Nice job!
Not fan of avatar designs tho, only animal in Pandora that look like cats.
Hands down one of the greatest movies Iāve ever seen.
(IMAX 3D = AMAZING)
I agree with Scott (Patton). All of us involved know that there was so much cross over. It was like one big relay race. There were characters/creatures that I carried the batton over the finish lineā¦There were characters/creatures that I ran the first leg ofā¦and there where characters/creatures that I just watched from the sidelines.
It was a fantastic experience with an even more fantastic outcome.
In this open forumā¦I congratulate all of you (that I have not already) who contributed to the production. Incredible job!!
I agreeā¦Alsoā¦as wellā¦I mean, Yeah me tooā¦
havnt seen Avatar yet, but its nice to see your all in good spirits and having a blast showing the work, from what images ive seen so far, im looking forward to it.
Behind the scenes of Avatar (Hulu video)
for those that might not have seen this yet there is only one screenshot of what looks like the animation wire-mesh in the video.
I must say I saw this video before seeing the movie and thought the movie was getting over exposed ā¦when I saw it on opening Day it was wonderful. And yes the story moved me to tears at times. This film for its time, size, and scope ā¦Cameron and all involved really preserved the essence of the story.
If the deluxe DVD is anything like the Terminator2 SP-edition then it will definitely be worth it.
I instantly fell in love with the design! The silhouette of the banshee is superb!
Really really amazing work!
I got just one question:
Did you have problems getting the nose right of Sigourney Weavers Avatar version? Are there other concepts?
All other avatars have wide noses. She looks so different. -I know that Weavers nose is quite a significant to her face.
The movie is great. After I saw the first trailer, I was a little bit disapointed, because I instantly figured out the whole storyline. -But after watching the movie, I realized that this is an old story beautifully told.
It s an epic movie with a focus on visuals. But the discovery of natives, is so strong and beautiful.
ScannerD:The noses where always a problem but by the end we had a pretty good formula for setting up the eye to eye to nose triangle, it almost always worked.
I think that it was Jimās intent to make Grace (Sigourney)and Norm (Joel) look a little more human if you look at joel you will see I hardly changed his nose at all, just the tip, and a wider bridge. Another thing that was not in the concept is the eyebrows, Grace has them in the movie, canāt remember if norm has them.
Jake was a bit more Naāvi looking from the beginning, since he had to blend in with them and interact more.
Most people donāt notice that the Avatars also have four fingers like humans and the Naāvi have only three.
I saw Avatar on the first day, itās beautiful.
Hi patton⦠Can u post your uv maps⦠?? and textures⦠you used ⦠is it maya for final out put ? and what resolution u used for texture ?k ⦠this could be very help full
you guys are a big inspiration to me, i had to see the movie when it came out and it was the best 7.50 i ever spentā¦i am currently a tattoo artist and about to make the biggest transition and get into the 3d animation world, im a huge fan of animated movies and games as well⦠hopefully i can get into daveschool and countiue persueing my goals as an animator/matte painter.well thanks for your insparation again
Watched it though there are some plotholes and the like. the overall movies rocks dude
i mean man i thought it would suck but when i watched it it did not. it showed how much freedom the guy in the wheel chair have with the avatar and it was damn good
Thanks so much for sharing the images with us. I got to see the movie last night in 3D and ā¦W O W!!
I didnāt think I would like it as much as I did.
The CG was so good that I really stopped looking to try and pick it apart, but rather, I just got into the story and the characters became very natural and life like to me. It was very refreshing to go to a 3D film with all the latest and greatest tech in all realms of 3D and just sit back and enjoy a film and not feel like I was being slapped in the face with a 3D gimmick. So big congrats to you and the artist for pulling this off.
The emotions that you were able to pull of with your characters is also something you all should be able to be proud of as well. These are the first 3D characters where I actually felt the emotion of the characters. I wasnāt expecting this to happen! So big ups on that.
Now I am really curious about the whole realD 3D process. I understand that it works with circular polarization, but what I am wondering is, can you build your own 3D image on the computer and view it with the realD 3D glasses? That would be pretty darn cool.
Did the 3D process (RealD) change the way the artist worked? Did your thought process have to change at all?
Thanks again for sharing with us all! Your Gnomon work looks really cool as well!
Merry Christmas-NickZ.
Thanks all
nickz. First: thank you!
Second: you probably know more about the realD process than I do!:o
third: I came from pactical make-up effects, so Iām used to looking at things in the real world. If it does not look real = not going to work! all of the things we designed at Legacy/Stan Winstonās, were all made as a practical busts or maquettes as well as 3D sculpts, so we could test the theory, real looking = real.
soā¦no, the fact that it was going to be ā3D in 3Dā did not make a difference to us.
armsrongnt: I may post some stuff at a point, but trust me if I showed you the maps, you would laugh at me (weak cheese! :o ) It is the folks at WETA that did all the really impressive stuff. I just happen to design in 3D.
I have just seen the film and I have to admit that I am amazed!
I have one question though.
Having seen here the 3d zbrush digital models of the characters, I was wondering wether that whole movie was 3d generated OR it is a mix of video action with 3d representations of the faces from 3d renderings ?
Havenāt they used ANY kind of real puppet masks over true characters ?
That was pure 3d rendered movie ?
Iām 99% sure that the mesh is not the final hires model, itās more likely a stand-in for Motionbuilder instead. Itās just not detailed enough, based on my experience so farā¦
Impressive ! thanks for sharing !
Saw it last night⦠and have to say the āuncanny valleyā has been bridged.
While the storyline is silly, the execution is nearly flawless and proves (in the right hands) the viability of submersive realism in feature-length, 3D - CG cinema.
Weāll see it again (in a few weeks), next time NOT in 3D for the sake of comparison.
Congrats to all the talented teams involved and to director James Cameron for fathering yet another great milestone in American commercial movies.
Sven
I saw it, with my mother actually lol and it was amazing. Even she said it was possibly the best movie shes seen, as overall entertainment.
I actually enjoyed the storyline unlike some others here lol.
Great job guys! Things like this keep me highly motivated.
Hey, I havenāt seen the movie yet, but what I have seen so far, Iām eager to see it.
Patton, the artwork is great. Can you tell me, what 3d package you used for modeling? A bit of workflow, also? And wireframes, if possible?
In this profession we are always learning, and I love to learn from the bests.
Thanks, and congrats, I hope the movie will earn all possible Oscars.
