ZSceneManager plugin - (SubTools folders)

Objectnames in maya can’t lead with a number, it allows only letters and underscore as the first character.
maybe that causes the renaming.

That fixed it, thanks!

Hi max

First off let me start by saying that it’s a great tool and my work would be impossible without it!
I have a few issues with your plugin:

I’m using the pro-version 1.7 on ZBrush 2018.1

First problem: Often when I turn off the visibility of entire groups, parts of the group will still stay visible in the viewport, even tho they’re marked as invisible by the plugin. Updating the tree doesn’t help. Sometimes I can fix that by selecting the entire group including group name and turning visibility on and off. Doesn’t always work and I have to turn them off individually with the ZBrush Subtool list.

Second issue: I have three groups that I can’t rename for the life of me. They reset to a generic eg. “Group51” as soon as I update the tree. Moving parts in and out of them doesn’t fix it.
The same groups I can’t rename I also can’t stack into each other / create a hierarchy with them. They fragment into separate groups again as soon as I update the tree.

Furthermore I have trouble understanding the naming logic. This isn’t an issue with the plugin, I just don’t get it. When I export subtools as .obj their naming goes something like “Pectineus_47_47a_3_musclegrp1”, while inside the plugin I simply named the subtool “Pectineus”. So it adds all those numerical values that indicate the position within the plugin tree to the naming when I export and I don’t understand what that’s for. Since when I import them to Maya those numbers are of no use that’s apparent to me. (There’s no difference whether the “Maya compatible naming” option is on or off)

Those are all minor things, nothing that keeps me from working, but it would be sweet if they get fixed.
Other than that great job with the plugin.

Thanks for reading.

Hello Max,

first let me thank you for zscenemanager, it’s one feature that I miss the most in ZBrush ^^

Now to my problem:
Zbrush keeps freezing, if I use zscenemanager in combination with zadjustor. I saw that the problem is already known, but did not find a fix for it. Is there a solution?

I’m using ZBrush 2018.1, zscenemanager v1.7 and zajustor v2.0

I’m looking forward to your response ^^

Second issue: I have three groups that I can’t rename for the life of me. They reset to a generic eg. “Group51” as soon as I update the tree. Moving parts in and out of them doesn’t fix it.
The same groups I can’t rename I also can’t stack into each other / create a hierarchy with them. They fragment into separate groups again as soon as I update the tree.

I’ve been able to fix this issue by dissolving all affected groups and making them new from bottom up.

I’ve found an export problem: I’m not able to use batch export of .obj. When I select multiple subtools and choose export selected as .obj the program asks me for real life dimensions in centimeter or inch, but once I selected one of the options, nothing further happens…
I’ve tried to find a folder that the program may throw the .obj’s into without notification (kind of like in GoZ) but couldn’t find any.

PiMo:

  • The First Problem may be caused by a SubTool remaining selected in ZBrush, for this reason the other SubTools in the group are invisible where as the selected SubTool is still visible in ZBrush because it’s selected in ZBrush SubTools list.

  • The naming logic is because I have not found other way to store the grouping hierarchy. The grouping information is stored in SubTools names.

  • I hope to find time to fix the obj export soon.

Zazie,
ZScene Manager is still incompatible with zAdjustor. Due to technical limitations, I have not found a way to make them compatible.

Hey all,

Z Scene Manager 1.8 is released!

  • It fixes the compatibility issue with ZBrush 2018.
  • Obj export was broken. It’s fixed!
  • FBX export was aborting with huge scene. It’s fixed!

You can download it here : https://exoside.com/zscenemgr/zscenemgr-download/

AWESOME. Thanks so much! :D:D:D

Tried the free version. 29$ being quiet a lot I had to try it first.
I saw the window once. But no subtools at all visible in it. I clicked on refresh list, the window disappeared.
Now, even if I restart ZBrush, “Reinit Window Position” “Close”, etc : nothing happens.
Cool.

Hi hansolocambo,
what is your OS, ZBrush version and ZSceneManager version?
Is ZScene Manager’s window behind ZBrush ?

Hi all,

Love this plugin. So helpful. I did run into a little snag, probably with my workflow, but thought I’d ask if anyone has an idea. I have subtools with layers set up on them. I then "merged for sculpt " my subtools and moved and rotated them into place. After that, I exited “merge” so the rotation and translation would be applied. However, now when I adjust the layers the subtools translate and rotate back into the original position. Is there a way around this? Is there a way to have “layers” be local? I know you can bake the layers but I need to adjust layers after moving. There is a progression I have to show in my subtools that takes rotating, translating and layer “morphs”.

Thanks in advance for any insight!
Dan

Can you tell me if the ZSceneMgr.exe is a 32 or 64-bit application? I am running a UGEE 2150 Tablet monitor and I have noticed whenever I have ZSceneManager up it disables my pressure sensitivity. As soon as I close the main application window, my pressure sensitivity returns (minimizing doesn’t restore pressure sensitivity though). In the past I have noticed that this is usually due to a 32-bit app running or having focus.

Has anyone else had this issue while using a UGEE/Huion style tablet monitor?

Thanks!

Well it appears that ZSceneMgr.exe is a 64-bit program too. So I am stumped as to why when it is open I loose pressure sensitivity with the Ugee 2150. Hrmm… If I find a workaround I’ll be sure to post in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Thanks!

Has anyone else experienced ZSceneManager messing up the names of the subtools. It seems to be fine for awhile but the more I use it the more the names keep getting messed up. It seems to randomly swap the names of the subtools. Great tool but becomes a headache after awhile.

Seems an amazing plugin from the videos.
Installed the free version to test, launched it, it was doing something for a while, a black rectangle appeared, then disappeared, then nothing. Windows 10, 64 bit, ZBrush 2018.1, 32 GB RAM

The file is admittedly huge, 4 GB, 374 million points, with couple hundred subtools. But that’s why it would have been so cool if the plugin worked.

I just installed the plugin, however when i have a file open it crashes every time. If i clear the file and restart the manager works but it still says [FREE] in the window. shouldn’t it say PRO if I bought it? I looked up in the instructions and it says it will activate automatically.

Is there a file size limitation? I have to deal with high poly subtools at my company so i hope this isn’t the case.

oops I guess you do need to activate, The section I read was for upgrading only. I’ll follow the video link and hope this fixes my issues!

Yes, you need to activate with your License Key.
In ‘PRO’ (paid) version, there is no size limitation!

About “black rectangle issue”, when ZSM doesn’t launch anymore, making a full reset can be a solution. it’s explained here : http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?198711-ZSceneManager-plugin-(SubTools-folders)&p=1236247&viewfull=1#post1236247

About “messing up the names of subtools”: if you see something strange appearing with names after multiple actions (renaming, grouping, moving folders…), doing “Update Full Tree” acts as clean up and may fix the issues.

Forgot to give an update, everything works perfectly! this plugin is worth its weight in gold, I’m surprised it hasn’t already been implemented into zbrush as dealing with the subtool palette for years has always been a headache when you have 80+ subtools.
