Energise´s Sketchbook (mini-tut pge 5, 6 & 17)

Hi Frederic!

Sorry for the late reply, I have been traveling alot the last few weeks :grimacing:

Thanks a lot, glad you like my sculpting.

Do you have a thread here at zbc of your soldier?

For the belts and straps I usually extract them from the underlaying subtools in ZB. You might want to do some retopology afterwards if they are screwed up.

I also create some of them directly in maya by extruding a box along a cv-curve and then refining the strap in zb.

Both ways are good for different situations

After you are happy with the shape just go crazy with alphas or bumpmaps!

For easy things like hatbands and pants-belt the best way is usually to step down to the lowest subdiv level (if you have good topology) and just extract the strap/belt in zb. This way you´ll get a lowpoly belt that fits perfectly.

Hope my chattering was useful hehe :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck!

Hey guys!

Thought I´d share some progress on the Spetsnaz.

For the final render I will try and push it further by rendering it out in passes,

but I´d love to hear if you find something odd at this stage

…great work!

cool work man)) putin ahaha)))))) :+1:

Find the drag on the mask a little off but otherwise great work. Nice little touch of smoke.

Wow!!!

Wow!!!Top row again dude! This is looking amazing. Great job on the render and texturing:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

wow great texturing man!.:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:. but if I can speak my mind, that yellow light came form the right it’s a bit disturbing especially on the trousers.

This just gets better and better, keep it up!

fantastic !! top row again for suree

Sweet texturing, Jonas! The colors are a tad too saturated maybe, but all in all he looks really great!:+1:

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments guys!

I have a problem with renderpasses in Vray that is driving me crazy

Does any of you know the correct workflow for rendering out sss2 materials in passes?

When I have “scatter gi” ticked in my sss2 materials then the vraydiffusefilter pass turns all desaturated and ugly. When it is ticked off it looks fine, but I guess that screws with the overall sss look?

I am a noob in Vray so I am sorry if this is a stupid question

mutte696: Thanks Maarten! Your latest Wilhuff Tarkin sculpt looks awesome, would love to see more humans from ya! :stuck_out_tongue:

Derek Frenzo: Thanks, glad you like it (trying to get better at texturing and learn new ways)

sandpiper: Hey Jesse, glad you stopped by  yupp might some Putin in there hehe :stuck_out_tongue:

O/MI: Thanks  yeah, I used some pics of him to get the right feeling (sooo hard to find good pics on Putin :/)

rodion vlasov: Thanks man!

GX@W: What do you mean by “drag on the mask”? Thanks for the crit!

maxinkuk: Thanks man!

digitalmind: Hey Rodrigo! That Alien hunter is wicked! haha toprow again? Not in a million years  Thanks!

LOad: I truly appreciate your crits! I will try to tone the yellow light in post (when I figure out how vray passes works hehe) Thanks!

LeeJMilner: Thanks man!!

guilhermeluccas: Hahaha I wish  Thanks!

highlander_72: Ey Felix! Thanks for the crit! is it the textures that are too saturated or the lighting?

Whoa, another sweeet update man, love the crispness of the render -> the cloth texture comes out really great :+1: !

Great update! )

Lol! That only you can know, since I have no idea what the textures themselves actually look like. It’s the end result that appears way to saturated to my eyes. The metal parts on the AK look about right, as do the forearms, but not so the camouflage suit etc and the face, so it might be the textures. Looking at the boots and the overall rim-lighting, I’d also say the lighting really is a tad too much on the yellow-orangy side. But then again in a sunset setting he might look about right with some more shadow contrast.

Cheers!

Very niiice!
The textures and render made the model justice:+1:

Epic! Looks even better with color :+1:
