Here is my first mouse. They will all be slightly different. Also some fur alphas.
This is my first Poster for my Carnival. Comments welcome
More Mice…
BTW, Bas, you need two friends to hold you up on either side when you learn to ride a unicycle. Read about it when downloading pictures.
Wicked,
In Z I use the fiberbursh at about 8 density 0 gravity 40 grooming and 0 turbulence. I set it to flat color and in the draw settings I use 50 width and height. I set the depth to about 1.50 and adjust it depending on the length of the fur. The highlight brush is also used a lot, I find that trail and error is the norm to get the right feel. I do a lot of smoothing and additional work in PhotoShop, lots of smear and highlight and burn.
Here is a really good cat and fur tutorial:

It’s in the gallery.
Here is my most recent putting some of the elements together. Would love some comments…
Yikes this thread has grown a lot. Nice work here Hawk and the image is really pulling itself together. The Mice are looking Nice too I am especially liking the cats expression. If I was a cat juggling mice my expression would be like that also
Thats a shame about the kitties Wicked but at least you have the one on right still around and will provide a good subject to base their form on. I think you can do the project you have set yourself on.
…and cuty mouses
Looks like the mouse police never sleeps! ;)(from a Jethro Tull song)
i really like the mice and the cat, good work!
Very original. I might consider desaturating the background so it doesn’t ditract from the main image.
Thanks for all the good feedback, you can however be a bit more critical.
You are right Elixir, the background is still too strong for the foreground images. I’m still working on the characters, not happy yet, but I feel I’m on my way. Here is a new mouse model which I think will be better. Let me know, and thanks again for taking the time to comment
I really like the original mouse. I wouldn’t change it. Your new mouse looks a little too humanoid. The arms are shorter in the original and a little more believable… think Stuart Little! You had it with mouse number one
great use of ZSpheres btw on the new mouse… I find them to be a bit tricky!
I would consider a aluminum material for the unicycle wheel. The green is a little distracting.
Hope all this helps
Great use of color to draw attention to the subject of the scene. I’d have to agree about the green wheel though. Draw attention too that cats face. Its perfect for the piece
Thx Elixir and Blaine! You are right the colors on the unicyle no longer work for the scene. Since this was a mock up I used what I had and comped it. I think the new “mouse model” can morph into my barker rat. I too, like the first mouse but my son suggested I work on a more Stuart Little mouse, I emailed him your reply Elixir I will continue to hone my characters and surroundings. This scene making is hard work
Here is my Barker Rad Ready to receive his Tux. He needs more detailing but I want to put his clothes on first.
Well here is my little Ratty. I’ve been working on him between Zbrush and Maya. After playing with Maya cloth I finally clothed him in Z. Seemed to work better. Hope you like him. As always comments crits welcome
This is coming together beautifully, hawkline13. I’m wondering about the shadow length and Zmode settings. I think he needs pronounced shadows. The colors, textures, and feel are so ‘Carnival’. As I look at your cat, I would love to see you do a ‘Grinning Cheshire’ looking down from a tree. 50.
Hi Kid, BTW you can call me Shannon
I used the photoshop light render to add more light to the image. I spent all day yesterday playing with the lights in Z. The problem is that the shadows are projected on the flat surfaces (like the cane on the curtain) and look unreal. I will soldier on however. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement
After so many mice and rats I just might take you up on the Cheshire Cat!
Wow, I am surprised
Nice poster of the Ronaldo Brothers. Maybe you can make a combination with that poster and the cat, throwing up the rats.
This is not a exactly a Cheshire Cat, but a smiling cat on the way to becoming one. Thanks for all the good input. I am still working on puting it all together in one large scene.
Hi Shannon! I’m glad I stopped by and was surprised to see a smiling cat on the panel. That’s just great! I like the way the face stands out from the fur. Great expression and purrrrfect fur. Sorry. Looking for more. 50.
Probably will tweak this a bit more but here is the full scene. I was gone for 10 days (went to a wedding ) but I returned to soldier on. There was a post in one of the other forums, some guy wanted to learn Zbrush in a week.
Ha, ha. There is so much going on now with all kinds of fabulous ideas and WIPs, I just want to keep up.
Thanks for all the good advice and comments. Please keep them coming, along with any questions.
