Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

ba dum dum … chhh

If it were up to me, I would have ask JOBS for 5-10mil to make ZBRUSH for OS X first then put it on hold for the windows user for one year. Mac hardware would be flying out the door and by the time it came out for windows it would be nice and stable.

peace.

Or you can replace JOBS with BILL and look at it from that angle to.

I am a teacher at a college with a lab full of MAC Pros. I have zbrush 2 installed on all the machines and of course the emulation is so much of an issue, it would be too cumbersome to teach my students the software. I keep pushing back the zBrush part of the cirriculum…unfortunately. I hope the release happens before the semester is finished because I know that my students will really enjoy learning the software. I will not put windows on a MAC either.

I have some students that are taking scupture classes at the same time and it would be fantastic to have them sculpting in digital and in analog.

As for the wait… I know the Pixologic guys are doing the best they can. It is my perception that they are taking pride in their work. That is the most important thing. The release may not be perfect and it may have bugs still, but we are all human. I am impatient and restless for the release, but it is simply beyond our control. All i wish is for a functioning version of Zmapper for Mac.

I’d love to see Apple buy Pixologic and set the standards for future releases ZBrush for Win or OSX. Apple has made itself the software leader in video editing (Final Cut Pro), audio (Logic). Why not add digital sculpture and 2.5 illustration to its list of great products? Keep the same development team. Just, fund and staff to meet the requirements for future realeases. Apple has plenty of cash.

I doubt that we’d ever see the current PR and communication issues over the 3.0 mac release if Jobs was calling the shots. Z 3.0 for OSX would have been released last May with Jobs at the helm.

Well one thing is for sure, if that were the case none of us would be finger tapping over a late release (sorry I guess it can’t be late if a release date was never announced), we just wouldn’t know about it until it came out.

It’s an interesting scenario - it might mean some great cash for development, hard to say how the model would play out though. Apple has typically never supported Windows versions of it’s Pro software, so it seems like that may only create a worse situation for people on the other side of the fence.

Interesting to think about anyway, but controversial to no end!

I’m not sure about that. Remember that some of us still waiting Apple for ages to release that much anticipated successor to Shake.

I think the main problem is this thread moving through the phase of its coming. Then we were kept informed and told its coming possibly towards the end of February. When that date came we got we need beta testers and that was that.

If only they would keep at least offering possible release dates all along and once again just keeping us informed of progress then I am sure most of the griping would be done away with.

Hopefully for future Zbrush offerings they can work out a better option than going silent when things don’t quite go to plan. I can at least understand that as my plans seldom go smoothly.

Cheers

Mike R

And yet still Pixologic stay quiet! They obviously have people looking at this thread to see public oppinion (they should at least). And can see that people are generally happy to wait, as long as we are informed of approximately how long. That’s the only thing people are getting frustrated about…

The *“We don’t know because something might crop up” argument doesn’t fly with me. That just means you aren’t putting enough resources into it, or can’t project manage efficiently… They should KNOW 99% a very last date that it would be released!

Come on Pixo! It’s time to give us a date!

I vote for March 27th.

Dude… you forgot to specify the year!

Yes. And the fact that they expect us to stay loyal customers down the road is dissolving. I enjoy the program but I am dissatisfied with the support, (or lack there of.)

The next Mudbox release could go Universal. Heck, it might even come out before the ZB3 MAC release.

You know what? … This late in the game, they should just release ZB4 on both platforms in the summer and be done with it. Show us that we’re not considered second rate customers!

Dude… you forgot to specify the year!

Oh my!.. too funny!
On second thought… actually not funny at all

Looking back, a reply from me about the poll was deleted by the administator. It was about the paying users and the number of Windows-users. I can show one of the links for a free download of ZB3.1 to show I am right. ButI will not do it because I need this exelent software. I hope there will be some respect soon.

I hope so but unlikely IMO, I don’t think Autodesk have ever released a new Mac version. Continued to support cross platform apps but not converted as far as I am aware.

It’s possible that Modo would be an alternative some point down the road, I don’t think it will ever match up to ZB for super high res sculpting but it may be good enough for most people.

Just a short note to all the whining Mac users etc.
The solution at least temporarily is simply buy yourself a cheap but powerful ie lots of ram and a good cpu Intel or AMD based PC and off you go with the creation process.

Hey you might really like the change too!

F’ off Kasperie, we r not whining, how would u like it if u payed several hundred for a product and then not be able to use it, with the release being pushed further n further back with the creators of it not giving us any info. How are you supposed to buy a “cheap” pc with lots of ram and a good processor dumbass thats wot bangs the price up!!!

thanks for the troll kasperle, move along now.

I am so sorry that I offended the mac religion but niether am I a troll not is it a very expensive thing to purchase a PC with lets say 2 gig ram, a fast but not top of the line duo or quad cpu and a hdd etc. We can pick them up in Europe for around 600 to 800 US including a PC express midrange card.
Build it yourself too.
I thought that the idea is to get work ie artwork done and one always has expenses etc with ones work. By the time the MAC version is out you could have earned ten times that by finished commissions etc. So what is your beef pal.
I was trying to help albeit with a little sarcasm. Can’t handle it? Ok then join the democratic party - they have similar problems.
As for the woman on fire - take a shower.

What do you mean, like the Mac Sheep of the family?

I wonder how long a beta test takes for ZB. I can’t remember how long the Windows cycle was. Seems as if it was relatively short, but I could be wrong. I guess we didn’t see how long it was done BEFORE the testers started posting their images. It’s coming soon—I can feel it! I have it on the Windows side, but I can’t use ZApplink dammit. My Photoshop is Mac only!
