wow mohack nice skull.

I like how you took the time to flaten the major bones.

Well I have not released a video in awhile because ya Zbrush is like crack basicaly and I have been modeling like a mad man for the past few weeks. But i did come up with somthing intresting I wanted to share in a brand new shiny lesson 20. ewwwww ahhhhhhh

I want to thank all the new members at the house, it is because of your memberships that help me through insane times as I battle servers and uploads and rendering.
My poor artist side does however like to give away free stuff, so never feel that because i do give free stuff to non members I dont apreciate my house members. It’s only because I know how tuff this program is to learn;)
(Wipes Eyes)

Ok enough with the teacher speach IN the video I cover the following

Alpha shapes

Layers!!! which are freeken amazing!!!

Projection master
and a plugin by marcus called imageplane 3 I use it for probally not the right reason for which it was made, but ya you should really download it and check it out.
And a speedy way to model stuff;)

Ok so I have been experimenting with differnt ideas on how to quickly make a series of monsters very quickly, all these heads were made at once. Yep at once.
That means in about 30 mins I made about 12 ish heads (some are not shown) More to come later when I show the video;)

I call this Devil taking poo

I 'bout fell outa my chair laughing at that title you gave it.
Appropriately fits his expressions!!

Check yer PM… I had a question about your tutorials and the subscription process…

Keep-em coming, man!

lol thanks nate

I like those elf things on your site. They are far less creepy then the traditional serial killing yard gnome things thats for sure. Great illustrations too. Wow you really need to get into zbrush full force cause it looks like you have a intresting style that most Zbrush artists don’t have. I see not one zombie or alien in your collection;)

welp heres the video on the devil head guy

I put all my links in my sig its on the house and on veoh
veoh is still in the "Processing Video " stage doh pink! um grrrrrrr

Hey, thanks mush!

When I wuz in high school (before dirt was made) I drew all sort of monsters and gutz and stuff… did lots of t-shirts for other kids and even painted a dragon on the dash of a vintage '31 chevy. I kinda moved on to other things since.

I’m working on learning Zbrush… so I’m planning to do stuff with it before long hopefully. :red_circle: :small_orange_diamond: :large_orange_diamond: :small_orange_diamond: :small_blue_diamond: :sunglasses: go, dude… lights turniing green… life in the fast lane

Jason,

Whee, thanks for the head slap! How long has ZB3 been out? I still hadn’t tried out layers till I watched your vid 2O. I’m working on a new character now and using layers as a non-destructive place to play with some ideas before committing to some serious detail sculpting. I see now just how powerful they are because even after the detail I can still fool around with expression. If I were doing this any other way, whether drawing or making physical models it would take forever…

I’m open for any more abusive enlightenment you want to throw our way, and I seriously hope the effort your putting into this stuff is paying you some well deserved dividends!:+1:

Hey, Jason,

Layers tutorials rock. After you have created all these different versions with the layers, how could you export each one as a separate .obj? So that you could get them into Maya for facial morph targets. Also, where would reTopology fit into this? I guess you would reTopo first, before layer sculpting. But it seems that things like the snake-hook fx would still need additional reTopo.

Thanks!

~S.~

Retopo probally comes after you make the guy as a straight character with horns and blank expression. Then after you retopo you can make an expression layered face that has serveral layers of eye winks and gins that you can blend between. Export your like level 3 each time to maya and do some blend shapes on the maya character based on the Zbrush exports. Just remeber in maya to turn on world space under blend shapes or your blend will not be a pretty sight within maya. It will look like the exploding meshes we see in Zbrush if we change the point order.

Hey Jason! I couldn’t find your email adress so I thougth I’d post here instead. Thanks for all the tutorials man, they’re amazingly helpful. This is the first time I’ve properly had a go at a 3D program, but Zbrush makes things so much easier.
I’ve just finished the 3rd tutorial and here is my result.

It’s not as accurate as yours, but hell, style over realism as you say

Not bad Seb Not bad at all.

Just remember the one rule however Learn to be accurate by practice and after practice comes stlye;)

Sorry budda Jason found that in a fortune cookie earlier and has been dieing to use it ever since.

Glad the videos are helping you out.

Um ya so I realized I posted that lesson 21 but never updated my site. So my airhead self decided hey lets make another video to wrap up all the cool stuff I learned from making my last 3 pieces of illustration. (see main forum)

This is my attempt at your excellent tut Jason. The Skull. Thought I would tell you just in case you didn’t recognize it. I know. I know. The bones are not all correct and I haven’t put in the fine detail yet. I just was so excited to get this far I just wanted to show it.

A huge thank you Jason. You are a gifted teacher.

JimScullt.jpg

Woow Hardtwist, that’s impressive! I haven’t tried it yet, but I think you’re doing great!

Jason, this is the greatest “16 Lessons” I’ve ever seen - Lesson 22 and rolling! Does it ever end? Lol - please say NO!

Thanks again for everything!
judee

[font=Times New Roman]Hardtwist that looks really good the gold tooth is a nice touch

For people that are making skulls Just know I think that is the one thing you must memorize by heart. And The Main things to memorize are the Cheek bones and how far it protrudes compared to the other parts if the face. Just know the bones that stick out the furthest and when you do heads it wil be very very easy.
Lol Judee I know When I started I thought wow 16 lessons are more than enough to cover this program. But I changed direction with the lessons alot after the axe video and go the way of teaching techniques alot more. This programs has buttons for buttons and curves that make buttons work and not work its like the freeken hellraiser cube
I still have to do that animation lessons and lighting / texturing lessons in maya but have been spinning my wheels until my copy of maya 2008 comes in the mail which has been lost somewhere between here and the desert where the camel must have dropped it or something.

And whenever Unreal engine 3.0 hits the market (November) I will be taking a few to learn that for sure. They want me to teach it as a class and hopefully it has not changed much since 2004 or it might take me a few weeks to get it down

Thanks Jason, Your tutorials are excellent!

I joined “the House” just last weekend and I am really digging your videos. Keep them coming! One thing I would like to know is if you are having the same issues with Zspheres that I and others are having? Images are here:http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=52126

Do I need to create my zspheres in ZB2 and import them into ZB3.1? I am going absolutely mad here! I can’t get my Zbuddy build in 3.1!

Nope never seen those bugs here and I use Zspheres alot. One thing I do a little differently and I really dont think this would change much is I model with Zspheres that are at a resolution of 1 not 0.

the option is under the transform pallet labeled xres yres zres and you have to draw out one Zsphere before you can change the option to 1. Lesson 4 on my site has the complete rundown. Heres a script that shows that I have no issues in 3.1 also. Because the Tut was done in 3.0.
