Love the anatomy studies… makes me wanna do some…

Very cool stuff here !!

Keep it on !
Cheers.

brian: thanks dude. no decimation master for me, displacement maps are quick and easy to use (once you know what you’re doing), and my topology stays in tact.

sleepfight: thanks, dude. you should, it’s a fantastic exercise.

oliro: thanks, glad I could help

I’ve spend the last few days really focusing my attention on how to get good results with skin shading. Once I add some maps to control the skin shader components, he won’t look so waxy. Getting some faceting on the eyelid, need to look in to that.

Rendered with mental ray in 3dsmax 2009.

Looks great, I think the BG sticks out a bit, not sure if its the lighting. Simple fix might be to blur the BG some. Do you use an HDRI for lighting or spotlights? Anyway, the sculpt itself is awesome, and the skin shader as well. I agree its a bit waxy but it could be the scale. I found out the hard way how much scale influences the SSS and lighting. Anyway, glad to see more of your work, always good stuff. :+1:

Nice work man … skin shading is luking nice …
a fill light from the left (of guy) might help in bringing out the character little more…
liked the pierced ear…
the teeth cud use more specular n slimyness.//
rest all luking nice.
:+1:

Got maps on the skin shader.

I was confused for a second, you took out the last image and replaced it with this new one. This new one definitely does it more justice, and has a nice look to it. He’s a bit more tribal instead of mechanic now, huh? Well he still has his cigar but anyway… great stuff. I think your skin shader is looking nice, you really got it dialed in. I dig it :+1:

P.S. plan on doing a full body or are you leaving it at the bust?

Great models :sunglasses:small_orange_diamond:+1: and thanks for the tutorial!

Hi Brian. The HDRI is just something I’m using for reflections. It being in the background was temporary. All lighting is manual. It’s a 3-point light setup with a fourth, very low, orange light for the cigar glow.

P4TRICK: thanks man.

Currently working on textures for clothing and accessories. I’m keeping it as a bust, no body or arms for this guy. I’m getting sick of looking at it, so I’ll probably call it finished soon.

Ahh thanks for the info. I think your textures are amazing. Very clean but believable. I see you just hid some accessories, to show off more skin i assume. Looks great. I envy you

Thanks. I’m having some displacement issues that I need to resolve. I pulled some images out of my inspiration folder with similar elements or a similar color pallet, and tried to stay close to what I saw. Left to my own devices I tend to over saturate my colors, so it’s good for me to have something to refer to.

This is Aang from Avatar:The Last Airbender. Just finished watching the series and thought it was great.

Sculpting kids and cloth is new territory for me so feedback is appreciated. I know the face and ears still need more love.

Nice work Dustin, you preparing for M Nights movie?

How long did it take to get to this point?

 Actually I didn’t know they were making a movie until after I had finished the series and started looking online for reference images of Aang for this sculpt.

That’s about five hours in.

hey dustin.

really a good start. nice stylized proportions.

Thanks, wethand.

Spent some more time on the face. Trying to avoid the temptation to go overboard on detailing the face since he’s young and I want to maintain a little of the cartoon aspect.

Let me know if anything looks weird. Thanks.

Hi, Dustin! Nice work. Tom Waits face very good!
My portfolio; www.platun-art.com

Simple lighting test. I like to block my lighting in before things get complicated by shaders, then tweak the lights as necessary. No displacement or other textures here. It will start looking more interesting soon, I promise
