Intel Inside - Experiment

So i’ve really had NO problems running it on my macbook pro with 2 gigs, it actually runs a bit better then my dualcore AMD with 2 gigs. So i’m quite happy. The only bug i DO have is that my redraw doesn’t seem to work right (compared to the demo on the PC). Basically as i’m drawing my model rezes itself down a couple of steps, and even sometimes draws a “rect” around the drawing area. It fixes itself after it rotate or move the model, but its making it quite difficult to make fine details. Has anyone else seen this? Is this just a video issue?

Hello shonuffhome and BazC and welcome.

shonuffhome, can you tell us wht your preferences are set at in Zbrush for memory and performance?

Just wondering if anybody got the same problems as I have. When I try to use ZAppLink on my Intel Mac, ZBrush just quit. Can’t find out why.
Do not have the problem on my windows computer.

Edit:
Got it to work… next time I do a search before I ask
Just had to change to folder name from Zbrush 2 to Zbrush2…

well, I installed 10.4.9 and ZBrush 2 is no longer responding using the script.

i’ll do a restart and try again, but it doesn’t look promising.

Dave

Hello Lasse Eriksen Bjørseth, where is your Zaplink plugin installed? Are you syre you have the most current Mac version? What app are you connecting to? Did you set it up in Zbrush? Give me some info, we’l see if we get you sorted.

timaging, should be fine, tested it myself on 3 machines. What does Console report?

Hi Jason,

This is all I’m seeing before I get a full gray screen and then beachball:

2007-03-14 13:11:21.722 applet[1645] CFLog (21): dyld returns 2 when trying to load /Library/ScriptingAdditions/QXPScriptingAdditions.osax/Contents/MacOS/QXPScriptingAdditions

Dave

Hmm, try remaking the script, did you have any firewire devices plugged in when you did the 10.4.9 update??

not sure how one remakes the script? I’ll cull through the thread and see if I can figure that one out.

regarding firewire: yes there was something plugged in, but not turned on.

Dave

One other thing I’m noticing is that only the first time attempting to launch was I asked for my username/pw. Every other time, it just went straight to the beginnings of the startup screen.

Dave

You must run the script each time. It will open the app. Yes, please make sure your script matches the latest in the thread. Let me know.

oh yeah… the ONLY way I can even start up is with the script-it’s just not working any more since I upgraded.

And since this thread is something like 14 pages now, do you have a feel for what page might contain the latest script?

Thanks!!

Dave

ok, I found something called “_zbrushrun_master.app.scpt” which seems to do the trick…

Dave

Hi Jason,
Matthew from support sent me to this thread, I have problems starting zbrush2 and even after following your instuctions here, and having it to run after massaging it with persistance it hardly works correctly, crashes often on pretty much anything, last time it was rendering a 500k polys model.
It seems to leak after a while, becomes clumsy, and boum!
I can’t find the script, Could you point it out. Thanks.
Got a new imac 24" @2.16Ghz.

Here are the details:
Processor speed: 2.16Mhz
Memory (MB) as supplied by Apple: 2Gb
Memory (MB) installed afterwards: 0
Memory installed afterwards - Paired (Y/N): 0
Memory vendor:
OS X version:10.4.8
Dev Tools installed?: yes
Anything else you can think might be relevant: 256Mb video ram
Success (Y/N): some for starting, end crashing
Issues: can’t wait to have it running to its full potential.
Opinion: Pray for an early release of zbrush 3, universal, 64bits, os X
No. of tries before launch?: plenty
After quitting, No. of tries before launch?: a lot

Thanks for the help.

M

Hey thanks for the response.
Right now i have them set to whatever default is, but i have 2 gigs on my mac, and its an intel core 2 duo… so it should run pretty well. On my PC i have the same settings (for the demo version) and it doesn’t have these problems, the redraw issues.

marxel39, are you saying it’s crashing while running?? This is something other than Zbrush. I mean sure the odd crash, like once a year might happen. Certain rapid scaling issues will casue a crash, but you need to provide detailed info on what you were doing to garner any help. The script is near the top, we fisxed a few things so follow along in a linear fashion, it’s not that far in.

timaging, I’m glad your rolling.

shonuffhome, try these settings in the image below. Now I have no redraw issues and your the first to post them. I’ve not even seen that issue on a Mac Mini which gets it’s graphic memory by sharing with the system heap. So you’ll have to help me out a bit. What else did you install? All software up-to-date?

I’ll help you all, and I know the thread is long, but it’s all here to help you. Wait until you get the urge to master zsphere’s and head to that thread…

As for waiting and praying for Zbrush 3 Universal, I can assure you it’s worth the wait. However you have an advantage over your PPC brethren, you can run ZBrush 3 under Windows directly and or under Parallels/Windows, both offer amazing performace. The true power of Apple these days is that you can run any OS and all it’s apps these days!! Don’t squander that advantage!

Yeah, people have to remember not to have firewire drives mounted doing an OS update and repair permissions and disk prior. Keeps life simpler.

Heya Jason. I’ll try these settings to see if they help. basically is a free macbook pro, i have installed blender (actually checking it out) and maya 8.5, photoshop, but thats about it. Has all the standard mac osx stuff on there, itunes, etc. nothing fancy.
oh and ms office for mac.

With regards to zb3, so if we switch over to the windows version at release, do we not LOOSE our mac capabilities? I mean, thats a license tranfer… not a universal license like modo or others use correct? So really, as i understand it, i will completely wait for the u-binary over the windows version… unless i can run both or whatnot. Main reason i bought a mac was that it had all the apps i needed available. Is there any info beyond whats on the page regarding the “license transfer” and the results of doing so?

THanks!

ok so i reset my memory to what you’ve included and it didn’t make any difference. Here is an example of what i’ve got, included in comp.jpg… left side of image. Basically if and once i edit i get this look, then i simply rotate the view (even just a pixle) and it redraws to the comp.jpg, right side of image. it makes it hard to validate any edits because i have to constantly edit, rotate, edit, rotate. The bigger problem is that when i’m drawing it looks like that, very low quality… even has a small rectangle around the draw area. Its causing a high level of frustration.

shonuffhome, sorry I have no more info on what Pixolator posted - not an employee.

You can hold off for the Mac version of ZB3. The power of the Mac is that you have options. How each individual makes use of them is going to be as unique as they are.

I have a Mac license and I will buy a Windows license so that I can run Zbrush 3 no matter what. That said, I’m in production daily and need tools at my disposal so I’m part of a very small minority here.

As for your drawing issues, not quite what the terms you used imply. I’ve seen this before, I believe Aurick or Ryan posted a solution on the forum previously on a couple of occasssions. I’ll have to think about it, I remember it’s a simple fix, but not what that is…
