Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

Thank you Aurick but I think we have a right to ask a few questions after all I along with a lot of other mac users have paid good money for this software which is yet to deliver. I’ve never thought it was fair for you Aurick to have to take the brunt of our criticism, but I guess that’s your job. My advice to Pixologic is to NEVER release the Windows and Mac versions separately again. It just isn’t good PR and it doesn’t give users like myself a good impression of the company. If another company like Autodesks Mudbox released a mac version in the last 6 months I probably would have never looked back at ZBrush.
I’m really disappointed in the way Pixologic has handled this whole thing and I just hope they learn from this and start listening to us mac customers and giving mac users equal treatment.

Thats probably a pretty unrealistic request…, and im sure Aurick would tell you that you bought Zb2, your just gonna get zb3 for free. Until Pixologic is able to streamline porting its windows code to mac there will always be several months of delay. I’m a mac user, but I also realise that probably 80% of zbrush licenses are to windows machines. They will always release the WIN copy first to start recouping there development costs, thats just business. I would love to be running a native OSX version of zbrush 3 but being realistic, and sitting through the wait for zb2 to come to the mac I’ve been running it through parallels for nearly a year now.

One saving grace is that development has usually not frozen… when Zb2 came out for mac it had better perspective than the win version that was 6 months older. I’m hoping Aurick is alluding to somthing similar they have been able to roll into the mac build that is not currently in zb 3.1. Im personally hoping it could be 64 bit capable but that could be a pipe dream since apple cut carbon 64.

Yeah, I’m excited for the Mac version, but busy enough not to dwell too much on it. Keep up the good work!

I spent many of my early years waiting for English
ports of Japanese video games, so I’m entirely
use to someone else having what I want, and
having to wait - and in many cases never getting it.
In this case, the thing I want the most IS being
ported to my system of choice, so I’m ecstatic.

I know a lot of other people are down and out
about the situation, but being a mac user since
the beginning of mac - I am very acclimated to
the software situation. Apple has for many,
many years lacked the software footprint of
windows. This is due primarily to market share.
If you choose Apple you take the good with the
bad, and this is simply the nature of the beast.
No good is going to come from beating up a
vendor that’s already committed to your platform.
Until Apple’s market share is 10 fold what it is
today, all you’re likely to do is make them think
twice when they’re in the boardroom at the v4
development crossroads. In the end, while OS X
is gaining ground, you still use a fringe OS that
represents a minority market share (reality).

You want the development cycle to speed up for
OS X? Really? Then get out there and spread the
word about your OS, get people using it, get
people buying Mac zB licenses… make up some of
the ground, get in front. That’s progressive.

Albeit, mad people can’t reason- so if you’re
super pissed this probably wont penetrate your
psyche anyway.

Have a beer and watch monty python or something.

In a few days this will all be over.

peace!

I just peed myself. Too excited.

ahhhhh, this is awesome news. the words beta testing are music to my ears. i have been sitting with my unopened zbrush 2 box just waiting for version 3 to drop (sorry but i refuse to install windows on my computer) i can’t wait!

Thanks aurick!

I’m sure when v3 mac finally hits the shelves the mac community will be seriously silenced… and probably apologizing for ever doubting pixologic

Apologizing?
I don’t think so!

With all due respect, this is not a case of a whiney fanboy anticipating an upcoming release, and complaining because my toys are late. I paid good money A YEAR AGO, and I’ve yet to get the full experience of the software.
The mactel issue is a special case, yes - it took adobe what, 2 years to deliver photoshop. And zbrush no doubt has issues that make emulation more problematic that most other software. But clearly, it would have been better to just tell the truth - Intel Macs are NOT supported yet. Period. If I was a shareholder of pixologic, I might think otherwise: “no need to forgo all that revenue from Mac users, it’s kinda workable in emulation, and when we do finally release the Intel version, all will be forgiven”. Maybe so. But I’m just a lowly customer, and it’s hard not to be annoyed with this state of affairs, the more so because I can see what the software can do in it’s full glory. But I know (as does Pixologic) that when the love finally comes, I won’t care or remember the annoyance.

oh, i think we’ll all remember the annoyance.

Burning woman is right!!

You may be right about the percentage of Windows users to mac users, but I suspect the mac users may be a little higher than 20% though. It would be fun to do a poll on ZBrush central and see how many people are Mac users vs PC users. Is it possible to create a poll on the forum here?

I guess now we’ll know the true amount of Mac vs Windows users!

Also do a poll how many Window-users are working with a crack

10 months are truly too many!!!

I think we’ll be suprised at the amount of mac users using Zbrush or wanting to use ZB on the mac.

I think the only people that this information
matters too already know precisely what the
metrics are.

Time might be better spent requesting zBrush
in the Apple Store.

back to work…

I think this is a great poll and the results so far are surprising. I 'll wait and see where it’s going…

Now I think that pixologic should indicate the release date of the program for mac.
It is a matter of respect for users of the program.

Catch 22, you have to have a product to place in the Apple store.

John

looking forward to the eventual release of zbrush 3 but it really is frustrating when there are potentially such brilliant bits of software that you cant use simply because you are using apple macs. I recently looked at buying a phantom omni, a pen that allows you to feel the object as you sculpt, unfortunately the software is windows only. Anyway cant wait to see zbrush3 finally released for the mac.
