Zbrush At Siggraph - From My Perspective - Day 12

Its very nice to see how well the siggraph 2006 on main site has been put together with all videos and detailed infomation about the new features of v.2.5

Incase anyone missed that.

Hi Ryan and everyone else

As usual I got hold of this post late :rage:

I need to applaud the efforts of pixologic team to make new zbrush enabled with features coming out of our dreams. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Sub tools means no messing up with multimarkers any more

Extraction enables us to create geometry within seconds which we sit down and carve out in many hours in the present version. :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

We can select Layers without losing the edit mode ??? Woooow :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
How many Btw ? Max limit of no. of layers ?

Enhanced 3d brushes and use of different alphas and textures while modeling. :bulb: :bulb: Man there wont be any fun left in modeling then    but we will see more hollywood movies getting completed sooner for sure. :+1: :+1:

Polypainting will be a boon for illustrators like me, who do not want to go through the mess of uvs and its seams. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: Double cheers for that. Anyhow will it be undoable or simply removeable just like removing a texture ?

mesh projection is another angelic feature, no need to carve out those muscle curves everytime on every model, just copy paste them
Kind of a cheating but will save time lols :+1: :+1:

I am not able to download the rig movies from pixologic.com ( Or should I say I am not able to download any movie from that page except viewing them online with my cursed internet connection) and in this post theres no link for the rig movies    Common Ryan thats what I have been waiting for till now – and I am unable to download it ? :-1: :-1:

Ok these are all about 3d works - What about 2.5d painting.

If you remember there are few goddamned creatures :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: like me, Mytholon and many others who use zbrush mostly for paintings and illustrations.

Any updates in the 2.5d part ? Even your assurance will do if no movies

But triple cheers for all of you working on the next version.

Just do us one favour do not take another year to launch the next version.
I am already jumping on my seat. It like seeing a christmas cake - wanna eat it but its half a year away. :red_circle: :red_circle: :red_circle: :red_circle:

Very nice, but like what was said previously, are there any enhancements for illustrators???

Renderer tweaks, Lighting tweaks, 2.5D tweaks, 2D tweaks???

Thanks for pointing that out tez. The link also talks about the “old” new features which is nice to know that they’re still around.

Sorry if this has been asked or answered. I looked through and did not see it. Can you mesh project onto a mesh you bring in? Or only the one created in Zbrush?

You can also BYO!
Lemo

It will be interesting to see the limits. I doubt you could project super average man onto your Super Star Destroyer for instance.

Although it might be fun to try.

Meshprojection, GREAT!!! :+1: :+1: :+1:

mesh projection looks amazing

congratulations pixologic!!

Mesh Projection does indeed look sweet. Thanks for the extra movie Ryan :+1:

// Looks at collection of Sphere3D sketch models. “Don’t worry lads. There is hope for you yet.”

Is this meant for adjustments to the base mesh (which is sweet enough in itself) or can you use the mesh from an entirely different model? - I’m thinking also of faces here. How accurately will the projection work with the edge loops around a mouth for example if you try to use the mesh from a figure you made a year ago?

My guess is that it works best when the base geometry is pretty similar to the original but hell even so … no other prgram I have heard of can do anything like this as simply as this.

Amazing!

I could be wrong, but reading through some comments here - I think some might be getting the wrong impression of how Mesh Projection might be working. I think one of the factors in this technology is that as you’re actually building the new model (with it’s new topology), you’re doing it over the old one which you (and ZBrush) is using as a guide.

That’s quite a different approach to loading-up two different models off disk, and expecting ZBrush to “project” from one to the other. It’s important to remember here, that Ryan demonstrated using an existing model as a guide to build your ‘updated topology’ model.

That’s amazing stuff, and sensible. But don’t expect to be able to load-up, say, a human and a dog - and “project” the human’s details into the dog’s topology.

Like I said though, I could be wrong - wonders never cease here

As Ryan showed it was perfect for its function. I would load a old model, say! one I made a year ago which had bad edge flow, and build a new topology, then project the details that I had done upto that point where bad edge flow would have limited me to detail further. I could then continue to detail with my new model but lower poly count due to better topology.

This would also be ready for animation, so not only could I make a new displacment map with extreemly high detail but its ready for animation from a model that could have never been used normaly.

Now im hoping that I can apply the projection to a devided mesh so it retains its lower devided levels so I can still export a low polygon version which I asume is so, or at least optimize the devided mesh. This feature is so powerfull  .

Just imagine making a realy fast zsphear character, redo its topology suddenly you have a workable base mesh created extreemly fast. All you have to do is sculpt, mesh extract clothing or Items then rig, texture and render.

Hello. Just a quick note to clarify some confusion.

You can create your topology directly in ZBrush or you can use topology created outside of ZBrush. Your choice.

Have a good weekend.

Ryan

I wasn’t thinking dog! Just wondering how far “another model with completely different topology” could be taken. Very exciting!

It would be great though if you could do a partial projectioin, say hide the body and head of your character showing only the face and then project the face onto a creature or indeed a dog pmsl. Is that possible Ryan?

Can you project a sculpture of a figure made using one base mesh onto a completely different figure? Let’s say you have made two men. The one with the bad edge flow you brought into zbrush and tuned into a masterpiece, can you project your good sculpting work onto the base model with the good edge flow or do they both have to somehow start out the same?

It would only make sence I suppose that they would both have to be in same pose and posess the same volume in order for the detail to be applied to a new serface. Polycount and edge flow dont matter.

I would love to know how far it can be pushed!

Really, really amazing!
Cassandra, your wish is granted methinks

Goes of wondering what a Tyranosaurus would look like projected into a Lambroghini Countach
