Good point about the 8-bit formats. I hadn’t thought about that.
That 3D stuff is miserably complex. I am slowly getting the hang of it…
slowly… Next thing I try to tackle is animation (primitive…). Another few hundred pages of lingo and mechanisms… I hope soon comes the point where art comes back into the game and it’s not 100% technology 8-).
Greetings!

PS:Then there is 16Bit RGB and 16Bit Greyscale… and 32bit… and HDRI… ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
for some reason, i can’t connect the PC version video tutorial. can anybody help? thanks alot.
Works here… Maybe right click and save the movie?! The MAC Version is not sponsored any more.

PC version works fine on a Mac if you have the latest QuickTime installed. You will need a WMV codec; either Divx or Flip4Mac WMV Player 2.1 which works well.
http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/17787/WM%20Components%202.1.dmg
http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/20727/MacDivXPlayer_1.0.dmg
also check VersionTracker.
(all free downloads).
If that doesn’t work I can put the Mac version back up again.
Acmepixel, I tried both but it’s not working on my Mac. Thanks anyway
Hi Bas,
sorry it was not working. I have re-uploaded it to my server. The same link, as in the first post of this thread, should be working now.
Hey Downloading at the moment. Thanks, it works well!
Now let’s see what Bas comes up with

Chad:
"I was still getting issues with this until a co-worker pointed out a feature in the Wacom Tablet properties that I never knew about.
Open up the Wacom Tablet Properties. Then double click the Intuos icon at the top of the window. Select the Recognition Data radio button. (Default is Standard Mode). Then click OK.
That should help you out. It worked for me… so far! lol
It seems like every time I “think” it’s working, the pop always comes back with a vengeance.

Here’s a test with a maze sphere created only by displacement. i.e. just use the generated maze as a displacement map on a plain sphere in the renderer.
The maze was generated in the Gimp, and the render was done in Gelato. I think Gelato handles > 8 bits per channel, although the Gimp doesn’t.
I think this method has some merit for making nice curvy displacements (like text). That way you don’t have to worry about chunky displacements due to geometry flow that doesn’t match your letters. I’m sure there are other cases where it would be easier as well.
Zbrush still lets you do a lot of neat stuff quickly that you can’t do in other programs easily, and that’s what it’s all about.
Thanks for looking
edit
I got a question in a PM about the map and sphere, and in case anybody else wants to know the answer…
The maze is 1024x1024, and I don’t think the sphere much matters because when Gelato subdivides, it creates a true curved surface. In this case though I just used the sphere command, which creates a nurbs sphere in Gelato.
Both the Gimp and Gelato are free, so you can try it if you like.
i can’t download the tutorial.
Can someone upload it pls?
Thx
Sorry for that, will be up soon. My ex-isp has simply vanished on me and my clients… Since then I am re-instating websites and clients again according to priority. I have my OWN hardware in a datacenter now and am gaining speed right now. And this tutorial and my own stuff… has a low priority. But I will get around it this long weekend. Thanks for your patience.
Cheers
