Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

Ha! (Off Topic) WB just pulled a Pixologic. They promised Harry Potter 6 in November, and ended up pushing the release date back 9 months. Funny thing is I read the news and thought, “Well it’ll still beat Zbrush 3.5.”

As someone who anticipated this eventuality, and was able to prepare for it; it’s seen as a step in the right direction, if it finally means that Pixologic can really deliver ZBrush 3+ to the Mac, and continue to do so in a timely manner with future upgrades.
However, I really feel for the PPC users, who are going to be left on the outside looking in. I doubt this decision was made lightly. Still, that will bring little consolation to PPC users. This is a no win situation, to say the least.

Relax, the PPC is still good for other things

Sorry for my “(User thread - Unofficial) For ZBrush 3.5 os X Beta testing, apply here !”, but i’m upset waiting for a release. Since i bought ZBrush in March, hoping for a quick osx port, and still having nothng from pixologic, I thought that creating this thread will make things move…
In fact, things moved, as Aurick closed it…

omg! i need me a g3 beer server! classic!

Do they make a hookah? I would put some G13 in a G3 any day! No PCP in a PPC, though, that’s not allowed…

This will be the first unified version of ZBrush. That means that it will be released concurrently for Windows and Mac (Intel).

When I read this all it says to me is Mac users will still have to load ZBrush 3.5 in Windows through Bootcamp or some other windows immulator. ZBrush 3.0 was released concurrently for both Windows and Mac (Intel) only users as well, because you had to have an Intel machine to run ZB3 on a Mac under Bootcamp.

This announcement really doesn’t say if ZB 3.5 is a “native OS X” program or not.

I bought ZBrush over 2 and half years ago when they first announced "Buy ZBrush 2 now and get a Free upgrade to ZBrush 3.0. I’m still waiting for a ZBrush that I can run natively on my Intel Mac.

Nowhere in any of these recent statements is it claimed that ZB 3.5 will run natively on Mac OS X. They just tell you concurrently. Which is what they told us with ZB 3.0. Unified and Concurrently do not mean “natively”.

eh, not really that PO’d just REALLY sarcastic. It’s just that some of us dont have the luxury of spending $2500-4500 for a new computer AND I dont spend money loosely so buying ZBrush in anticipation of getting the new Z3 was a mistake…it just kills me that i was a sucker and bought into it without checking out ZBrush’s rep first. Looooooong release times, no updates, etc.

eh, well…so what…right?

Don’t be ridiculous…

Like they would go public at SIGGRAPH and completely lie to this extreme. Like they ever said anything like that when 3.0 was released. Like, because they’ve ran into some problems (that they have solved for mac from here on), they’re totally and completely full of crap…please, your just really creative and paran.

There also is a REAL beta testing that’s been going on since they announced it, saying that’s a lie is another oddball claim I’ve heard around here.

I figured an OFFICIAL announcement from Pixologic (the first one about the mac zb 3.x, by the way) would finally calm the negative speculation in this thread. Some how, some way, you all have just counter acted it with the wildest conspiracy theories you can dream up.

jamespthornton did you know your join date for this forum is Dec 1969?

Now I kind of find that hard to believe. Talk about a conspiracy theory… I guess you’re telling everyone Pixologic was around in 1969?

James,

1969 !!! Wow !!!
I’m not sure the Mac did exist at this time !
I bought my first Mac in 1980 (was a 512 K)
And it costed me almost $ 3 000
3000 bucks for a soap box !!!

I am compelled to click on this thread every time I see it at the top.

Exactly. It’s ‘official’ now, and it would be best for all to take a deep breath and relax. It’s coming.

Personally, I’m happy to see Pixo take their time and do this thing right. Would you prefer to have a piece of software with a million bugs in it just for the sake of having it ‘fast’?

And for those with a PPC, well… I do feel for you, but you and I know that eventually you’ll have to upgrade - or at least want to - sooner or later. If you can’t afford it, you can always finance it! I, too, have a PPC, and a Mac Pro Dual, and am planning a Quad soon. I also had an Apple II, an Apple IIe, Apple IIc, Apple IIGS, the first Mac’s, and on and on. Eventually, you’ll HAVE to upgrade anyway, right? And you’ve got 4 months to think about it.

Peace all. It’s coming, so let’s let cooler heads prevail here, eh? Besides, gripping and whining about it isn’t going to change one single thing. It’ll only make YOU more miserable - and that’s not good fer yer blood pressure.

M

Agreed, however, receiving it “Fast” with bugs kind of made me laugh. They are soooo beyond “fast” it’s ridiculous!

Haha!
(This is a quote of a previous post of mine, in a ZBC thread where someone noticed the same thing and asked me about it. Posting this after my G13/G3 and PCP/PPC joke probably has you all thinking I’m a junkie…)

"That’s because I took a bunch of drugs during the lsd hippie era. One day I tripped so hard my mind and body got zapped almost thirty years into the future. It was like when Neo enters the Matrix, except with more than just red and blue pills to choose from. As a previous painter of weird hippie stuff, I immediately was attracted to the art medium of the future, the computer, and started zbrushing. I miss the music, though…

…take note that zspheres become even more difficult if the walls around you are melting and for some reason you find it funny…

…I have no clue!?! I wasn’t even a spermie until late '82…"

It was a long swim…

It really just amazing me how some people are just so optimistic. They have had a VERY LONG time already to fix any major bugs. There are always going to be minor bugs no matter what. EVERY product has bugs because it’s made by humans… in Pixologic’s case… human. At some point you have the say OK done is done and then work on the next release.

fair enough on that but you can get a much cheaper intel. minis are $600-ish. imacs $1500-ish. i think the low end quad tower is around $2000 right now. yeah the cheapest imac is worthless. and yeah the mini isn’t exactly a “woohoo” machine but with 2 gigs in it, it’ll handle zb. refurbs and used can be pretty good finds too. of course i’d rather have an 8 core with 16 gigs too. But good heavens no - don’t finance anything you can’t pay off in a couple months! debt = blech…

Remember that the Famous Mac commercial was for 1984. The real first Mac was the Lisa which had LIsaDraw, Calc, Project, Write, Paint, had a 5 MEG harddrive and was only 10,000 for the whole thing… I was in love having come off Dos, and my Apple 11c.

until you work off an osbourne with a 5 inch b/w screen. I still remember friends coming in and being happy to write code to create a rectangle.
So all you new guys…appreciate what we have and where we’re going.

Don,

I’m 64 now
Oh my god !!!
Already ???
