Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

I originally had a PC licence which I switched over to Mac for the 50% fee mentioned…

I now have 2 licences for ZB, one Mac & one PC, so the 50% is for a second licence, not a fee for doing the exchange…

This isn’t ideal though as I don’t have a PC & I will not re-installed Parallels or Bootcamp on my Mac since installing Leopard, so I have 2 licences & still no ZB to use… :stuck_out_tongue:

I am still guessing a Mac version will be with us by May at the earliest…

That’s what I figured. However, seeing as you have officially bought a second license (the discount being irrelevant), surely you are allowed to then sell your old license on to somebody else. If only to recoup the additional costs of the “transfer”.

What’s the deal here Aurick? Care to shed some light on this please?

I’m not sure about selling the former platform license, when you purchase a platform transfer. However, if you purchased a Mac license in the period before the release of 3.1, you get a Windows license to use for free until the release of the Mac license, a which time you can choose to keep the Windows license, or return to the Mac. Aurick’s former posts in this thread explain this further.

While I too wish the licensing were user-centric, instead of platform centric, it’s good that someone is giving us a bone. I’ll be getting a Mac Pro soon, and just the thought of working with ZBrush on that makes me drool!

I hear what you are saying LD, but I’d guess that is the only circumstance you can’t sell your PC licence…

But some clarification would be nice as I’m using neither licence ATM…

That is what I thought from communications from Pixologic but from Aurick’s post

It looks like to get the Mac version when/if it is released it will cost me half the price of the software, if I had known this I would not have taken the offer. I have had too many problems to keep using this package and as I don’t see me changing my computer I would have preferred a Mac product. I may just drop the product.

Licensing systems, rules, etc. are not the subject of this thread. Please address such comments or questions to [email protected].

This thread is for the subject of a timeframe for the release of ZBrush 3.x on the Mac. As some users have stated, they have subscribed to this thread specifically so that they can stay readily informed if/when I’m able to say more than I already have. Please do not do them a disservice by taking this thread off topic.

Thanks.

You were perfectly happy to answer licensing questions earlier on in this thread Aurick. Now when thougher questions get asked it’s suddenly considered off topic?

Hi, Everyone!
I’m glad to hear there is a mac zbrush 3 update coming.

On Dec 26th I purchased a new iMac G5 ( still in the box )
and was wondering if zbrush 3 would run under the windows side?
I saw a crossover software allowing you to run windows on the new iMacs.
Just wondered what I should do to get zbrush 3 up and running?
Any help will be appreciated.

Mark

Maybe the reason he can’t go further is that what your situation is would fall under case-by-case decisions? Just a thought, as I imagine how frustrated you are. Email them, and see if they can help you out.

Sorry, but only the Intel Macs work with Windows via Boot Camp or Fusion/Parallels.

My new MacPro is waiting to work with ZB3. I hope it works well with Leopard.

I can’t wait either.

For anyone that is curious, I have vmware fusion and the wacom pen tablet drivers aren’t working with this virtual machine software. Well, the pen works but sensitivity doesn’t. For instance Corel painter, while using the aribrush, won’t spray sideways as you tilt the pen. Pressure changes don’t seem to make a difference either.

So, using bootcamp is the way to go if you want to run zbrush with a mac, if you want full pen sensitivity. That is until the mac zbrush version comes out.

*after posting this I did a search and found this
http://www.lovecraftforest.com/blog/2007/07/06/using-zbrush3-in-vmware-fusion/

I am reading up about how to work it out now

I’m using the windows version on a MAC MINI through parallels…

this is the lowest, weakest mac made, with one of the worst graphics cards, running through a quasi-emulator…

and STILL it can handle millions of polygons!

I am constantly amazed simply at the basic engineering involved to make such an efficient program!

I can’t imagine what this app must be like running natively on a Mac Pro 8 core (or whatever might come out at Macworld!!!)!!!

But the bottom line is i’ll be deep into Smash Bros. Brawl and maybe even Mario Kart in february! :stuck_out_tongue:

The key step to enable the wacom tablet as a pressure sensitive device is to add this line to the Virtual machine’s VMX file:

usb.generic.allowHID = TRUE

This allows the Windows Wacom drive to connect directly to the tablet versus VMware trying to handle it for you as a generic mouse. The “virtual machine” file on your hard drive is really a package and by right-clicking on it to “show package contents” will reveal the .vmx file inside. (The detail steps are in my blog where I walk you through a step-by-step install for ZB3.1 on VMware Fusion.)

You will likely run into problems with Zmapper–it uses OpenGL tokens that are not support by VMware’s emulator. Here’s hoping that the Mac native version of ZB 3.x shows up soon.

Cheers!

Seriously, when will an official statement about this be announced?

I’ve really forced myself to run 3.1 for quite some time now but finally given up on it. Boot Camp is just too much hassle (having to reboot the computer all the time) and VMWare/Parallels (buggy, no Zmapper, proper Wacom-support) obviously doesn’t work.

It is soon february and it looks very likely that we’ll have to shoot aurick. :stuck_out_tongue:

SpeedAbuser, don’t shoot Aurick. He is the only one giving us hope with this unofficial announcement.

From what info I’ve been given, February is still looking promising. If it is able to be released next month, I wouldn’t expect it until toward the very end of the month.

An official date can’t be given yet because it’s still possible for a problem to arise that would force a delay.

Thanks aurick. This is really exciting, though not firm, news to hear. I just got a Mac Pro, and I only have 32-bit Windows, so I can only see 2 of my 5GB Ram (BIOS issue from Apple). While it’s fast, I can’t wait to work completely in OS X.

I don’t know if you can answer this, but will ZApplink be ready also when ZB itself is Mac ready?

Looking forward to it. I bit the bullet and transferred to Mac native. Zbrush 2 works nice but after using 3 on my old pc I miss it.

Cheers

I have to completely switch to the Pc which involves crawling under the desk, switching mouse/keyboard/tablet to the pc, moving files over via a memory stick and then actually working on my PC which i have really come to hate. blaaaaaaaah!

the end of February can’t come soon enough

At one point it seemed as though the mac version would never arrive. Now we are ever more closer to it’s actual release. Bring it on! :stuck_out_tongue:
