ahh…thanks for that guys…it just seemed wierd that painting without uv’s was a selling point…when uv’s are integral to every model.
if you can bake that to a texture then it’s all good
I believe 2.5 will be out within 6 months. I highly doubt they will push it another 12 months. Ryan has already implied somewhat that it will not be out right after Zbrush. Since he said you can buy Zbrush 2 after Siggraph and upgrade for free later.
2.5 Looks great it should be only a few more months at the most.
Does there need to be a difference? When so many people struggle with the concept of UVs, with texture sizes and transferance artifacts?
New videos, yum!
johnny blaze:
that sounds sketchy to me…
last years siggraph I asked ryan kingsley at the zbrush booth when 2.5 was coming out…he said in the the next month or two. A year later…and still nothing? it seemed to me a year ago they had a stable enough version to run demos on all day long with no crashing…
adding all these new features is just like pouring salt in an old wound that never healed!!!
man…
here’s to hoping it’s coming out at siggraphs end…
because this is unrelentingly painful.
those 2.5 videos were posted originally two years ago.
two years man.
another year of this and I might as well drive nails into my legs.

I was just trying to be grown & mature about this, but really I want it yesterday…
Thant you for the 2 new vis. The new sculpting tools are great.
Can you post some showing the layers ?
Couldn’t hurt!
Oh, wait. Yeah it could.
Ooooo!! New vid’s! Those sculpting tools look totally wicked. Eliminating the ProjectionMaster step is a great idea; makes everything more interactive. Texturing in 3D was one of the main reasons I bought Zbrush in the first place (I later discovered that that was just a small part of all it could do). To see it done live now makes it a dream come true.
Plz Ryan, more vids tomorrow? (if you can still stand on your deet by then :D)
Cool. Thanks for shaing the videos.
Having multiple textures for objects is going to be very useful.
Mesh Extraction appears to be like a souped-up more friendly version of difference meshes.
Looking forward to the new release.
Awesome!! Mind blowing stuff, new vids are great!! Like everybody else, cant wait to try it out in the flesh
Sorry is this was asked before and I somehow missed it but… is ‘poly painting’ just a form of vertex painting?
I was just wondering 'bout that as well.
I doubt it’s just vertex painting though, otherwise why call it poly painting?
They probably have some sort of algo’ going where it takes info from each vertex of the poly, allowing for painting ‘inbetween’ the vertices (painting into actual poly space).
I’m just holding out for that vid’ of 3D layers - that ought to be quite something
I hope you’re right on this. The potential is enormous - imagine a situation where your renderer of choice can handle this. No need for UVs, no distortion problems, no texture maps. Interesting huh?
It’d be magic, for sure
The only problem would be finding a renderer that supports it. That said, now that all this multiple-object and perspective handling has been announced, it’s starting to sound like I could easily get along with it as my main renderer - so that’s great!
vertex color painting is asigning a collor to each vertex so each vertex can have its own collor and this way you can paint on the model.
theres only one problem it looks realy crappy on a low polly objects
but i think what they ar implenting is that you can do vertex collor painting first (22 milion pollys makes a realy nice detailed vertex collor map) and then you can bake it in the UV map.
the advantege of this would be that you could create a vertex collor map and then chanche the UV vordinates for example and still bake the vertex collor map in that.
or you could use it to create high rez and low rez versions for UV mapping in games.
hey _Dado, can you tell us please if zbrush 2.5 have a “REAL” and complete perpective camera while your sculpting?....a "REAL" perp. camera while you
r sculpting is really really IMPORTANT
as for the release date, given all the flak they’ve recieved for the (currently) one year delay, I doubt they’ll announce anything until it’s actually packaged and ready to go
however, it’s not like they’ve haven’t added things during this one year period. the feature list is already amazing, and there may still be more to come.
and for those asking, ryan confirmed that the previously shown rigging and retopology tools will be included in 2.5.
my GUESS is that they’ve been working close with some top special effect company (ILM?) during this period and have tried hard to make zbrush work as well as possible with the requirements of such a production environment. either way, this year delay have definately not been wasted time. bear in mind that innovating is ten times harder than “re-inventing”.
Pixologic sets the standards once again. in my opinion Ofer is the John Carmack of 3D Modeling.
Obviously I don’t post often even though I make use of Zbrush heavily…
All I can do after seeing the new features in action is drool… I can’t wait for this update, keep up the incredible work
Regards,
CorDox
I want to express my gratitude to you hard working guys and gals at Pixologic.
You all consistently advanced the industry with you incredible innovations.
I often hear people complain on these boards about the delays for 2.5 being
released to the public.
Although I can understand the frustration, I hardly believe that this was an on
purpose or deliberate act on the teams part.
You all are running a business and as such it is obvious to me that it is in your
best interest to release the best product possible.
In fact if you did rush it, people would scream bloody murder. You’d hear complaining about how this could be better or that sucks.
It’s a no win situation.
It’s with this in mind that I say I CAN wait.
For those who keep threating the end of Z-brush or are ready to jump ship to get muddy.
Go, please by all means do…
This reminds me of that old story of the kids in the car.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we there yet? No.
It doesn’t matter how many times you say it.
If you’re not there… well.
Enough, about the release date.
It'll be ready, when it;'s ready.
Great job all, looks amazing.
Cheers

I haven’t used ZBrush now for a while, due to the fact I have a 64-bit system.
This is great news and I’m looking forward to using ZBrush 2.5 when it’s available.
Great video’s by the way.
