Zskiff-a-licious!

10 years already? Wow it’s hard to believe. It sure doesn’t feel like ten years. I didn’t realize so much time had passed until you mentioned it Mike and then I had to look at when I signed up and dayamn my ten years was this past January. I remember the first post I ever made. Still can’t believe I posted that SPOC  Glen Southern was the prime inspiration for me to pick up Z and start doodling. I wonder if Ron Harris is still lurking about out there. I miss the good old days of the IRC chat and the Monday night challenges.

First off, congrats to you as well for the ten year tenure! Its funny you mention prime inspiration because after seeing your image when doing 3D software research, the ZBug bite me and bite me hard. I so wanted to make this! The Z 1.23b demo could download fast enough!

Do you remember the million questions I asked you about this? I even used it’s kinda feel to make my second entry to the 3D passions contest for Z.

Man, if I knew what kind of journey this would take me on over the years, I would have laughed in my own face.

Great times man, great times.

Gotta add Aurick to that list MTB since before he was a pixologic machine, he was out here working the forums. Mentat7, nice to see you again old friend. I think I still have the material offer made for his first bike model lol, not to mention the ken Brilliant script. Here’s to: looking forward to another 10 years with you all. Cheers

BTW, teaser update. Three cubes, all Z low poly modeling. Next, low poly zsphere flourish and more TransModeling!

You are very right! Matt is key. Pretty much the lynch pin!
I could never forget that either. Once again, speaking of inspiration
and journey…it was Matt who told me about the 3D Passion contest.
I had been on ZBC a few weeks and I specifically remember him saying
that there was only week left in the contest and I’d better hurry.

Changed my life. All this history would not be here if it wasn’t for him.
BIG ups to Mr. Yetter!!!

    > Thanks man. And an early Congrats on your 10yrs! I remember 1.23b like it was yesterday. Certain things have just stuck in the mind. Ken Brilliant's Alien script, Monday Night Challenge! RonHarris and his beautifully unrelenting festival of zombies images. The irc chat room for all Z users to talk and share and hang. All the people who said we were fake wannabe 3d artists and Z was terrible and would die. Pshaaw! The few days when monstermaker came in to the chat and asked like three questions and bailed. Didn't hear from him in a month, next thing you know we see him on the top row being interviewed by pixologic. We had no clue we just taught Rick Baker all our good tricks. And we were proud to share! Trying to hack and crack ANY image made by Ofer. Anyways asking, how the hell did he do that (which still continues today, thank you). When Lonnie made me a Z trophy image for cracking the distressed Z look Ofer made. WOW, that was a GREAT week! And don't forget about DeeVee, Ztevie Rae, The Namek, Jaycephus, Grub, MrBraun and oh many so many others....

Yeah, That was such a magical time. Then again, it has always been a magical time here! MAN, 10 more years sounds awesome to me.

  • Wow, I can remember the days, in school, learning 3d software... Maya was under lock and key, Lightwave, Strata, Cinema 4d, Max were accessable. Spent countless hours box modeling in Lightwave and Cinema and then someone showed me Zbrush and i was floored. I didn't have to extrude poly's to make the nose, neck, arms, legs. I could use Zspheres!!! I could use the standard brush!!! Oh hell yeah!!!
  • I remember people knocking Zbrush for a while, but at the same time i remember people using Poser to render images and calling it thier own work and they still do. Just visit Renderosity...

Mahlikus, your contributions here are enormous and I am awe-inspired by your work. Not to mention all of the Old-School Zbrushers you mentioned!!!

Happy Birthday and Happy 10th at Zbrushing!!!

 Thank you!

I remember that 1.23b start screen ! Today I would probably go mad if I had to click past a start screen each time I opened ZBrush. But back then I would sometimes pause at the start screen and wonder how Ofer made that image with the tools available. Then I would get an idea and just run with it. Hours of fun and satisfaction !

Ofer’s occasional artwork was definitely key in making me dig deeper and deeper into the ZBrush toolset. But without Matthew’s and all the other ZBC user’s help I would probably be a few steps behind.

In any case, Happy Anniversary Mahlikus !

Ofer is the standard and I am glad that after so long, he is still the innovator that we Zeeks have come to love! Also, I might not have said it buddy but you too are on the nostalgia list. I am SO glad to see you here and thank you for your kind wishes.

The video of Ofer creating the Deep Sea Fish (remember that) is what made me pull out the plastic and buy without a second thought. If it could do that, I had to have it. I did not have a clue at that time what polygons or a normal were. Now my computers are littered with all manner of 3D stuff and my pockets a little less full.

Great brushes and thank you so much for them.

As always, thank you and you’re welcome! I remember very well. Here is the image…

And, to this day, you can still download the movie here!

=)

It is because of this image and movie that I was able to detail my alien in a similar fashion.

This project by Edit* (Ofer) inspired me to create a futuristic bike myself  zbike.jpg
Z-DOOfinal.jpg which btw also uses the same material used for Edit* (Ofers) bike seat  Thanks mtb corrected now

Wicked Nice! Man, this Z time machine is super double plus fun! lol
Who else wants to share their moment of Z discovery?

PS - I soooo wanna see Ken Brilliant’s alien and the Alpha Centuri Zscripts again! :frowning:
I miss those awesome ZScript journeys. Another magical thing that only Z can bring.
Seeing is believing…remember?

PPS - That’s Ofer’s ZCycle.

Late happy b-day, dude! And yeah, those were really great times. Zbrush was kind of alien software and people here struggled to realize how to work properly with it. It was surprising to see things like Meats’ pieces unraveling. Everyone had their jaw dropped with each new innovation in Z use.

Me, myself, still think that the route the software took, to be a pure sculpt app it wasn’t the best route. The way it was used, to produce 3d illustrations using the 2.5d pixol concept was way better. And pretty unique.

And this make guys like you, Meats, Glenn Southern, Antropus, Strike and many other my heroes, for your efforts and for sharing your knowledge. We have to thank all of you for desmystify and show us how revolutionary Zbrush is.

So, thank you for everything, man! And let’s go for more 10 years of Zbrushing.

Thank you very much!
I am honored that you put me up there with those Z idols.
Never thought of myelf that way. I still feel like a noob who
is just sharing what he finds. I can’t wait to see what we
will all discover in the next 10 years. :+1:

As for the lantern, finished the mesh. Now time for A TON
video editing and VOR.

Here is the final mesh!

/QUOTE]

In 10 years we may have a zChip we put in our ears that lets us sculpt by thoughts and mind control the way zBrush comes up with innovation lol…they are amazing at what they can develop.

LOL, whatever happens, I’m totally game! :+1:

So most of the editing is done.
Tutorial should be about 30 minutes or so and all in one video.
Even though Transpose modeling is utilized in this tutorial, it is
actually more of a culmination of old and new Z features.

Keeping it short and sweet, here is an itemized list of details:

  • ZBrush Workflow Enhancements using Hotkeys.
  • Custom ZBrush Menus for increased workflow speed.
  • New Transpose Modeling functions with low poly assets!
  • Whatever your brain can glean from what I am showing you!

I will do my best to have this available to you within the next 36 hours.
Funny thing is this, I have been up the past 36 hours so I hope to rock
out a nap and finishs this fast enough so our Z community will have a
new/different foothold on the functions available to them within Z!

Cheers!

~MAH~

Don’t kill yerself… rest up, and deliver it when you can. We’ll be here waiting.

Thank you so much! I will.

Speaking of will, here is a teaser of the splash screen.

Cheers,

~MAH~
