Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

Well, I think it is getting close too, atleast I really hope.

They really should update us, it is ridiculous that this entire thread is “unofficial” news.
Come on Pixologic!

While I have been negative in my other posts concerning this matter. Is it possible that the 3.1 Mac version may indeed be something more, … a 3.5 leap to the next level that then Win must caugh up to.

If they were just going to caught up to current win release there would not be a need for such silence, and you would most likely see beta tester images.

You might even see a dual win/mac 3.5 release with such a long delay.

just a consideration…

Don, you might be right! Fingers crossed.

I’m not going to speculate, but I think at this late hour we all need to prepare ourselves by having a fresh pair of underwear standing by.

…and for all of us vikings, a fresh pair of thunderwear :stuck_out_tongue:

it’s soon 1 april… time for a joke…

that’s my birthday - don’t play with my emotions!

It should be a joke when you’re not Super…
But all jokes together, I like to have an official date of a Mac-release. No more waiting-jokes. I should like to pay those hard working Pixologic-crew or send them a hamburger, just to let them know they have to work like hell to get the job done. Time of waiting is more long as normal time.
Dang, We just changed the time, now we have summertime. I lost one hour…
I do not care that hour, Pixologic lost a year :td: :td: :td: :td: :td:

its obvious based on the lack of information for mac, what the problem is…

there is only one programmer at pixologic working on the new mac release and he’s typing furiously.

haha.

but seriously, waiting sucks.

Talking about great applications…I think Houdini 9 will be with us before zbrush

April in 2 days & still no ZB3…

The surprise that Aurick mentioned is interesting, but there is no way we’ll get something the Windoze version won’t have, imagine the moaning then…

I’ll guess the surprise is ZB caps for all Mac users, but they won’t be released until 2009…

I’d be perfectly happy with no surprises and everything
just working correctly i.e. zMapper

however- as opposed to a big version jump, the surprise
might be in regards to system resource utilization
i.e. increased memory addressing or some kind of 64bit
threading to make use of the Xeons - that would be
a GREAT surprise.

At this point one can only be cautiously optimistic :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m just glad a Mac version is coming out at all. I had my doubts there for a while. This is great news. Looking forward to the release!

superglitcher:
‘everything working correctly, ie zmapper.’

Now I have no idea whats coming out, but if you read this entire thread I think Aurick spoke about zmapper and the mac. How and why it was not released with zbrush 2/mac.
So, everything working correctly may very well not include zmapper.

Though I am hopeful as well,
Brandon

Yeah I read that post. I get it - two years or so
after the fact, a new OS, new processors, new version -
I’m hopeful that there’s enough separation there
to allow for a functional zMapper.

… cautiously optimistic!

While we are here tapping our fingers, I wonder if it was specific OS or processor functions that zMapper uses that resulted in the failure to launch on the Mac side the last time around.

I always assumed the lack of zmapper was based around macs lack of support for direct x… I assume to make a proper working one you’d need to base it round open GL?

I asked about this one. Aurick did post and informative reply. It may be this thread.

Something about Zmapper coming about after the ZB2 realease, and there not being any code in the Mac version to support Zmapper.

I tried getting Zmapper to work on the Mac with Windows. Still no luck even after I installed DirectX into Parrallels. Anyone have Zmapper fully functioning in an Windows MacTel emulator?

I’ve seen it working via. Parallels on a MacBook Pro

zmapper in zbrush 3.1 works fine in windows through bootcamp on an intel mac with a graphis card supporting opengl
