Hi. Are you folks planning to do a mass mailout and notification for registered Mac users when ZB3 for Mac is finally released? I remembered today to check up on it, after months of forgetting about ZB. It’s sad to forget about ZB. I think a mailout would be very appropriate, and hope we will get broad notice upon its release.
Here’s to yet in February, or March…
OMG! Congratulations! I never got a chance to use that line! (still waiting for an unsuspecting realist)
Well, I’m gonna go ahead and bump this thread. hehe…
I imagine there would be an announcement. If nothing else, it would probably be all over the Pix main site, and certainly it would cause a lot of noise here. True, forgetting about ZB3 is sad, but being that it IS February… it shouldn’t as easy to forget!
What’s sadder is they will probably forget to do Zmapper for Mac when it does come out anyway.
I hope this doesn’t happen this time… For someone who wants to export details to Maya for animation, Zbrush is useless without Zmapper and multi Displacement exporter…
I hate the fact that I’m having to quote myself here, I wish I were wrong…
Lets keep it positive -this is the eve.
of a great thing right? 2 weeks… 4 weeks…
whatever. It’s been a long while coming
now and afaic it’s totally worth all of it.
Buckie - still two weeks left no?
c’est rien
Buckie why do you insist on the March/April release when aurick says it’s going to be ready by the end of the month?
I certainly hope he is right.
Any news, Any news, Any news
Well…unfortunately, I can wait no longer. I am buying Modo 301. Before I get flamed let me just say “Zbrush is a great product” but my pipeline is based on OS X and I need to fill my sculpting workflow with something now (I tried holding off as long as I could). In business success is based on 1st to market and best in market. Zbrush is no doubt best in market…but version 3.1 for Mac this doesn’t exist. I know its coming but I’ve had great results with Modo 301 so it fits my needs. I’ll probably buy it when its version 4 but for now I have to buy something else. Cheers!
Being in the MAC side of the moon gives somehow an almost Budhist capability for waiting and waiting and waiting :(.
I´m with AVT that probably they will forget to do Zmapper for Mac when it does come out. They forgot it before.

Experience…
Well Buckie has been here in these forums for as long as I can remember and we have seen statements of intent that are without doubt of good intentions, but you must look clearly at what Aurick has stated. There is a grand old get-out clause of wether the team encounters problems that may delay the release.
I for one would hope that this pessimism is not correct and that our glorious download is on time as hoped.
Let’s all just join hands and chant positively
It wasn’t that ZMapper was forgotten about. It was that it proved impossible.
You have to understand that ZMapper is a plugin. As such, it talks to ZBrush through the ZScripting system. That system has a predefined set of commands that are available for use. If a plugin requires a ZScript command that does not exist, then there’s no way to make the plugin work until a new version of ZBrush can be released with that ZScript command built in.
ZMapper was released well after ZBrush 2 had come out for the PC and Mac. To put it another way, the command set was written before we knew that we’d be using it in this particular way. Ultimately, we found that the ZScript commands built into ZBrush 2 were not going to allow ZMapper to run on the Mac platform, and that no amount of modification to ZMapper was going to let us get around that roadblock. So no matter how hard our development team tried (and believe me, they put a LOT of time and effort into this), there was just no way to release ZMapper for the Mac.
I do know that the development team is well aware of the desire and need for ZMapper on the Mac. That means that they are looking for ways to give ZBrush 3 the necessary functionality. I have not been told what the outcome will be, either way. So while I’m hoping that it will be possible to release a Mac version of ZMapper, I can’t promise this. I’m simply assuring you that nobody has forgotten anything. We’re doing our best for you.
Aurick
I for one much prefer this stream of info you’re giving us on progress. I know it is unofficial but I’m much happier knowing the details of why I couldn’t get Zmapper to work, it was so frustrating because it looked so cool
Thanks for letting us know,
Sav
Yes, yes! Again thanks for the stream of communication, it does help. Still holding my breath with anticipation and hope for a Feb release. zbrush is the last application that is still tied to my old pc workstation and I can not WAIT to throw the thing in the trash.
Completely off topic but this sunday I was hard at work retopologizing a model when suddenly i was given the option to save my work and then zbrush just quit. Well it turns out that Vista had received an update and proceeded to install the update which needed a restart of my machine to complete which it did all no it’s own. I thought that I had turned off automatic updates but I swear they get turned back on somehow. I was so tempted to just throw the box across the room. I am sure there perfectly reasonable logic for just restarting a machine without any warning but it is beyond me. BLAH! windows. or in the words of my favorite beer commercial 'BOOO Crappy Microsoft, hooray Apple!"
sorry, needed to get that off my chest.
Wow. I never knew that Zmapper was not also on the Mac. I really hope that will not be the case for very long as its an integral part of zbrush to me. I also just bought Photoshop CS3 for the mac for doing exactly that. Looks like my move to the Mac could be more expensive than I thought and that seems to include funcionality as well.
Of course I dont fully understand the reasons that have been listed here. Zbrush 3 for mac has been written so i hope these missing commands are ummm already built in now to make sure this does not happen. Why did the mac version of Z2 not have all the commands built in if they had already been written for the pc side before hand?
I am assuming that what you actually meant was that there is no equivelant command on the mac development system which would mean that it is still unlikely that the Mac will have this plugin.
I hope I am wrong.
You sell Zbrush through Daz so why dont you ask them how they managed to link Daz Studio with Photoshop and have it update as soona s you repose a model. See if they will perhaps help. It works pretty well although still in beta.
Either way dont stop the stream as I am looking forward to getting stuck in. just bought a bunch of dvd’s to get back up to speed before had as well.
Cheers
Mike R
Thanks again for that answer. We waited a long time for this ZMapper-news. It’s better to get bad news then having the feeling to be ignored.
