Captain Sensible: thanks Chris, I’m glad the helmet modeling went well cause pushing points gets me nervous… . Working hard on the updates!

Pitchepuck: thanks for dropping me a line man! Glad u like! Say, your Making of Hedgehog went up on the right moment: I’m really leaning on your workflow explanations on the clothing/texturing… awesome!

Martin@PIXOLOGIC: Martin, thank you for your reply and the awesome comment (rubbed my eyes and looked again – your reply was still there…). As I said before: ZBrush is groundbreaking software and I’m deeply honoured that you think I’m putting it to good use.

Maxinkuk: Max, thank for the great comment. Quote” Great stuff Etcher, you look really inspired… and inspiring.” You have no idea how big a part ZBC and its great community spirit plays in getting my ideas out. So, thank YOU for inspiring me. Looking forward to your new works.

Euge: Hey man, glad you liked the journal page, wasn’t sure if I should post it (to much talk-no sculpting…).Do you think I should post another one in the future? Also, what is Rorschachs?Think I’m missing out on something here. Thanks also for the nice comment on the helmet modeling!

Lucky 1: glad u like the helmet! Quote:” Amazing how much work/love you put in your guy” honest answer= for once in my life, I’m trying to get something to completion decently… . On the Steamboy thing: absolutely no (conscious) inspiration taken there. But regarding the originality/novelty of my concept… it’s probably the umpteenth 10 to 14 year old boy sporting over sized goggles… .Let’s see if I can give it a twist though… . Thanks for dropping by man!

Tommy3d: thanks so much for you comment! Motivates me to keep workin’!Looking forward to your works!

Yona: Cédric, thank you for the awesome compliment! Glad to hear I’m not the only one wasting time on sketching, doodling, scribbling… . Yep, the helmet stuff went okay so far. But, I never polypainted… That’s gonna’ be such a disaster!
On the BG stuff: no plans yet; I’m having a creative explosion in my head right now, trying to get that on paper/Zbrush first.
But: quote:” would you like to make a collaboration work on it?
If you want, i’m your man!!” This is something I do not take lightly, coming from a talented artist like you. Thank you Cédric-I’ll hold you to it! We’ll see what the future brings. Say, don’t you already have a “collaboration” feeling right now: I sure am: when I see your (almost daily) updates I get the feeling that you’re working in a studio next to mine which I walk into every day to see the new stuff! Awesome!

Romilchoprazb: thanks for the constant feedback Romel – so motivating! Hey, hold off on the home reno congratz: still gotta paint to more rooms and put in a new floor…!

Ravioli_rancher: thanks you for taking the time (every time)to reply to my updates, your feedback is very valuable to me in evaluating my work and progress. I’m eager to get the sculpt finished cause I want to get him posed and react to something/someone. So, rest assured I will make a pedestal, but scenes will follow.

bLawless: Brandon, what an honour to have you commenting my works! I’m feeling very honoured that you like it so much! Energy levels again boosting to the max! You have no idea how your works and awesome tutorials teach and inspire me! Thanks for your invaluable feedback!

Bitans: Thanks for dropping me a line. So glad you like the works! You’ll be hearing from me for sure cause you got some great stuff goin’!

Sculpting clothes! ! happy  !

Hi there, been following your thread for quite a while, but never posted a comment (since I never show stuff I hold back on criticism and/or comment). Great progress, great sculpts. I especially loved the ‘ZBrush and real life’ part, keep those coming! It may seem pointless to you, but it’s a good influence on aspiring artists - such as me - not only to see the fruits of work but also the real life that comes with being an artist… For example, in many interviews artists will be like ‘oh, i love my job here at insert company name I can go snowboarding before I go to work and stuff’. It’s just nice to know what the other side of the medal feels like if you dig further into zbrush and art in general.

What the other guy meant with Rorschach I cannot say. Basically Rorschach Tests are a psychological thing where you’re shown different plates which just have some colored ink put on em, then they were folded in the center and let dry, so they have a symmetrical random pattern. Based on the test subject’s answers on what he sees in these patterns, the psychologist can then try to guess what your way of seeing things says about your personality  It’s a bit controversial, I guess… Also, there’s a character called Rorschach in the Watchmen-comics and it’s recent movie adaption, who’s wearing a mask that constantly changes it’s black-white-pattern. Maybe he was referring to that in regard to your boy with the goggles on and his skin being all grey

Anyhow, keep the Updates coming, looking forward to see more great stuff.
Have a fun easter with your family,
Jones

yea definitely, its rather interesting hehe
Rorschach’s a character from the watchmen  he narrates the movie/comic based on his journal haha, was kinda a random thought

How are you scanning in the pencil drawings? Is the sketchbook 8x11 or 11x14? I’m having trouble scanning 11x14 sketchbook drawings. Too big for most scanners, and its also seems to be not bright enough. I can always adjust brightness, but its best if you get it right at the source I think.

hey etcher,

awesome work man! you really have a lot of skill!!!
i really love your reference sheets. they will be a huge help. i often have the eye-problem, but in future sculpts i will have nice help!

and your progress looks awesome. keep it going!

and btw. many thanks for your nice replys and big help on my worx. i really appreciate it.

Great stuff Etcher, I love it. :+1:

Elvaron: Jones, thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my worx – glad u like! Very, very pleased you liked the journal: the info it gave you (other side of the medal) was the reason I posted it. I too am interested in knowing more about an artist’s life, makes me value their worx even more. Thanks for the info on Rorschach – looks like Euge was talking about “Watchmen”. A few weeks back, a saw the trailer on tv – never heard of it before… shame on me?
A fun Easter to you too. See ya later, gotta’ go paint some ceilings (have to be finished before Ryan goes live!) :+1: !

Euge: Okay, will post more journal pages occasionally. Mmm, how could I miss out on this whole “Watchmen” thing? Too much ZBrush, probably… .

Womball:My scanner is A4 size – sketchbook pages and drawings are rarely larger. If they are, I scan them in part by part and puzzle the pieces back together in PS. I’m trying to get these pages on ZBC fast, so I scanned them in quite sloppy: size to 100% resolution to 150dpi. Applied no pressure on the scanner lid: this ensures that more of the paper grain comes through. Adjusted levels in PS a bit to enhance the paper look.

Wethand: so glad the ref sheets can be of use! Thanks for the nice comment on the updates! Quote:” many thanks for your nice replys and big help on my worx.” You’re welcome man! I’m such a big fan of nude, wrinkled, diaper wearing Easter bunnies… .

Jp_smith: Jason, thanks for checking out the progress! Glad you think it’s ok. I’m paying regular visits to the Overwatch thread now to study your subtool workflow on the clothing and props! You have no idea how your info’s helping me out! :+1: !

-painting ceilings…-

Hey Etcher
THAT´S AWESOME !!! WOW
:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
Such a great presentation + modeling job!!!

Nice update btw :+1:

Moni-poroni: hi Monja nice to know I did ok so far - thanks! Let’s see if I can do the same with the cloth stuff… .Can’t let you down :sunglasses: !
Ha! Too bad about the router! Are your dogs trying to tell you something? Oh well, good to see your back online. :+1: !

Renaud Galand: Renaud, thank you so much for dropping me a line, and the nice comment! :+1: ! But most of all: thank you so much for the nice comment on my son’s drawings. When we woke up this morning, I saw your reply and explained it to my son. He was shining with happiness! He couldn’t believe you really said that! (btw he just turned 9-still need to correct that). Thank You :+1: !

TDunn87: Hey, thanks for the compliment! Crazy subtoolage drove me crazy! That’s the reality of it… ow, yep… transpose master’s probably gonna’ be insane too… ! Thanks for stopping by :+1: !

-so, little time to sculpt on the clothes- need to paint walls…

Hi Etcher, I´ve a new router since two days – but I can´t go online. :rage:
My PC tells me there´s a DNS configuration problem.
I have no clue what´s that  – anyway, I´m at my parents house so I have time to check ZBC.
I´m finished with one of my models and I´ll start posting pics as soon as I can go online.

Hope to see your update soon, too.
Have a nice weekend.

Great work. Educational thread. :+1:

Moni-Poroni: hi Monja, too bad I can’t help you out with the router stuff (don’t know much about computers…). But hey! great news! Looks like you’re about ready to post! So looking forward to it :+1: ! Hope you can solve the router probs fast!

Im: hi Larry! What an honour to have you commenting my works! So glad you like them and took the time to drop me a line! I have been such a long time fan of your worx (I’m a long time reader of Musclemag)! Thanks for motivating me to keep going! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: !

hi Etcher , it’s really interesting to see the axl’s developement steps. i like it a lot  and your little stories about your son made me laugh man, ahah good time

Hey Etcher! The helmet and presentation is absolutely great!!!
The story with your son and the naked lady made me laugh out loud.

Thanks, Etcher. From your accurate and detailed anatomy studies to your useful notes and drawings …you are the Leonardo of ZBrush.

Ncollings: Nicolas, thank you so much! So glad you like the Axl sheets - I hope the final sculpt will live up to the expectations… . Thanks for your support! Regarding my son’s antics: I’m afraid I haven’t seen the last of those… , good times … . :+1: !

fox1983: Fox, thanks for the nice comment on the helmet, I’m so glad I pulled it off cause those polys… ! About my son: sure man! laugh about it! I wasn’t, that’s for sure … !

Im: hey Larry, If I am the Leonardo of ZBrush, then you are most certainly one of the inspirations of the Leo of Z! Infinite thank you for that comment, tu: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: !

Wow, fantastic concepts. It’s really interesting to see how you work.

Etcher

Finally got round to posting on your thread again. What you have done with these anatomical studies is simply brilliant. They are clear, intuitive and really great to referance.

I am very glad to be back on ZBC after my deep reserch period and amazed to see your fantastic progress. Whats you background btw. You look like you might have done animation at some point? Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.

BTW just give Axl an eye patch and your son will love your work even more

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
