In the spirit of ZBrush experimenting. A quick test using textured sculptris pro single sided meshes.

Method used:Using subtool image planes to transfer textures to uv’ed sculptris pro meshes using Transform>3d copy.
Draw out both the uv’ed subtool mesh you wish to transfer a texture too + a background (in Zdepth) image textured plane subtool >record the subtool positions with a Marker but drop only the image plane subtool to the canvas.
Redraw the mesh you wish to transfer the texture too (using the recorded marker) then in Edit Mode use Transform > 3d copy (with rgb switched on) to transfer the texture of image plane previously dropped to canvas.
With subtool transparency setting switched on the edges of the mesh planes above the image planes can be erased to the outline required by smoothing with sculptris pro according to the textured subtool behind. NB: After erasing edges by smoothing with sculptris pro you will need to reapply uv’s to the mesh before transferring textures as described.
These image planes can be further sculpted and deformed to catch the light as required to add depth etc.
