Gâday Pix and ZBrush team.
Thank you so much for designing a program that is the best.
Thank you so much for making the new version free for registered users.
Thank you so much for your creativity, imagination, lateral thinking and willigness to work so hard to create a program that is simply unbeatable.
Thank you so much
Paul
Algorithm?
You know what, I watched that video an embarrasing number of times, and Iâm buggered if I even get whatâs really going on. To me, it looks like a cube with a reference image on each side (which is great). I feel really dumb watching it though, because I just canât see past the reference thing. You lot seem to be seeing it as something different to what Iâm seeing it as.
I wish someone would explain what itâs âactuallyâ doing different than just using an eight-sided reference for sculpting. I must have mental block for just THAT feature or something.
Humble Thanks⊠I have a genuine appreciation for your business ethics
and
I think I just wet myself watching that vid:o
From Pixolatorâs post:
2D / 2.5D /3D mesh projections ⊠topology/cavity/color based maskings
Oh, and cubes have six sides.
another wishlist questionâŠ
will it support multiple texture maps? ie, can we paint colour/spec/bump (ok, maybe not bump!) and see it update in the viewport as a single unified shader?
It could very well be, because Alex is on the beta team, so that could have been him or his pictures.
gonna fly off the earth with the new toolâŠmore easilyâŠthanx to the crew
Thanks Marcus, I still donât get it fully - but thatâs my fault for not knowing enough about ZBrush. I decided long ago not to bother learning ZBrush just yet. Iâve always intended to wait for the new release and then do some really intensive fiddling and learning - and man, believe me I will. I can hardly wait, it looks awesome!
Bloody hell, talk about mental block - more like mental breakdown.
Still, I knew it was called a cube though
what about symmetrical sculpting on a non-symmetrical posed model?
Concept Sculpting in the Video
Is it just me or is the image and work during the concept sculpting part of the video remind anyone else of Alex Oliverâs work a.k.a alexleia? Seems like his drawing style from what iâve seen of his work. If I was a betting man Iâd might put up some $ on this guess. Luckily iâm not but still curious if it is his work  .
Though at the top left hand corner it has (Pixolators) name it appears⊠bleh thankfully I donât gamble
AngelJ-yes,the Alien is one of many concepts ( i gues more than 120 draws ) that i did to sculpt with new Zbrush version .
soon i will post all sketchs here and sure the alien in high resolution
thank you!
Alex Oliver
here`s a preview ;
unbelievableâŠ
The video just outstanding!!! My friends and me was just killed with such amazing new features! Beautiful miracle!Thats, how it must be - the creation of new Art tools, for traditional artists by coding artists.
Really, thank You for Your deeds, Pixologic. Youâre the best!!
P.S.: Was shoked yesterday to say anything normally at all))
Yes, no, and maybeâŠ
99.9% of apps compiled for 10.3/10.4 will run quite happily on 10.5. Apps compiled for 10.5 will only install on 10.5. Developers wanting to support 10.5 features, but also support legacy OS X will need to compile 2 seperate versions. Whether this is relevant to the needs of ZB3 is open to conjecture, but given that all of Appleâs '07 releases are widely speculated to be 10.5 compatible only - and this is claimed to include iLife and iWork - it begs the question of whether it is justified to develop compatibilty for what are soon to become obsolete versions of OS X within the commercial realm.
The point I was really trying to make is that unless the source of ZB3 is platform independant - and ZB2 source wasnât - it will take many months of tweaking and revision to compile under Xcode, so Mac users shouldnât expect to see ZB3 on Mac anytime soon and whinging wonât make it happen any sooner.
Also I did mean to imply 2 Win versions and potentially 3 Mac versions, not 5 Mac versions. However 64bit for OS X is absolutely essential, and not a luxury as you imply. The absolute minimum RAM for 3D apps on OS X is 4 GB - well 3GB thanks to Intelâs C2D stuff up - and no commercial artist/studio is going to choose Mac 32bit over Win 64bit, no matter how much they love their Mac. Given that Mac only users probably account for no more that 10% of the ZB user base, there would be no commercial viability of maintaining a 32bit only version for Mac using hobbiests when commercial users within that user base would by necessity opt for 64bit Win.
â As for MacWorld, you really are a gullible Mac user if you believe any of the crap they print. They wouldnât know what a Mac was if it smacked them in the faceâ
However, all this assumes it is still feasible to develop ZB for Mac. No one can question the loyalty of Mac users towards Mac developers, but the same canât be said of our illustrious leader. Steve Jobs has himself hinted of the fact he sees âmodoâ as the future of 3D on the Mac and Brad Peebler as potentially the next CEO of Apple. Add the long held assumption that Apple is a financial backer of, and potential future buyer of Luxology; the well known fact that Luxology is privy to information available only to a very select few; the emergence of âmodoâ as a ZB alternative, and the fact that Apple never really supported Pixologic and/or ZB even before âmodoâ appeared on the horizon. In all, not a very inviting environment for a small developer like Pixologic.
Eventually ever Mac user will have an IntelMac. Ever Mac user will eventually be able to run âWindowsâ. Every Mac user will eventually have access to ZB3. Only arrogance will stop them from doing so. If Pixologic releases ZB3 for Mac Iâll use it, but given the choice of ZB3 Win only and ZB4 in May 2009 against ZB3 Mac in 2008 and ZB4 in 2011; even as a Mac user Iâd say give the Mac version the boot and concentrate on biennial updates to a Win only version.
Yiffer, you donât use anything that doesnât run on OS X, but I donât support any developer that canât guarantee at least a biennial update cycle. And at the moment Pixologic isnât very high up the list of my favourite developers.
I honestly think that zbrush is as important to artists today, as pencils and paint were when they were invented. 3 looks marvelous. kudos to you Pixologic.
Phrenzy84- ahh yes that definitely explains as much and then seeing the vid ties it together nicely.
Alexleia- Appreciate the reply! Its good to know my eyes are still keen to other peoples distintive works. Your concept work always has a pristine look and tremendous design
. Keep up the great work, its awesome to think how much talent they had on the beta team. Canât wait to see the images/sculpts from everyone and hear more about there experiences with the new version!!
Looks just like it if you ask me. I would like to see the finished work.
The really wild thing is just how fast he is cranking these outâŠ
my jaw is still somewere under my desk.
this will be the best thing since⊠everything
The video looks amazing!! just a greal leap ahead for ZBrush! I loved the transpose tool, and all other things, like the possibility to sculpt using drawings too. very powerful features there!
I think that ZB3 will allow to completely model characters of every sort all within the same Z app !!
exciting!! :)
