the woods is always packed as well. In fact, last time I was visiting it, there must have been at least 20 employees in that little store at the time, and they were still looking to hire more help.
Apple’s market share may be small, but it’s growing faster than many of it’s pc competitors:

@smokebox46and2…and3and4aswell…
Fair enough, they didn’t say anything about skipping 3.1. They did say that 3.5 is a unified PC/Intel Mac release, 4th quarter '08. From my point of view, that is the 3.x release we’ve been waiting on and the official news about it.
I hope you’re right, but wouldn’t bet on it.
My suspicion is we’ll have to wait, and that it’ll be worth it in the end! Cheers to Friday!
Oh, sure. Get my hopes way up again.
