Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

Man o Man!

I hope it does come out in the next few weeks. It’s been a long wait.
I know for some mac users that just dual booting is fine.

But I know things I shouldn’t know about MS and I can’t use windows. It makes me feel dirty.

Anyway… Just waiting to buy the mac version. I hope it runs smooth as silk.

Please make alot of fan fare when it goes out! Post it on cgchannel and cgtalk!

peace

ZBrush 2 for the Mac was released 6 months after the PC version. ZMapper was released a year after that. (A full year after Z2 for the Mac was released.) As I stated earlier, ZMapper was created well after ZBrush 2 had been created, and does some things that we weren’t expecting to be doing while Z2 was being developed.

Well this sounds promissing… zmapper is a great tool I was fortunate to beta test on the pc … so its good to know it dosent sound like on the mac side it is impossible to implement… just was not in the Zb 2 cycle.

I appologize Aurick. I guess I am a bit twitchy after moving over to the Mac and the costs incurred. No I am not refering to the costs of moving Zbrush over to the Mac. That I can live with. Maybe I need to up my meds again to calm me down.

Cheers for the reply.

crickets?

…and waiting? chirp - chirp

I was sooo angry for some time ago that i demanded a refund (and got it). Now I just couldnt stay out. I want to see the wonders of ZB3 on my mac, and soon.

Bring it on, BRING IT ON!

Its near.

They have just updated the system spec page on ZB.com

It now inludes:

ZBRUSH 3.1 - INTEL MAC
Recommended: OS: Mac OSX 10.4 or newer.
CPU: Intel
RAM: 1024MB (2048MB recommended for working with multi-million-polys)**
Monitor: 1024x768 monitor resolution set to Millions of Colors

ZBRUSH 2 - POWER PC Recommended: OS: Mac OSX 10.4 or newer. Macintosh users can use ZBrush 3.1 via PC emulation software such as "[Parallels](http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/)", or Apple's "[Bootcamp](http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/)". CPU: Power PC RAM: 1024MB (2048MB recommended for working with multi-million-polys and when using Parallels)** Monitor: 1024x768 monitor resolution set to Millions of Colors

man I cant wait!!!

Oh one more thing,

Im using a Macbook Pro 1st gen,

I was thinking about getting a faster computer, but Im not sure I want to spend $2000 + on a mac pro

What do you recommend for specs for using Maya and Zbrush on a PC.
My price limit for just a tower would be around $1100
And have any of you ever dabbled with a hankintosh pc? Whats your thoughts on going that route.

I must learn to read and think before I type.

Cheers

Hi,

Here is a bit of news I have: the next phase of beta testing for version 3 Mac will be starting shortly. If you are a registered ZBrush User running an Intel base Macintosh, an expert with ZBrush, and if you are interested in beta testing, please send an email to: [email protected]

Please remember that being a beta tester requires serious effort. It is not meant as a chance for a few people to get early access to ZBrush 3. Only apply if you can put earnest effort into identifying and reporting problems before the new version goes live. Note: Only a few beta tester seats are available; not all requests will be responded to.

I look forward to being able to share more information with you in the weeks to come!

That address failed for me. Bounced straight back.

Cheers

Mike R

Sorry. I had the wrong address there. It’s fixed now.

Sounds like we are weeks away at best based on Auricks last post. Boooo longer waiting…

I wonder if this means it’s not shipping in February.

I was hoping to be using it for a competition but if it takes time it takes time. Nothing can be done about it.

Cheers

“Oh No!” says the poor guy with the big bad PPC.

Email is bounced back.

I have just done a test, and there was no problem. If you continue to have difficulty, please forward the error message to [email protected].

Well… I have to say I really would be disappointed IF there ends up not being a PPC version but then again it would be that much more incentive to save up some money and get a shiny new Intel Mac.

Assuming our patience is eventually rewarded with a PPC version I am still pretty much expecting that ZB4 and later will be necessarily be Intel (or whatever processor Apple changes to in the future) only. The Pixologic crew can’t be expected to develop for the PPC forever.

I am heartened, however, by the 10.4 or newer part of the specs. Leopard had issues (like Photoshop and certain other programs crashing on me) and I went back to Tiger.

Anyway… enough of my rambling. Got to get back to work.

Well but the sound of it, it seems like we can expect an April release,

If Beta testing starts soon perhaps in a week or two they will need at least a couple of weeks if not more of serious testing to find any errors that may be. And then the final touch before release, so April or May.

We’ve waited this long, so how much will it hurt with just a month more or two. I’d rather they take the time needed to make it a killer app for the mac intel platform complete with 64-bit leopard support
and Zmapper.

Just for the record, all of this is offcourse just speculation, but don’t you guys think it’s safe to say April at the earliest?

Cheers!

I would have loved to beta test, but having run the software on paralles since the release of the PC version, with the promise of a imminent Mac release wont exactly make me an expert :stuck_out_tongue: since running it this way is just annoying.

I’ll wait like the rest of us. its damn hard though, and I just wanna get started creating all those wierd ideas I carry around.

/prays quick and efficient beta period.
