Hello rickg55,

marcus_civis has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Image Plane 3 - plugin upgrade - in the ZBrush ZScript Utilities Forum forum of ZBrushCentral.

Here is the message that has just been posted:

  1. Load your model and put it in Edit mode///// I did this as stated

  2. Press the Image Plane>Load Image button and select the image.////////
In this one I went to ‘texture’ then ‘import’; then I selected the jpg image. Then I went to ‘image plane’ and clicked on ‘load image’.
I also tried clicking first on imageplane and load image, but none of the photos were highlighted (ie selectable) from the window that opened.

No image dropped anywhere on the canvas, nut there was the image in the texture panel. When I painted over the tool, the image acted like a brush …

With a model in Edit mode, Image Plane will load the image as a back drop. You can use the Image Plane>Model Opacity slider to make your model more or less transparent.

HTH

with the 3.5 update i cant get the image to drop to the canvas like it did before.
am i doing something wrong?

rickg55,

Please say which operating system you are using and which version of ZBrush.

Thanks,

eku,

You will need to wait for the updated version Image Plane before using it with ZBrush 3.5. It will be released as soon as it is available. All plugins will need updating before they will work without issues in 3.5.

Hi Marcus,

I am on a MacBook Pro with Leopard (am upgrading to Snow Leopard later today) and have ZBrush 3.2

rickg55,

Thanks that’s useful. Please also say which version of Image Plane you are using. You can get this by clicking on the Help button in the Texture>Image Plane submenu. At the bottom of the note that appears it will give the version and the date.

Thanks,

no problem… glad to know its coming is enough for me ^^

Thanks Marcus,

its image plane 3.1 august 2007…

rickg55,

Thanks, that’s what’s causing the problem - you have the PC version installed. Download the Mac version from the Downloads Center (see my signature). Make sure you delete the old version ZSC file before installing the new one.

HTH,

thank you!

worked perfectly…now just two questions;

can I size the photo?
what file type is best to bring in?

soooo relieved!!

Good.

JPG or PSD files are the best. If you are loading the image behind a model in Edit mode then you need to set the ImgSize slider first to scale the image, though you can easily place the same image at the adjusted size - make sure it’s selected in the Texture palette and clear the background (Ctrl+N) first.

Thanks Marcus,

In trying this out I see that sculpting over a photo isn’t all that easy, as it is hard to see clearly once the opacity has been lowered on the tool…

With that in mind, would it be possible to do this like an engraver does by transposing the details from one location to another?

For example, if we could put a photo to the left and the tool to the right of the screen side by side, the brush could touch the picture and the details superimposed on the tool…

I think this would be a great help to anyone who uses a photo in ZBrush

take care,
Rick

hi all,
i’m really in need of the zbrush 3.0 version of image plane… anyone have it on their drive or a link perhaps? zbrush 3.1 doesn’t work too well on my computer so i have to stick to 3.0 and the lack of shift v, shift h in revC of image plane is killing me.

Image Plane 3 Mac (OS 10.5.8)
I try to use it with PM but I get an error:

For technical reasons this version of ImagePlane cannot be used with ProjectionMaster

Yes, the changes that have been made in readiness for SpotLight in ZBrush 4 means this technique isn’t available.

hi all
i was trying to learn about Image plane from Gnomonology tutorial http://gnomonology.com/tutorial/246

after couple try i noticed i don’t have the ImagePlaneCube.ztl
ImagePlaneX.ztl and ImagePlaneX_face22.ztl and image references psd for both files i searched them and i only found the ImagePlaneX.ztl
i downloaded the imageplane plug in from download session and the imageplane 3.1 upgrade from zbrush central they only have the plug in file.

Glad to hear you’re using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don’t hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.

Dukowsky,

This plugin is not used in that tutorial. The plugin can be used to sculpt with a reference image as a background - see the instructions.

The ImagePlaneCube.ztl should be in the ZTools folder, or the ZTools/ImagePlane subfolder for ZBrush 3.5.

Please don’t use this plugin with ZBrush 3.5 until an update is available from the Downloads Center.

Thanks,
