Cartoon Cat Face WIP

Hawky

Use bright color eitehr for circle or its outer rim- say if inside color make it more bright purple - if rim make it bright golden - if you amke rim golden- make stars yeelow too. that will give it very bright and circus feeling, currently its looking very dull. If you make purple bright inside circle use white stars only.

Its coming out real nice - :+1: :+1:

Tip -Try making the curtains a bit more wavy and with more seams.

Nice! Very nice!

Lemo

Thx Lemmonado, and Wicked. I think I over did it on the frame. I went back and added another billowing curtain. This pict is a bit over exposed but it has a lighter feeling, which goes with the subject. Thx for the feedback, it really helps.

Great job Shannon. I love the rat, you did a real nice job on the fur. I also think it is great that you have a rat ring master introducing a cat juggling mice… somthing about that makes me smile. I am glad you changed the green unicycle to aluminum. Your attention to the details of the background is worthy of remark. I especially like the purple and gold drapes.

Improvements:

I think if you can get some sharper and darker shadows (like you expect to see from a performance lit by spotlights) you will have it nailed. You just need the depth that they would provide to complete the composition. As it is now, it looks as if Barker is in danger of poking one of the mice with his baton  You just need to add some spacial references tobring forward or receed the characters. It is for sure coming on very well.

One last thing. I would shorten the unicycle seat… it looks a little like a… err… cod piece  If you know what I mean.

I look forward to seeing more.

Hawky the first curtain was looking better.

What I mean was to give its furrows or grooves more thin and detailed look, while this one looks more bloated ???

Ok if you want to keep the shape its ok, just add more minute curves to it.

There shouldnt be a large space between two folds if you go professionally.

currently its not looking like a curtain but a thick cloth sheet wrapped around forcefully - just need minute curves - use standard brush with more focus +alt.

Yes needs shadow.

Stage needs to be more in percpective hence a bit tilted upwards in the back portion to give more depth - just a bit.

Rest I think is ok and goes well with cartoon look :+1: :+1:

Hawkline, a wonderfully whimsical piece… Just the dancing rat frame alone is a blast. A cool, fun idea, well executed. I like the second to last image best, as the last one looks too washed out…

Dickie

Hey I did like the part at the front. Maybe you have to lower the density of some colors and play with the light and shadowparts. When you make the important parts of the scene the most colorful, the other parts will be the servant of it. On a ship has to be one captain, it’s the same with colors in a scene. Here a quick pict to explain.

As usually you put your finger on the problem. I am really fighting the lighting on this. I have looked at various threads on lighting in Z but it alludes me. I will have to try more experimentation. Does anyone know of a good thread or tutorial on this?

Here is the latest with all the good advice/comments incorporated ( I hope  ) Will continue to tweak this, since the corrections were all done in photoshop. I feel like letting it rest for awhile and proceeding on to my fire breathing alligator. Here goes:

FrameLightedReduced.jpg

BTW Bas I really appreciate the fact that you downloaded the picture and took the time to correct it, it really helps!

Yep! The last one. Maybe you can tweak the overexposed colors in PhS a bit!
Keep rocking! :+1: :+1:

I have been playing around with lighting in Z. This one is better (IMHO) but of course it is not the full scene.

LightingTest2.jpg

yes It looking better now. :+1: :+1:

Btw if you get any lightning tutorial let me know also - zbrush is good only because of its final lightning and rendering (though many say maya is better, still I beleive some great renderings can be done here) and have the least number of tutorials.

so weird it makes me think of taxidermied animals put into these weird unnatural stiff poses and dressed oddly. I like it!

that’s very disturbing… I can see it with the cat but the mice?

Last night I decided to revisit the thread: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=024572 Fungus Altho I am not sure exactly what is meant by the four descriptions I non-the-less decided to try and emulate the four render modes and drop them into photoshop in layers along with the model with texture applied. The light and shadow really popped out especially on the clothing. I am going to experiment with my original cat face to see what kind of effects this creates. If at all interesting I will post the stages.

mouseflatSample.jpg

I love that mouse :+1: Only this small part could be a toprow! Don’t let it sink away in a to much colorfull scene. Keep going :+1:

bas right, this mouse rocks

Thx Bas and froyd. I realized when I was putting together the scene that all my detailing on the animals was being lost. I think I am a vignette kind of person.

Me kitty, me like this mouse

This is great stuff Hawk
