pain and suffering…
I installed the full version of ZBrush 4R7 onto my Cintiq Companion and it ran pretty badly (I only have the mid range, i5 model). My question is; since ZBrush core seems to be the pared down version, would it perform better?
No, ZBrushCore uses the same engine that ZBrush does. It IS the same program; just with fewer features. So the performance is going to be identical or darned close to it.
Our minimum and recommended system specs (along with build tips) are found at http://pixologic.com/zbrush/system/
There are some tricks you can use to get better performance in most cases. One is of course to not subdivide too much. Break the model into more SubTools rather than trying to crank an individual SubTool up high. Also, hide the portions of your current SubTool that you’re not currently sculpting. This allows ZBrush to focus your system’s resource on sculpting rather than rendering.
Thank you for the reply! I’ll just keep running off of my PC then.
I downloaded yesterday the trial of ZB full from this site. I installed it. I’m looking at all the functions and options in the menu. I’m not well versed in ZB. But what really annoys me, why must I now refer to a comparision page here of what features are NOT in ZBCore? Why can’t I just have those options in ZBCore available to me?
This is very frustrating as I do not know ZBrush but based upon the price of ZBCore I very interested in finding out if it would be a good compliment to some of the current 3D tools I a already use. I have NO way of finding this out without purchasing ZBCore.
I mostly work in photography (Nikon DSLRs, Adobe Lightroom CC 2015, Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5), 2D painting with Corel Painter & ArtRage. But I also love to do 3D modeling & rendering Silo3D, Hexagaon3D, Curvy 3D, 3DCoat and e-onsoftware’s Vue Complete. I really need a trail of ZBCore and NOT the full version of ZB as it is way out of my price range.
So WHY isn’t there a demo/trial of ZBCore. And the answere because there is a trial of ZB full IMHO is not a valid excuse.
watching some zbrush tutorials on youtube and in one of them the user turns off ‘Align Cursor to Surface’ which I’d very much like to do, however in zbrushcore there is no such menu item:
in zbrush : Preferences > Edit > Align Cursor to Surface
is this option available in zbrushcore?
Been playing a bit with ZB trial. The Zremesher function seems to be superior (and faster) than 3DCoats autorepo. Is the Zremesher in ZBCore?
Hi Kenmo,
in the comparison sheet it says that there´s no automatic retopology
in zbc. so i assume only the full version has this feature.
i know zbrush can be irritating on first sight with all the buttons etc.
dont let that scare you. zbrush summarized is a system with no dead ends.
it´s logical and well organized. and in the end „pretty easy to learn“
for what you can do with it - that´s another story - one life isn´t enough
and for the price it is a steal.
if you are still unsure - you have the trial for over a month.
go to the zclassroom - start from the beginning and in one month you wont
think twice that zbrush was the right choice.
looking forward for the works you will create in the future.
cosmic
given that there are major differences in features between zbrush and zbrushcore will there be a separate forum area for zbushcore users?
How does the wacom bundle work? Can I buy the wacom tab and keep it and give or sell the zbcore license to someone else?
I already have zbcore.
No one’s talking about zbrushcore, there’s hardly any videos by users on youtube. I’m getting Corel Painter Classic vibes, this seems like a one off. Which is fine, but for $150? There’s just too many features missing. It’s hard to recommend even to a novice when sculptris/blender is free.

Those are mostly tutorials, which people have different motives for doing. But I digress
And without a valid demo, I’m passing on ZBCore. I can not decide if ZBCore would be a good compliment to my existing tool kit of 3D & 2D tools (3DCoat, Hexagon3D, Silo3D, Curvy3D, Vue Complete, Sculptris, Wings3D, Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, Corel Painter 2017, Artrage). I really love the full version of ZB trail but at $900 USA that’s close to $1500 Canadian, it’s way too expensive for a hobbyist.
At that price I can buy a brand new 5 speed transmission for my antique car (60 Corvette). And at that price ZB is more expensive than any of the 5 DSLRS (Nikon D7100, Nikon D7000, Nikon D3300, Olympus E620 or Olympus E500) I’ve purchased in the last 10 years…
ZB full is too expensive. I’ll NEVER be able to afford it as I’ll be retiring in 1 or 2 years time. However I could be persuaded to purchase ZBCore but not without a demo…
Please clipping brushes!
My tablet pen tip is getting overused trying to polish flat surfaces
And its taking 10 times longer to make them flat and smooth.
CLIPPING:
you can clip a plane with the move transpose line. simply click the first point and you clip!
MaskLasso:
just use the maskrect and choose another stroke.
i LOVE zbrushcore! thaaaanks!
Thanks Jan! Thats very helpful.
Thanks!
But I’m doing small pieces of armor with flat panels at different angles.
The two methods above would be tedious. Clipping plane is a split second method.
try to work with the mask…
didn’t try it out, but i think this could work.
happy zbrush(core)ing! :)))
I really really hope they listen to feedback and expand on this, because yes, for 150 dollars, and the inability to import ANYTHING from full zbrush users, you’re trapped outside the community putzing around with a crap ton of tools missing and not even able to take advantage of anything the users make, resource wise.
This is in addition to the fact that it will cost you 50 bucks more than you’d think:
“Should you choose to do this, $100 USD from your ZBrushCore purchase will be applied to the ZBrush purchase”
https://support.pixologic.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/115
So if you want people to upgrade you make them happy and you make them like you, you don’t punish them at every turn and hope for the best, unless Zbrushcore is just a quick cash influx product?
stop hating!
if you hate zbrushcore so much and you think, pixologic is just farming cash, the smartest idea is to stop using it.
i think pixologic does anything, but cashfarming… every update since zbrush first launched was absolutely free. and now they released a cheap version to get INTO sculpting. NOT to work like a pro.
get your stuff together man and stop crying! i think this is the wrong platform for this…
and just btw: what the hell you want to import, what you can’t import?!?
wait a second… obj import… you can even use it as an "imm-brush"thing with dynamesh.
custom brushes are disabled… but if you are able to read, you could have known that before…
