ZBrush4?

Why this, why not that? How, when, what, Bitch bitch bitch. You ladies need to stop complaining and stop being cynical. Do you have nothing better to do than borrow trouble from tomorrow? It is what it is and we all will wait and see August. Now if you are complaining because it is part of your companies workflow or the lack of functionality and availability ties into your money, I understand that. If this is the case, work with what you have available or go get something else. Everyone and everything has flaws, setbacks, complaints, and many other issues. EVERYONE! Man up and be positive. If you can’t then you have bigger life issues to worry about then Z4. Especially considering the upgrade is FREE!

Ingrates.

The only thing I have ever wanted out of ZBrush is poly handling and modeling tools. A combo of Wings3D, Silo, and C4D. That’s it. The more I stay in the Z environment, the better. I wanna Sub-D in Z.

Mikala - sure is. When I see bunch of supposedly grown up persons, that can only say “WOW! I CANT WAIT! YOU ROCK! FTW! I ALMOST CRAP MY ONLY PANTS WHEN I SAW THAT NEWS!”, then only one word comes to my mind. Kindergarten.
Compare how release of new Modo is handled by Luxology with what we can see here and you will get idea. Nothing else to say in that subject. You seams to be uninformed and happy about it. Good for you.

Hmm sub d modelling in zbrush would indeed be hawt  :+1:
But not like the ways we know. subd moddeling without worries about Smoothing results the topology gives.
Uhhh yeah neat idea

Superb news! I’m looking forward to seeing what new and wonderful things are in-store for all of us (well, PC users anyway) with the new release.

I could have a bit of a whinge about this and that but when it comes down to it… I love using Zbrush and am so happy to have bought a copy several years ago. If I hadn’t I wouldn’t be in the job I’m in now. And just as I feel like I’m properly getting to grips with it… they go and bring out a new version.

When it comes down to it, all software has issues (although I’m told Houdini is close to perfect). Zbrush is still a joy to use.

MX

Well let me tell ya’ “jumping ship” from ZB to Mudbox would be like jumping from a kick-ass yacht into a leaky rowboat, have fun on your new “ship”.

Autodesk and Adobe could learn a thing or two from Pixologic.

Can’t wait for ZB4.

The problem that I have is that I purchased a full price Mac Version on a promise that it will be the same as the PC by December 2008. December has passed and I am still using a piece of software that is buggy and does not have the same feature set as its PC counter part.

Thank god Pixologic is not a public company. They would be flat broke by now. The only people they have to answer to is themselves… and they know it.

I hope they create a proportional overlay using a user defined unit. It would be nice to take out some of the guess work of figuring out how many heads tall a character should be, or how long a limb needs to be too looks right.

i just can say one thing: WOOOOOHOOOOWWWW!!!

i mean… is this right: a free update for registered users? WOHOW!!

Yep. It has been this way for ZBrush owners for over 7 YEARSand people still haven’t the scope to not complain. C’est la vie hu.

yeah i would like to see the workflow more like traditional clay like how you cut off slabs with a knife or a wire i was thinking this could be done with lasso selection it would make getting harder edges more accurately defined plus i also think it would help with with getting better structure more easily and this could be controlled also by masking what areas you don’t want to be affected this would also make it more easier to get stronger foundation and silhouette when blocking out shapes i think a knife tool would be great and speed up the workflow a bit when blocking in foundation…
also would like to see mirror selection or symmetry selection would make easier for getting symmetrical poly groups and selections poly by poly selection would be another nice feature…
also a much needed auto save feature so when zbrush does crash we can recover and go back to exactly what we were working on before the crash…
also a more accurate unified skinning with out shooting vertexes like we have now…
also real time deformations when moving the slider in the deformation pallet would be another nice addition minus the crashing…
just figured i would add to nickz list…

but all and all im sure that you will come up with something out side the box like zbrush 3 was to zbrush 2 in terms of creativity and expression when it was released.. I will be looking forward to what zbrush 4 will offer in terms of workflow and tools and new features...

Another thing I would like and I feel IS a logical next step is a true files save on top of Z’s current saving structure. Basically saving an instance of everything in the program’s environment. In addition, maybe a dialog box also saying, “would you like to package the documents lights, materials, and tools?” Or, “Would you like to include GUI colors and settings?”
This type of thing would help with sharing between users, packaged files for bug fixes, and even a companies gui environment for easy distribution and continuity between workers.

And when I say Sub-D modeling, I include edge loop modeling functions and tools to better model the base mesh. I mean serious edge loop controls. Edge ring cutting, rotating edges, collapse.

I don’t mind having to wait for a full upgrade especially when it’s free. And actually I’m pretty excited about that. But as a Mac user, I was hoping to recieve what was promised in the line of a Mac version which was supposed to have had most of the problems fixed in a point update.

To find out that what was to be expected a few months ago, now to most likely be pushed off until August or beyond, is a bit of a let down. I’m hoping that a point update to the Mac version might be still on the way. I have my PC version, but it’s on my laptop and my Mac version on my new computer is faster and can handle much higher polycounts, but it crashes much too often during renderings among other things.

But you can’t expect people to just sit down and not express their disappointment. I do however expect people to understand how those here could feel disappointed and not get on their case for expressing that disappointment.

And here’s a thought. Just because Pixologic makes the cool decision to make it a free update now, doesn’t make moot the responsibility they put on themselves when they announced they were working on point update fixes. I love ZBrush. It’s my favorite app in my toolset. But I’m still entitled to feel some disappointment when assurances of a point update will most likely not come to pass.

And I’ll leave it there as far as that’s concerned.

i’m not a moaner - ZB4 is gonna be cool we all know it, but that’s only in august, IF it is released then.

We are not living in August 2009 or mid 2010, are we?

I’m talking about releasing the 3.5 version that was promised to us :frowning:

I can already tell you that in 2011 we will have ZBrush 5!! now who’s excited?

I’m excited about the release, but I hope they show a vid or something soon of some new features or even just a preliminary list of what what might be coming.

One thing I really hope for is more accurate shadows. Maybe in the form of a better rendering solution.

I've been dealing with my own disappointment with them for over 7 years. So I do feel you Kraken. I guess then, it is safe for me to say, about me, that no matter how upset and let down I get from these guys...they are worth it and so is the wait. These many years taught me to be patient and understanding with them even if I do wanna take my online fit. There is a difference between expressing your disappointment and being overbearing. To demand answers and bark about jumping ship? For, those...sorry but, get some perspective. I personally just don't do that anymore. Which is why I also say don't borrow trouble from tomorrow. A Mac fix may still be on its way. They didn't say it wouldn't. Who knows. And as for those thinking calling it 4 is some ploy or something, once again, you are assuming. How do you know that in trying to fix the mac and trying to finally develope both versions together required an architecture rewrite so they might as well call this new and improved ZBrush version 4. So finally, from now on, there is no lag between os releases.. Would be a nice dream..maybe not possible..lol. Point is, nobody knows. So, express your disdain, don't bash cuz your pissed, and lets have hopes and dreams for what Z4 brings in August for BOTH operating systems (WE HOPE)..lol

this is great news !!
how about having the layer sliders affect material opacity and rgb levels ?
maybe i should start my christmas list now…
prosthetix

I imagine the reason they changed the name from 3.5 to 4 was that a full version update would be a bigger announcement to make at Siggraph given all the delays in its release has pushed it back to August.

Richard

who says they did?

not sure I trust Pixologic on the deadlines for ZB
what I’m sure off, though, is that this update is going to be MASSIVE
because all their updates are.

Heheh… I love this forum!
Truly, I have ditched most of the forums I used to follow because of the ammount of lamers who had nothing better do do with their lives other than bash others and show nothing for it…

The fact that a simple announcement like this causes such a stir points to something cool: ZBrush users are really passionate about the tool!
That being said, I’d like to congratulate Pixolator and the Gang for that. It is not an easy feat to gather so many passionate customers, much less to please them all!

And they have managed to keep this forum tidy and running sharp, creating a sense of community and collaboration that is hard to see in other places - despite the few unavoidable sour patches and quarrellers here and there.

I like the sense of competition stirred up by Mudbox. It is healthy for everyone.
But I appreciate what a “small” company like Pixologic has been able to do, how it’s been able to hold itself together despite the hardships and stand up in front of a mammoth like Autodesk backed-up by honest innovation and the passion of the users it has gathered to itself.

That’s the kind of story I like. And that’s what this announcement has reminded me of. And by making this a free upgrade, they just underline the message that this is a different company from a lot of them out there - they care.
Sure they are in this to make money! But they are telling us that it makes more sense business-wise to deserve the loyalty of your customers first and foremost. That’s wise long-term investment.

So, let’s stop bickering and enjoy the anticipation!
(And Ofer, please don’t make us wait too long for the videos! Hehehe)

Cheers guys!

Gus.
