Zbrush At Siggraph - From My Perspective - Day 12

LOL @CTRL-Z for the dissertation! Like we care. But thanks anyway.

CntrlZ do you work for Zbrush?

Because request for Videos if possible are address to Ryan since he is the only one posting Videos and he started the thread. I am sure when he has a chance he will post what he can when he has time. I fine with whatever he can post an can not.

Please let him respond to our request and not you.

lol! unlike me CTRL-Z, you have gone out of your way to be civil, informative and a peacekeeper, and look what it gets you…

FYI: Ctrl-Z does NOT work for Pixologic and much of what he has said is purely speculative.

Much of what is new in 2.5 represents the fulfillment of many MANY user requests from both hobbyists and studios. We have been listening carefully to you, our customers. And we remain extremely dedicated to making sure that 2.5 is a phenomenal release.

The fact that 2.5 will be a free upgrade, even after all of these new things have been added, is good evidence of just how highly we regard our users. So is the fact that Ryan and I both spend a lot of time watching ZBC and answering user questions (sometimes for the hundredth time or so).

Please keep the dialogue on the subject of the new features, rather than speculation over release dates, Pixologic’s motives, or what have you. We do have good reasons for doing things the way that we have. I have also regularly made statements on here that we will announce release dates or estimates when we have something firm to say. Unfortunately, the fact is that I can say “no news yet” five times a day and many people will still not see it. I therefore spend my time on the forum in more constructive ways; like answering usage questions in the Q&T Forum.

No, sir. I work for the greater good of all those around me.

Pleased to hear it! Part of my concern was that you might feel ignored if the videos don’t reflect that you’ve asked for specific things.

Well, “asked” might be the wrong word. It’s not like you used question marks. Or the words “if possible” in that context. Nor was this the first time you called for proof that the features demonstrated in previous years are still there. And in the time between those requests, Ryan mentioned that he’d read every post in this thread. Which means he’s read your request, and will either grant it or not.

You say you’re fine with either outcome, so why repeat yourself more forcefully?

And, why get angry at my response? I quoted the request, repeating and bringing more attention to it. If Ryan missed it the first time or the second, it’s much harder to now. I mean, if this is truly just between you and him, my intervention can only help your cause.

Right?

Please make your requests via PM and not public appeal.

Your current method, whether intended or not, has an anciliary mob-rallying effect which I stand opposed to. I'm sorry this annoys you, but the PM approach does prevent that.

So lets stop asking about the realease date. Lets concentrate on something more productive. Sculpting for example.

Thanks Aurick.

I have no problem not talking about a release date. Of course that leaves very little to be said about anything coming in ZB2.5 as there isn’t really a lot of usefulness to posting about features that are subject to change in an unknown period of time before they’re released.

I’d rather the conversation get back to what can be done in ZB2, since it’s the only Zbrush worthy of discussion at the moment unless you happen to be beta testing 2.5.

i have a question.

Why is this release being marked at 2.5? Do you have bigger things planned for 3.0 release? (yes or no will do  you dont have to say what it is).

Judging by the features shown already the tools shown have so many workflow opportunities its almost like a totally newand improved Zbrush. Im not expecting the number to change or anything just wanted to know why.

cheers guy, hoping for another video release.

Well, I’m hoping the feature set is frozen so that they can just get the bugs out and release it. If I were managing the project, I’d certainly do it that way, but I’m not, so who knows?

It was speculated a bit earlier in the thread that the reason it’s still called 2.5 is so that Pixologic can keep its promise about a free upgrade (since upgrading across major version numbers traditionally costs money). Don’t know if that’s their actual thinking, but it’s probably the best answer we’re gonna get.

furrykef: ahhh makes sense, learn something new everyday. Cheers mate.

oh had another question, is projectino master gone, because i kinda wish it isnt the only reason being, if the 3d texturing isnt able to do sub-poly painting (not just block colour), then how can we texture if we dont want to go upto 10-20 million.

cheers

DAY 4 -
An update has been posted in the first post in this thread and… a new movie! :sunglasses:

Thank you everyone for making Siggraph 2006 a huge success! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Boozie! Thanks for the laugh!

yeehaw!!

Layers look great… non linear work flow is going to be a huge plus. :+1:

Thanks Ryan for the new Video!!

Excellent stuff. I cant wait to try them out. Never been more glad that I kept hold of something than now.

Cheers

Mike R

I m very excited about the new features, non linear sculpting alone is a huge time saver. Great news. :+1: :+1:

Woohoo! I won’t have to plan out models as much! It looks like you can do almost everything except animate in zbrush now. Are their controls for selecting individual vertices, edges, edge loops, and faces? Sometimes the geometry can get all funky and its hard to fix in zbrush than.

man, it’s gonna be a whole new ballgame!

I am sooooo excited by the new features in Zbrush 2.5, my mind boggles with the possibilities. It`s great to finally have some solid information with regards the new features and I can only hope that a release date will be announced soon (if not, then this is the biggest tease in history :o ).

These are exciting times…Zbrush 2.5, Silo 2 and Vue 6 infinite…that`s a hell of a lot of potential power waiting to be unleashed. It will be interesting to see where these new tools will take us.

Keep up the good work Ryan :+1:

Oh, and Pixologic

Well I won’t be getting mudbox for sure now. It doesn’t do anything I won’t be able to do in Zbrush 2.5 or silo 2.0, oh and Zbrush 2.5 is free and silo 2 is $50 (whoop de doo) where as mushbox will most likely cost at least several hundred dollars.
