Zbrush At Siggraph - From My Perspective - Day 12

what a great app Z2.5 will be  …!!

-are you goin to post more videos or was the 4 day video the last one?

-also Ryan, can you please talk about the perp, camera when sculpting?..would it be the same as the mav version of zbrush 2?..
please give some INFO about it, a perp. camera is really important to me when sculpting, and i think to many others as well, Kris Costa, Zack Petroc and others have mention their desire to have a real perp. camera while sculpting.

sorry for ask the same question a thousand times…but i keep asking because i never had any asnwer

These new feature look great. And as with most people, I can’t wait to start using the new ZB 2.5. The only thing that I didn’t see was the Model-Rig capabilities that were shown with the Road to ZB 2.5. While this is also a great feature I am sure most would wait for a later release if they could start developing (playing) with the new features sooner. Did I mention that I can’t wait. Ok you got me, I can wait, and I will. I love the rock solid stability that I have with ZB 2.0 and look forward to the same with ZB 2.5.

While I hope there are real perspective options (that don’t stretch your projected brush strokes), it’s actually not so bad if there aren’t.

My experience with the Mac version and its pseudo-perspective fisheye distortion is that, while you wouldn’t want to model in it directly for any length of time, switching back and forth to constantly evaluate your work is no more disruptive than swapping between ZSpheres and Adaptive Skin.

Likewise, the PC version actually does allow you “evaluate and go back” control, but with no easy way to toggle between modes. Unless someone’s made a ZScript, anyway – it’s not what you’d want, but it is all you’d need.

I mean, it’s not perfect, but it gets the job done. And it does so now, in v2.0…

I very much hope they eliminate the need for this workaround. But at least it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they don’t.

Thanks for the movies Ryan :+1:

After a long day at work I had the time to watch the movie ‘Leon’ and for dessert a lovely movie about 3D Layers. That has got to be my favourite feature and, to quote Gary Oldman, “I am DYING to meet this guy.”

The whole idea of strokes, alphas and textures incorporated into Edit mode has me all dizzy. The part with the Drag Dot stroke with an Alpha (?) made my day.

Hope you enjoy smooth sailing from now till release.

Thanks again Pixologic :+1:

ps. As someone mentioned, Lasso selection!! Luverly

Thanks for the video Ryan,
look forward to the new additions to an already amazing Zoftware.

3D Layers? … Did I hear right? Blows. Me. Away.

The new features just seem to keep coming. This seems more like Z3 than 2.5!

I almost crapped my pants when I saw the mesh extraction video.

Could high res 3D modeling get any easier?

“I submit that it can not!”

Wow! Teaches me to not check on this forum for 4 days! Firstly, thanks Ryan and all the Pixologic team! There are tools here that would make any artist drool. And, yes, eating cake is better than just looking at it, but I’m sure when its out of the oven we’ll all get our slice.

Hello Ryan
Are you saying that we will have this speed and poly count boost on the machines we are running on now?
Thanks
JIM

What more they will invent? Please, that the zb never makes my models without my help! Marvelous new features:+1: :+1: can’t wait to play with that new toy
Congrats to all Pixologic team

I’m very excited, as this all looks very incredible, but I’m also trying to be a bit catious in my excitement. I was completely sold on Zbrush when I saw Pixologic demo just about half the 2.5 features we know about today over a year ago at the last Siggraph, and after being informed by the floor salesmen that the upgrade to 2.5 would be free, I bought the program on the spot.

Well, it’s been a year now, and I still don’t have the tools that aparently, some other lucky artists/testers are already using. As a paying customer, that part does upset me quite a bit (I’m only human). The even newer features I hadn’t seen back then just look absolutely amazing, and they are going to completely blow open my workflow, when I finally get my hands on them. I just hope they don’t add up to furthered and major delays in 2.5’s release. Honestly, I don’t think I can wait much longer without feeling a bit upset and letdown. Please, at least give us some sort of time frame Pixologic, it’s wearing a hole in my feable brain…

At any rate, excellent demos, the new tools look rediculously fantastic. I can’t congradulate you enough on that and as is obvious, I can’t wait to start using them.

And another vid! I got up early today just to see it! Layers… clicking detail on and off, that goes beyond real sculpting! :+1:
You’ve done it Ryan; now we’re all sitting here bouncing on our chairs in unbearable anticipation. You guys take a welldeserved rest now…
AND THEN WORK LIKE HELL TO GET THIS NEW ZBRUSH TO US!!!

question aside: how many people are working on Zbrush actually? Is Pixologic a large or a small company?

Yeah the new layers are rediculous. Just out of curiousity, since I know Pixologic likes to push a feature throughout the entire package, are there now layers available for painting textures as well? Not a big deal if there isn’t, just dying to know If not, would be a very welcome feature for 3.0.

They’ve actually been pretty careful not to say one way or the other, same as last year. I don’t think we’ll get system specs until they’re at final release candidate – too much can change 'tween now and then.

Out of curiousity, did anyone happen to ask what they were running at the show? And get a straight answer?

Go back and read the text surrounding those videos, silly. I’m surprised you don’t have it all memorized yet.

I should mention that layers also store RGB information so that as you, say, add scales to a layer you can store the scales texture as well. This can then be turned on or off with the layer. Pretty cool!

I bought Zbrush 1.13 pretty cheaply in 2000 and six years later I’ll be getting 2.5 (which is really 3) and I still won’t have paid one cent more. Plus there is without any doubt the best set of online learning documentation of any software.

When one looks at the minor updates to programs like the CS suite or Painter and their exhorbitant costs, it is very difficult to complain about Pixologic’s propensity for not giving more up to date info on releases.

Helll Yeeaaa

Thank you for posting videos and report
My hearts was beat faster 3 Days.
Now I go back to routine modeling and waiting…

Praise the Pixologic-Team for great new features.
We all hope we can use it soon :small_orange_diamond:

The machine used for the demos was running x64 with 4 GB of RAM. I don’t know what the processor speed was.

Actual system requirements will be made available when the version goes live. We’re not going to leave the average user in the cold, however. Remember: we love hobbyists and professionals, both!

Ryan, do you have any links to Taron’s new After Effects Pluggin for ZBrush?
