About the next step for ZBrush

Thank you very much for all the efforts in bringing this new version to such a high level. I was thinking this day would never arrive… I’m glad I was wrong.

Keep up the best work.

Hello Nate,

Welcome, I remember you from the Carrara forum at Renderosity. Persist with ZBrush, it is an illustrator’s dream.

I can answer your questions:

  1. The cloth on the face bit is one of the new brushes. I can’t say much but it is a form of mesh projection and is very cool.

  2. Everyone has a problem with this concept when they first use ZBrush 2. The important thing to remember is: save the ztool before closing ZBrush. Even if you do accidentally drop the model to the canvas it is not lost - it’s still in the tool palette, with all the changes you made. Clear the canvas and redraw and you can go on editing. Just remember to save the ztool before closing ZBrush and then you can load it up and continue next session.

To many people this document/canvas/ztool thing seems quirky to the point of perversity. But I reckon that it’s this innovative approach that means the current version is as good as it is, and the next version builds on this in a truly astonishing way.

HTH,

Very exciting video ! Congratulations to Pixologic for such an innovative product.:+1:

Now I’m just wondering if the learning curve will be steep or not, and if the general ergonomy will stay familiar to v2 users. For example, for someone who ordered the Gnomon tutorials, will it be obsolete information, or will the new tools be used on top of the existing ones? I suppose the philosophy of the application will have changed a bit, but I’d like to know to which extend. If any beta tester could reply to this pretty generic question, that would be nice.

Thank you

For my experience, Zbrush 3 remain very similar to 2.0 regarding the learning …

The fact that there are new tool makes more things to learn of course, but they are very simple to handle.

I still use all my previous sculpting technics, everything works perfectly, plus there was things improved and new features added, giving MUUUUUCH more abilitys and freedom…

Any tutorial you have seen remain good for zbrush 3.

Nothing to worry about:p

Thank you Seb for your fast reply  It seems we’ll have some nice homework to do then

Ya I was happy about them not turning the interface inside out.
At least the way the videos look the interface is the same just added menus and buttons.
Over the summer I was planning on doing a road to a good portfolio video series and I did not want to start from scratch on Z training. Though the workflow will defiantly need to be revamped with all these new tools.
I cant even imagine the trickle down effect of how games and illustrations look after Z3 is released.

I have been waiting for this announcement every week for 2 months. When i saw the video, i thought “¡Holy ****! ¡the waiting is over, May15!” but i read this:

-the release date for the Macintosh version will be announced following the release of the Windows version…

D´oH!

The fact is clear…more waiting until…

C´mon Pixologic, for Christ love, i have a Mac Pro is like having a Ferrari without gasoline.

AngelJ vbmenu_register(“postmenu_334557”, true); -hi! thank you! ,yes ,prismacolor pencils are great too!!
the size of my draws are A3 ,A4,
A4- 19 X 24 cm ( the same size of the Alien concepts )

A3- 30 X 45 cm. thank you again Alex Oliver

I have found the learning curve very easy.
Although much has changed the work flow methodology from 2.0 is still very much relevant.
I have found of course , that I’ve streemlined my process even further and adapted it to 3.0, many of the new features simply make the tasks easier to do.

3.0 is a beast on to it’s own, a very welcome friendly beast.
There are so many new things that it just begs for new innovations in work flow and techniques.

It’s a brave new world, where you control the art.

i really enjoyed watching the vid! :+1:

To make a fair comparison, it’s actually like having a Ferrari that uses a special type of gasoline that is extremely expensive to produce. Everybody else uses the more common gasoline, so it’s a huge pain in the ass to make this expensive gasoline for the handful of people driving an iFerrari.

Good news.
I always thought, we’d get it bit by bit. And one day PIX would announce; “now you have 2.5”.

But I was wrong. We even get 3 now.
Thanks for this…I see that it’s worth every cent I’ve spent on it, including the wait.

Thumbs up!

So now, all we need is a video of how Z3 handles mesh creation…

ah man… that’s sweet.

May 15th is my birthday! that’s the greatest gift anyone ever offered me on my birthday!

Thanks, Marcus_Civis for the encouraging words and explanation.

I am going to try to get my zbrush education underway in the next few months. I may well take the leap and buy the software… which will force me to learn it… or “eat” it. I’ve done worse.

Time, contrary to the Stones song, is not on my side. I am loaded with projects which is not a complaint, but it leave little time to play… which is an irony because I could certainly make great use of Zbrush in my illustration projects.

Kindest regards,
Nate

Then it’s not play, it’s research!

can we please just get a friggin answer about the mac release?! anything? these guys must be watching this thread, for noting else but to feel the millions of pats on the back for the hard work. i’m so sick of being treated like a 2nd class user by devs just because i’m using a mac. it never seems to be a problem when i’m putting in my credit card number to buy apps, yet we always seem to get the short end of the stick.

uggh…forget it. :-1:

You’re free to chose… so everybody should be too.

Dude…

I quote ,“the release date for the Macintosh version will be announced following the release of the Windows version.”

All is right in the world, chill… and think happy thoughts.

Anyway, we have to wait. At least we will have the opportunity to install Zbrush 3 in our systems until we have the mac version in UB. Only hope that we won´t have to wait much longer that UB.
