Me, and every other mac user has waited over a year for ZB3 to come out on the Mac. I finally got an email to download it, and of course the download failed and I had to wait another day.
I just installed the app, finally ready to get to work when… I find that ZB3 for Mac is only for Intel Macs only. I gotta tell ya. In the words of John Stewart… I feel like pixologic just took a big **** on my chest.
I was told back in May of 2007 that I could use the windows versions under bootcamp until the Mac version came out, and I told pixologic staff that I didn’t have an intel mac, to which they replied: when ZB3 comes out it was going to be Universal Binary, and that’s why it’s taking longer to develop, so just hang tight and it will be out soon. Fast forward 16 months…
I think what is apparent now is that you scum bags decided to do it for Intel long ago, and you waited, figuring most Mac users would have Intels by now, so you would be able to justify only making it for Intel Macs. Piggy backing your release in time with Adobe CS4 which is only for Intel makes it seem much more legitimate, however Adobe has been releasing UB versions for several versions of their creative suites, so it’s understandable for them to switch. At least they didn’t leave users with powerpc Macs out to dry.
What is the purpose of lying to the people who buy your products? We’re the ones who actually spend the hard earned cash instead of most of the users who steal it. Students steal it. Professionals steal it. Even people with companies steal your software and everyone knows it.
And since I am not just some half-a-moron who works out of some hut and poorly models orcs for kicks, and I actually know people in this industry and others, you can be damn sure the press will be informed, even if they don’t give a ****. More and more you’re all cut from the same cloth. The brown cloth.
Bottom line, you lied to a paying customer, and if you lied to me, I’m sure you lied to others.
Truthfully, I’d rather continue to pay other artists to do portions of projects that require Zbrush-type work, and wait to develop my own proprietary 3D paint software, rather than give your company another damn dime. I’d rather pour inordinate amounts of money into THAT, rather than allow you to profit from me.
And if you’re wondering why I just don’t go buy an intel mac, my powerpc that I spent $15,000 on does what I need it to, and I run a small place, even though we do jobs for big companies, we don’t have the money to go drop a stack of thousands for new Intels.
And so, I’ll leave you with a final thanks. Thanks for Zbrush 2, which had the worse UI/workflow designed by man, so bad in fact that I, who have taught myself everything from music production to maya, couldn’t halt my projects to learn it, which is what I would have needed to do to get any real use out of that clunky monstrosity. And thanks for making me wait for version 3 which actually seems much, much better, only to find out I can’t use it. You’re my heros.
