fun with zbrush

Doris, I’m impressed! Stunning visualization!
My best wishes!

Sincerely, Leo.

just luv this one… how are you rendering out your water?

lexxx thank you. i admire your sculpting too, very much.
tyrellcorp. the rendering is with blenders cycles renderer. i made a plane with “waves” and positioned above the jellyfish. the camera is looking up, and thus through this “water surface” into the sky … this waves plane got a shader that was based on glass and transparent shader (with some tricks to get the lightbeams). for the glass i changed the ior to 1.33 as this is what clear water has. around the jellyfish is a box, that does not render, but holds the volumetrics that do render, colored with a mix of blues and greens. and this box has a particle system that create the bubbles, there are several different bubbles that are randomly distributed by this particle system. the bubbles have a glossy mixed with glassshader… yes, and then you just hit render, and wait very long …

Question:
These bubbles have normals inwards or outwards?

michalis, these are just slightly modified spheres, so the normals point outwards

i might be the first one this year with an autumn image, but to me hedgehogs and autumn belong together  … zbrush, blender, photoshop, as usual…

Hello Doris, but you’re also very diligent!
This again looks so alive!
I feel the love of life and all life forms that make up your art.
You transport feelings and that’s awesome.
Looking at the image, I must immediately think of old tales and the time in the fall. Very good!

Ciao,
TM

thank you tm, your word are very poetic  …yes, nature is everything for me. so glad it comes through in my work.

i am doing a nature challenge, to learn how to create environments… this waterfall scene is sculpted, meaning terrain, water, and waterfall are sculpted, in blender for basemeshes, zbrush for fitting together and detailing. the highpolymeshes were then uv and decimated down, so that blender could import them. zbrush was also used for textures, and for painting masks to be used in blender. the trees (10 000) are relatively simple models. there is no watersimulation, everything is modeled\sculpted… rendered in blenders cycles… a little postpro in photoshop, for ariel perspective and depth of field…

and here is the full render

amazing job doris.so peaceful.love it.;)

Excellent job. I can’t imagine the work that went into that. One teeny crit, if you don’t mind. You mentioned some post work for depth of field; it looks like you might have made the clouds out of focus as part of that work. This is in fact incorrect. If this were a regular photo just about everything in the image should be in focus. Depending on the lens used most objects past 30 feet (which seems to be the case here, even the foreground) to infinity would be in focus. It’s only when you are photographing close objects that distant ones can be out of focus. Right now, as it stands, the image kind of reminds me of the recent popular trend of making landscapes appear as if they are miniatures being photographed (there is a name for the style that I can’t remember).

Anyway, take that for what it’s worth. Still a good job.

Edit: Remembered the photo style name: Tilt-shift photography.

diablo, thank you. good, this is what i had in mind, peaceful
lensman, thank you so much, i did not know that…so, it would have been correct to only put the ariel perspective. lesson learned for future projects. thanks a lot for explaining and showing  … about the amount of work, i believe it looks much more than it was. i had the trees already from a previous project, these a few hours only, and with them i did the whole scene in 3 days. so, for me, this was more of a “quick” project

just a quick portrait sculpt… roughout dynatopo, finishing sculpt and pose zbrush. render cycles.

max_small.jpg

this time a portrait of a young german actor, tom schilling. all sculpted in zbrush, rendered with cycles.

Once again wonderful!
The pose in the corner is a good solution. The clothing has become super.
Everything is very much alive again.

Ciao,
TM

Very good image! I like the sculptural feel to it and the mood of the scene.
Superb!

thank you tm, my friend. oh, i got to love sculpting clothes, once i got the hang of it. it is very relaxing
takai, thank you. yes, i aim always more for the sculptural than for “ultra realistic”, and am glad when it is perceived

on a recent walk through the forest, i detected an unknown species of insectivore
it seems to be a night active being, as the big eyes and ears show. the claws indicate that he digs for his prey. his sharp teeth show that he can easily bite through the hard armour of insects. and the feet, big as they are, make him well adapted for living on muddy, wet forest floors. he is quite small, and obviously has a lot similarities with a human being, despite the head… he does not seem to have protections, but his skin coloration might be a good way to camouflage, may be that is why he was not earlier found … as i am the first to have seeen these adorable creatures, i may name them  and, i think, leman is the perfect name for them

i had a chance to observe this little group a little longer without them noticing me

(full size render is here)

on the technical note: sculpting, zremeshing, uv and texture painting of the creature in zbrush in a neutral pose, shapekeyes and posing via armature in blender, environment done in blender. rendered in 4 hours in cycles, a few little touchups in photoshop. … zremesher is now so great, that it really produces nice meshes with a few guidelines. no more spirals and very good for posing with armature
i hope you enjoy

awesome thread! lots of fun going on in here! love your variety of sculpts and projects! great stuff!

Beautiful. Very well done.
