Zbrush At Siggraph - From My Perspective - Day 12

Glad to see that the upcoming Zbrush got some awesome new features in its sleeve! Can’t wait to play around in Zbrush 2.5!
About all this Mudbox talk…
Everyone I know who betatests Mudbox keep telling me how easy the interface is. So that sounds now like MB’s big advantage, and do not underestimate that advantage, considering a lot of new potential customers will be adviced to choose Mudbox instead. Of course, MB’s price is not out in the open yet, and the price will be a determing factor for many.
Personally I do not find the zbrush interface difficult, but I admit it was a frightening sight the first time I laid eyes on this alien interface. I remember just thinking “why?”, why make it so different then anything else… I also think that in many ways it is a total waste of time for a customer to have to learn to do a lot of the basic things. I feel I mastered it quite quick, but I know a lot of people who just gave up, and I know more who are decent Zbrushers, but still have a lot of issues with the interface. Many of these people will probably switch to MB (again, if the price is right).
I did not try the previous version of Zbrush, but I’ve heard Zbrush2 got quite a drastic change of UI from the previous one. So I hope Pixologic dare to make such a drastic change again. There is a lot of real good things in the current Zbrush interface though, things like holding down control over buttons to get a description for instance… That is something other apps should pick up…

Strange, Do you mean it does not work?
I’m running XP64, and Zbrush works like a dream.

This is what I like to see. Tidbits here and there to keep us rolling along. It is a nice change. Once again I am feeling excited about ZBrush. I am looking forward to having fun again.

Exciting stuff guys… I did wanna ask about the intergration of plugins… Are things like Zmapper, zapplink, ADE… part of the app and no longer plugin modules?

As a mac user at home i’m still waiting for zmapper, and hoping I can get zapplink working in 2.5. So I’m hoping 2.5 addresses these things. All the new features look great, its a good time to be a modeler.

Yes it runs if you have up to 2 GB of memory. I have 3 on my machine and it wouldnt run.

WOW! I can’t wait for this update to come out. I’m gob-smacked by the new features. :expressionless:

I can now see how they did what they did on POTC. It was puzzling me the amount of detail that went into the model with only using ZB2. But now I know. :) MX

aww, they’ve got Zack Petroc playing with zbrush 2.5 on thursday, talk about putting power in the right hands!! hopefully he has been beta testing 2.5 all along and has provided tons of input.

what are the odds of Ryan spoiling us with another two videos later today?

1 in 1.

“The armies of the night are 60,000 strong, and tonight they are all after the ZBrushers.”

I suppose that the ever suffering pantheists must be content to tolerate the solipsistic bleatings of the ‘I want it nows’. Happily enough I’m taking names, and one day they’ll take their place on the growing base of my grunting, ‘Truman’ award statuette.

no real perspective, still looks and feels just like z2.0

Ryan has confirmed all the previous mention tools are included in Z2.5.

Hey, I cant get the vids to play in quick time… Says I dont have the right compressor… Can someone tell me what compressor I need?

Thanks,

IC

Do you have the latest version of quicktime?

Software implementations are at the bottom of the page

There’s also another way to get around that problem (sometimes):

Try right-clicking on the movie file, and then choose to open the file with MediaPlayer instead, and if it warns you - just choose to play the file anyway.

BTW I’m running Windows, not sure what you’re running.

You should get VLC media player…it plays everything…and you don’t have to install any codecs…and there’s a version for just about every OS imaginable…

I would also recommend VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Im trying everything… Dont quite get the Wiki thing. Tried the left click and nothing… VLC here I come…

Thanks,

IC

and I love you guys to… Thanks for the help!!

IC

no problem =)

After watching the vidoes im still not sure if

A. Can a single mesh can contain up to 20 ish million polys, it seemed the 6 was around the limit of a single mesh ( on a 32 bit sys, Im assuming only on a 64 bit due to ram limits)

B. a single mesh can have MULTIPLE TEXTURES or not.

C. And are you really in 3D they kept saying it, but it looks like 2.5D still, which sucks.

The above is from Ryans first post. He says there is perspective.
