Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

You know, when you sit staring at your computer, not using Z3, checking this thread hourly for any news, hoping for a some miracle, anything, your mind starts to wander a bit. Then, your own thoughts begin to frighten you. Like, what if there is no development being done on Z3 for mac? What if Pixologic is just playing a waiting game. What if it’s all just some grand illusion created as a fiendish scheme to at first, distract mac users, confuse them, then, finally, frustrate the @#@# out of them so much, that they finally abandon the Mac and switch over to the dark side of the windows machine. Then, once all mac users have made that switch, abandoned their macs forever, Pixologic finally uses that moment to announce that; “ZBrush 3 for mac has finally been released. Go to the download page for ZBrush 8 for windows and find the little button cleverly hidden on the same page, and after filling out several long forms of complicated and personal questions, begin the painfully slow process of downloading your update.”
They finally delivered, as promised. Or did they? But, there is actually no Z3 for Mac.
Just some obscure button that no one will ever press because now all mac users have been turned into windows users. It took several years, but it worked. Yeah, I’ve got way to much time on my hands.

Derek - a few years ago, that wouldn’t have sounded too outlandish. These days, with how well Mac sales are doing, it would be crazy…

Derek, listen to me carefully, now…Put the mouse down and step away from the computer - very slowly. Don’t give in to the voices. LOL

do like we did.grab a modo demo, they have mac and pc update at same time!tried their demo for 2 months then bought it at a discount.i know this is a zbrush community but about a year and no zbrush3 for mac?pathetic.i feel like we wasted 400 zdollars

Mommy? Is that you?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

I agree with the comment:

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

It’s been eleven months since 3.0 was released on PC.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I’ll comment again next month.

Well 3 weeks and counting (page 24) since anyone from Pixologic has darkened the corridors of this thread and responded to our comments, frustrations and requests for some sort of communication.

Wait, I think I hear someone coming. Oh that was just my echo!

The silence continues . . . . . . . . . . .

sigh!

Paintguy, actually someone from pix responded a few days ago, called Support, needless to say they said nothing about the mac update, but even that is something.

Wow! I came to the “Mac News” forum just for a civil update (news!) to the obviously-close-to-release mac version (thanks for the update by the way, even if it was vague!) and at the same time, attracted the interest of a major ZB troll! +15 points for me! :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously, I think all this banter is pointless, there is nothing wrong with asking for information in nearly 95% of the general cases; especially justified given the time that has passed since v3.0 and the “coming soon for mac” info (please don’t feed the trolls!). Honestly, I think I’m just spoiled by the excellent company customer support given for another awesome Mac app called Unity (http://www.unity3d.com).

I for one, look forward to the day ZB 3.1 is native on the Mac, hopefully soon; then I think there will be no end to my sculpting and normal map creation!

Last thing, I understand those who support discussing using VMs in here, but why not just start another thread “Using ZB on Mac under VM”? With that, this thread can continue being about “Mac News”.

Stay frosty everyone!

The silence from Pixologic sure is overwhelming.

Too bad I gave away my powerbook already.
Try this:

It might take a bit of digging and skill to get Z3 to run, but it should. Good luck. Move on to an intel mac like the rest of us.

Btw, how many companies out there give away free revolutionary upgrades? How many of you paid upgrade fees every year for maya or 3DS upgrades? How can you (not specifically, you, but you ungrateful whiners) be so ungrateful to pixologic at least on this manner alone? Yeah, so you paid 500 smackeroos to pixo, and you got a license key for a Z2 (or Z3) to show for it. If you can’t (or won’t) run it, why did you even paid for it? They’re practically giving away free upgrades for LIFE!!
I think most people who whines about the impending release of a mac version is just looking for an excuse to get mad at a scapegoat. And besides yourself, the only other party is the hand that feeds you.

I don’t see the purpose of this thread anymore. It has degenerated into a whining pit, and we certainly don’t need any more updates about when Z3.x for mac is expected to be done as it’s clearly practically done after some incubation in beta testing. Please let some of them whiners reply to this post then someone PLEASE lock this (and similar) thread. Too bad aurick’s kind intention has been twisted into pixologic bashing.

You know, it’s not like the mac customers are asking for special treatment.
Quite the contrary. They just want what has already been given to other customers. Please, stop insisting we are looking for a handout. That is grossly incorrect. Anyone entitled to this upgrade, paid some money initially, or they would not be getting anything.
True, there are companies that don’t offer free upgrades, but there are others that do besides Pixologic: Newtek and Luxology, to name two, have offered free significant upgrades, as well.
I don’t think anyone here really wants to bash Pixologic, in fact, the frustration comes from the feeling that Pixologic, a company they care about, appears to have lost interest in them. Mac users are angry because they feel they are entitled to the same customer service that the windows’ customers have gotten, but feel they aren’t getting it, partially, because they’ve had to wait so much longer than the window users, and because there seems to be little communication on the part of Pixologic.
Mac ZBrushers are frustrated looking at all the great art being created here by others, and they want to be able to get their hands on a great piece of software, and be able to do the same.
I don’t know why it’s taking Pixologic so much time; they aren’t saying much about it. They may be killing themselves, staying up late on weekends, going without rest for hours at a time trying to get this upgrade completed.
It must be a very difficult task for them, and I appreciate any efforts being made in this endeavor, really.
If that is the case, they should let it be known. They would totally have the mac communities sympathy. It would go a long way in calming down the situation. The problem is, by their being so silent, they give the impression to many, that they don’t value the mac customers. It may not be true at all, but only they can say, and so far, for some reason, they choose not to address it.

You really should consider lightening up man. Someone asks a friendly question like “any news?” and you go off on them about whining.

Here’s a thought, instead of fanning the fire, and then pointing fingers when someone naturally responds “i’m getting burned!”, how about you contribute something positive? Else, keep it shut will you?

This thread is called: “Mac News”, is that clear enough?

This is my last response to this sort of twaddle. Please no one else respond to Feureau or his kind (i.e. Mac thread trolls!); they just want you to complain.

Don’t feed the trolls and they won’t survive!

Glad I didn’t post anything here for last year

I am posting now to hopefully get an update from pixologic, and something that’s not vague. We’ve all been waiting patiently for about a year for a port now, and this is isn’t whining. It’s a reasonable question to people who spend hard cash for something we use for WORK. This delay is hindering my business and I think it’s only fair after all this time to give mac users a set release date. I’ve had to outsource all my sculpting work because of this inordinately long delay in a version update to an app that was already cross-platform in it’s previous version. Regardless of whatever quirks are involved in programming there is no excuse I would accept after this long.

And before some wise ass starts babbling about how it can run on intel, I can’t afford to buy a comparable system to my$15k+ G5. Telling users to go spend thousands to run an alternate OS so they can use their app that costs a few hundred is just asinine. I can appreciate the gesture, but not for a year. If they did this with an app like Maya or Photoshop and waited over a year to bring out a PC version, the PC posse would probably picket the headquarters of Adobe and Autodesk

So Pixologic staff, or whatever sorry, leprous soul they have chained in a closet who deals with us Mac users, please climb out from behind your sony vaio and give me a small personal break, and at least set a real release date like you do for your PC users.

it’s always the same,
I’m having a nervous breakdown,
Drive me insane!

Just a further note on all of us “whiners” complaining when we’re getting a FREE upgrade:

Pixologic has a historical issue with “feature creep”, the inability to lock the product down and ship it. They got themselves into this pickle years ago, when they offered a free upgrade to v2.5 for all purchasers of ZB2. As we now know, they were unable to lock the product down at a reasonable point to call it v2.5, and the shipping date slipped, and slipped, and slipped. When they finally locked the product down, it was called ZBrush 3, but since they offered all those free upgrades, they couldn’t charge all the existing customers for it. If they had locked the product down at some point about 12-18 months before ZB3 shipped, and called it ZB2.5, everybody would have gotten their “free” upgrades by now, and the situation would be very different.

It’s great, in theory, to be generous with your customers, but Pixologic has allowed this tendency toward “feature creep” to put them in a position where it seems, from the users’ perspective, like they don’t have the necessary resources to finish products in a timely fashion for at least some of their customers. If they had locked the product down and shipped a v2.5, they would have been completely within their rights to charge an upgrade fee for v3, and use that income to fund more staff and resources. They could even have said,“We’re going to concentrate on getting the Windows version out the door first, then start on the Mac once the code base is stable.” But, they weren’t able to do that, so they now have an army of customers who they promised a free upgrade to, some of whom have had the upgrade in question for almost a year, and others who have not yet received it, and to whom Pixologic seems unable to provide even a vague idea of a ship date.

Before any Windows users come in and claim that the complainers are all Mac users, please think back to the days when you were waiting, for months, then well over a year beyond the original ship date, for the mythical ZB2.5 (was it eventually over 2 years? I can’t remember any more). There were plenty of people who thought, at the time, that a new version would never ship, and if you think Mac users are frustrated now, you obviously weren’t around when everybody was waiting for v2.5.

It’s great for my pocketbook that Pixologic is so generous with the free upgrades, but I still can’t help but feel that they are still struggling to get the business running smoothly, at least in part because the various delays in shipping a product have left them with fewer resources than they would otherwise have.

I wasn’t a part of the 2.5 schpeal - that’s actually really interesting.
So what we should take away from that is, we all want them to
communicate with us, but it doesn’t really matter what they’d say
even if they said something because it would be wrong anyway.

Lesser of two evils I guess- either give out erroneous dates or
say nothing. Here I was thinking it was bad pr, only to find
out it’s worse, bad management…

Sounds like zBrush may wind up being Windows only and not
necessarily by Pixologics choice (insert competition).

That’s too bad :frowning: I think is the most depressing thread on any
board ever.

I can’t stand how those PC/Windows users are being all productive with that Microsoft operating system of theirs. They should all convert to Mac OS and really get some work done, those jerks.

I wish I had ZBrush on a Mac because then I would show the world that I can be a much better artist and a Mac user. As soon as Apple comes out with a Tablet Mac, I am going to show everyone that I am super productive because I can then use ZBrush on a Mac tablet.

I love Mac.
