Mac News (Unofficial) (update on page 15)

I’ve been using my MacBook Pro for Zbrush 3.1 and it works really smooth, and fast even through a Windows boot.

Right now I only have 2 gigs ram, soon to be 4 gigs. Everything else works great. Maya for OSX runs really fast too. So yes OSX runs awesome for other 3D apps as well, but keep in mind I have one of those fancy brand new MacBooks, not the older Motorola chip.

Also if you want to spend $$$ you can get a top end Quadro FX card put in your Mac Pro desktop through Apple. Also dual quad core chips = really fast. But seriously, unless you are made of money, Mac is overpriced. I’m lucky, because my GF is the MacBook product manager and she has about 10, I just counted, lying around the house. as I type this on a MacBook Air.

Who told you to give them $ before the product is released. There is no reason for pre-ordering with digital downloads. It sounds like you’re using the software, maybe 2.0. It does the job and you’ll appreciate 3.1 more when it’s released. How does Z3 not work as advertised? I think it has more functions than originally advertised.

I sense Z3 for Mac really soon. Usually unofficial announcements get people a little antsy. If Pixologic released it without this buildup it would be a different story of praise and relief.

Time to hear something usefull from Pixologic. Please stop the blabla about powerbooks, ram or other interesting things. Use a PM for it.
We all know we can run windows, but we do not want to. We all believe the promises we’ve got from the holy Pixologic, so we have to wait and hope we do not believe in the wrong religion. Amen.

Amen!

if u dont want to spend a lot of mny on a mac … but want to use the os x
u can always build one out of a intel pc =) …

I agree, a Macbook pro makes a pretty good 3d machine, but the ordinary Macbook that I was talking about isn’t ideal for most 3d because of it’s poor graphics chip. As I said though it should still work well with ZB because ZB doesn’t use the graphics chip.

Just want to add my weight to this topic. I bought the PC 3.0 to Mac 3.0 future sidegrade deal sometime last year, no longer remember exactly when, and have been waiting for Mac 3.0 like everyone else. My frustration is tempered by knowing that beta testing is very important, and I would rather wait for a solid release than be stuck with a too early release that isn’t ready for prime time. And so, we wait…

A few have mentioned Modo 301. I’m a Modo 2.x licensee, and although I was impressed by Modo’s abilities, I found it too complex. So, after working with it for many months and finding myself perpetually confused, I decided not to upgrade to 301, especially when I saw the upgrade price. Conversely, ZBrush 3 for PC on my Intel Mac has been enough to assure me that this is the way to go. It does the things for me in organic modeling that I had hoped Modo would do, with ease and without confusing the heck out of me. Not all of us are rocket scientists!

And so I wait… Question: will there be an email announcement? I’d rather not have to go to the Pixologic website every day to see if there’s any news. It gets very frustrating.

I asked for clarification of my lic… and received the following reply:

"Hi Don,

Thank you for your interest in ZBrush!

We haven’t set an official release date for ZBrush 3 for Mac, yet.

According to the most recent information I have, we are hoping to have it ready before the end of February, however, it may be pushed back to March if more development is required. I suggest you keep an eye on our website, as it will certainly be announced as soon as we have a concrete release date.

Sincerely,

Pixologic ZBrush Support"

Thank you for your interest in ZBrush!.
I would think so as a lic holder for several years!.. anyway…
very boilerplate and didn’t answer my question…making sure that their cross over to win was not going to be forgotten for the cross over back to Mac. At one time I had an email stating that this was all free in an effort to support Mac lic until the real program could be supplied.

PS sorry to hear you didn’t like Modo. Certainly a lot to it with more to come…3.2 coming out anyday now.

I have been following this thread since the start and have (until now) refrained from posting. Now the topic here is not how good of a program zBrush is, but how Pixologic are handling the whole thing!

They’re just making peole frustrated now with their silence on the matter. Ok they send out emails saying it’s being worked on, but there is no official news about it. Look at Rhino3D, they have an entire site dedicated to their development of the mac version!

All I want Pixologic (and I’m sure a lot of other people also) is some respect! Make an announcment soon! Even if it’s for MAY! Just tell us something!

One peeee’d off zBrusher…

Because it’s a free release and full of new incredible features this justify the wait for me. I’ve bought years ago Solidthinking and even is a really good software they want money for every string of new code. The result: no more Solidthinking! I think Pixologic is great, also in his silence, i have the same good words for Newtek and Nextlimit. This is true respect for users.

i’d rather hear something bad…than nothing at all. Even the clarification that DON got above would be nice to hear from a Moderator and you think they would considering the hundreds of emails they will get just trying to get the same response…duh.

Hey- anyone beta testing on OS X yet?
If you’re not buried under nda I’d be really interested
to know how it’s working / comparisons to Win /
how long have you been testing etc?

Yeah that would be a good idea. Whoever posts doesn’t have to give details. Just general info on the progress of testing.

Please do not ask testers to break the NDA. Beta testers are not allowed to even identify themselves as being beta testers, much less talk about their experiences with the beta.

Thanks.

Aurick could you then give us a few pointers on how everything is going?
Is everything moving along nicely, how far in to the progress are we etc?

I kind of figured there was NDA, that’s why I prefaced
the question with an NDA exclusion… not asking for
a breach in security - just looking for light. Kind of
hard to know what’s covered in the NDA when I don’t
have a copy of it you know?

That is interesting about the secure identity thing, how
does the ‘zBrush 3 Beta Tester Images’ thread work then?
That was the first place I looked actually - figured
since the Win guys were posting stuff during beta
that maybe the Mac guys would too.

Just curious…

At least we know their out there
That’s a positive.

Yeah, that’s the problem - too much transparency! Shut down those pesky leakers, who might actually give some useful information to your customers!
Grrr…

Pixologic has certainly got the Apple attitude down: “shut up and be grateful that we allow you to buy our stuff”. Let’s hope they can deliver the software as well as the attitude.

Please try not to ask me too many questions, all I can say is: progress is going very well and we hope to surprise you as well

That’s enough for me
Thank you.

ahh… ok now. periodic thermal venting, is all.
