Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

Ha ha! I had a thought (ha ha again) What if the next time around, say next upgrade, Pixologic says thank you to the Mac folks for believing and using Zbrush way back when and for all their patience in light of recent situations and serve up the next version of Zbrush for the Mac community first?! I know, I know, “Ha ha!!”

Still patiently waiting…

Aurick, thanks so much for addressing this thread as often as you have. It’s good to know that it won’t be long until I can totally dump the Windows partition off of my Mac. It’s funny—when I open Windows, there’s only one ZB icon right in the middle the desktop besides the trash bin.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys have worked on for the mac peeps!

I here ya! the time i waste for the extra start up of vmware fusion has got to be adding up to days now for me. i would just cut it loose but xsi is on it too. looks like i will be honing my maya skills so i may leave windows forever. :stuck_out_tongue:

Geez, I think I’ve got it even worse, because I’m running under Bootcamp. I’ve never used VMWare, but I assume it’s a little faster than restarting all the time.

I’ll just stop bitching there, though, as many fellow Mac users don’t even have the luxury of being able to use ZB3. Hopefully they will soon!

I’m very impressed how well ZB3 runs under bootcamp - but my word, by the time Vista gets its act together and stops churning out ludicrous numbers of update, security, general warning and info boxes, the dismission of which cause endless interruption to my workflow, I kind of lose the will. Can’t wait to run ZB in OsX, then the learning will begin in earnest

Hey Aurick,

I’ve been following this thread since you started it, thanks again for all the constant updates. I’m excited for the release of 3 for mac, but I do have one big concern- are current mac zbrush 2 users going to get the same amazing deal as the windows side did a year ago- free upgrade? I’ve held out upgrading to 3 through bootcamp because I thought I read somewhere that if I upgraded in bootcamp and then later wanted to upgrade on my mac side I’d have to pay because I’d essentially have 2 licenses- one on bootcamp and one on my mac partition. Thanks, now I’ll get back to my mac zen-waiting-meditation with the rest of the group

The Mac version will be a free upgrade to ZBrush 3. Also, if you’d like to run Z3 under Boot Camp, we’re providing a free temporary PC license to use until Z3 Mac is launched. You can contact [email protected] to receive this.

God, you guys ROCK! Thanks for putting up with us, I’ve heard the intel switch has been a pain in the ass. Totally appreciate all the work you guys are putting into this!

Sav, you’re a brave man using Vista! I’m also impressed by the performance under Bootcamp (using XP.) I’ve never had any issues at all.

Aurick,

I want to thank you for dispersing the confounding cloud that has shrouded Zmapper on the Mac. I never understood why it never happened considering Zmapper is so crucial to effecient intergration with Maya on the Mac.

Oddly I never got Zmapper working on Bootcamp or Parrallels, then it caught a virus. Until I get a ZB3 Mac license, I’m chucking the PC. ZB2 is sufficient quickly building models from Zspheres and texture painting maps. Here’s a sample. I did the Porcupine from scratch in ZB2.

Zmapper is also generates revenue with tutorials, a few of which I have purchased despite lack of support. I feel it will come in handy one day.
Last but not least, thanks FelixCat. FelixCat has purchased my DVD in which I promote the use of ZB2 in the (workflow) capacity I have forementioned (fast CA modeling and texture painting).

Hi all, just subbing into this thread so the when the news finally comes I’ll hear along with the rest of you. Here’s hoping!

Hey guys,

I switched to the mac platform for my 3d work almost a year ago, anyways i’ve stoped using windows cuz well the reason i switched was cuz i got some virus (my brother allowed his friend to come use my work station without permission (i left my computer on cuz it was doing some rendering)and well his friend plugged an external hdd in and ruined everything the harddrive was un recoverable it didn’t boot, everything just stoped working just like that)

anyway i lost alot of work but luckily had some of the work backed up so anyways i cried that day and it was prolly the most miserable day of my life i had to redo so much work, so i decided to go mac, never again i am going back to windows. I am waiting for ZB3 for mac and i hope it works perfectly and i have to say i really appreciate aurick giving updates like this, it makes the wait much easier.

I used to use ZB2 for some projects i did anyways i haven’t touched ZB n a while cuz i’ve kinda been waiting for its release on the mac. I am afraid of using windows now.

If I’m reading what Aurick wrote right, then we still won’t have ZMapper for ZBrush on the Mac side? The excuse being that they left out the basic tool set needed to add ZMapper functions is kind of lame to me. They would have to rewrite a lot of the base code in order to add the new functions for ZBrush 3 so why not add those base functions for ZMapper while you’re at it? To leave ZMapper base function out again on the Mac side this time is just too lame of an excuse.

I like ZBrush, but I do a lot of work in Maya, Lightwave and Cinema4D and I’ve been waiting for ZMapper to come out for the Mac for a long time. If that’s the excuse for not adding it this time, Sorry but that excuse just doesn’t wash this time.

Hello Aurick,

It was a long long wait , patiently we have been waiting for this release on our platform and I cannot believe this marvelous software will be back on track in 7 days… because after its march !!! He he he

I miss, posting images !!!

Has Pixologic been fixing bugs found in PC 3.1 for the Mac release and timing a PC patch for the same time?

“Wow. I never knew that Zmapper was not also on the Mac. I really hope that will not be the case for very long as its an integral part of zbrush to me. I also just bought Photoshop CS3 for the mac for doing exactly that”

i think you confuse zmapper for zapplink.

anyway… it’s going to be a huge disadvantage not to have zmapper! i hope it goes well.

personally i stuck with a mixed pipeline windows/mac and mostly on windows , because of the creative suite delay.(there was no ZB 3 then)

I prefer to work in one side, it wasn’t an easy decision to buy all software for win but (fortunately) it worked greatly (needs a lot of care to run on windows),
my mac side it’s my personal computer and windows it’s work…
but i think now, that intel transition regarding software it’s almost complete it’s good time for mac only.

i 'm curious is there a mac version for uv-layout ? (i checked ,it’s not)…there is allways something…

aaaaauuuuuuummmmmmmm!

 I always get zmapper and zapplink mixed up.

Of course it doesn’t really explain why, when Zbrush 2, which was developed after the pc version, did not have the commands added then.

Which as I said before points to the commands not being available for the Mac platform and not actual Pixologic code as such.

Therefore is it any more likely that it will be a different story for Zbrush 3? Who knows. Lets just hope so and that we dont have to wait for a silly amount of time if it is going to come the Mac way.

Then again how can you take seriously the ramblings of someone who can’t tell the difference between Zapplink and Zmapper in the first place.

Cheers

Mike R

I’m pulling for zMapper/mac too! I really hope it’s resolveable!
Hope I’m not straying too far off topic, but as a side note ylannis-
I mailed the guys at UV Layout about a mac version a couple
months ago, and transitioning my license, and got something
back about an '08 release  Haven’t heard anything concrete,
but then I haven’t been on their forums for a while now.

fingers crossed holding breath

I might wind up getting zBrush 3 for mac AND Smash Brothers Brawl
in the same month… so much for sleep!!

I mailed Headus too back in august of last year. The response I got was: “We’re not currently working on it, but hope to someday”.
Make of that what you will.

When/if they do decide to port to OSX I sincerely hope they hire a GUI specialist because UVLayout’s GUI is just about as rubbish as you can get. (Still has the best unwrapping tools outthere though… ). The GUI as it is would stand out like a sore thumb amidst the polish of OSX.

i was also told by the developer of uvlayout that '08 development is planned and would be a free license conversion because of the tie to the user’s hardware ID or dongle.

patiently, yet eagerly, awaiting the ZB3 release for mac. i’m a recent windows to os x switcher and am really enjoying the elegance of this OS (i swore i’d never say that…lol). it should look even more amazing with ZB3 on-screen.
