***** ZBrush 4.0 Unleashed!

I think it is more the perception that this is a poorly managed release.

No doubt that the actual product looks good. The issue is that a tiered roll out of upgrade codes is somewhat strange. Can’t Pixologic acquire extra bandwidth during the release? Additional mirrored sites and more resources during this time will have created a lot of goodwill with their customer base.

As it stands now, this week of waiting is a very negative experience and could have been avoided.

You can still customize the UI, you just have to press both ctrl and alt now to move buttons/etc around.

Just a question in general, but how has everyone else’s experience been with ZB4 in regards to it’s stability and not freezing and such?

Thus far I haven’t had some of the common Lazy Mouse freezeups when using an alpha. I used to have these freezeup 2-3 times per day but not one so far. Is everyone else in the clear with this? Also switching some settings while having a rendered frame doesn’t cause it to crash either.

The only crash I’ve had so far is using spotlight, but it’s not so much a staple feature like lazy mouse, so it’s not a huge deal.

Arcanox, please use the appropriate forums.

Because we’re all hopeful to get it early.

I haven’t got my email yet

Using Mac ZB 3.12 until now, this is a massive update! Everywhere I look there are new features, ShadowBox, ZSketch, brushes and endless possibilities. A huge Thank You out to Pixologic and beta testers!!

Being able to read the whats new pdf is awesome! so many good things

Can’t wait to try shadowbox!

Perhaps this thread should be locked, with a notice about where to go for specific issues or questions posted. Most people that have the program now are off using it. It currently just seems to be a lighting rod for attracting questions and people with activation issues that the mods have to remind people on every single new page that they’d like them to post elsewhere in order to get the proper attention.

It would be nice to have a “chatter” thread where people can discuss the new features and such, but I don’t think you can have that without getting the other stuff too in the present hectic environment. Let’s face it…nobody is reading any of the previous pages. It seems like a waste of support’s valuable time and energy to constantly have to redirect people, and it’s probably frustrating to the people with legitimate problems as well.

Im sorry to say this, but WHY THE *** isn’t there a true 64bit version already???

This have for me and everyone I know been THE biggest problem with Zbrush since like 3.0(as all artist got and use more than 4gb since then) and as the only real limitation for Zbrush is the ram it would seem logical to focus on fixing that.

You guys could atleast adress this issue instead of just ignoring peoples questions about it so we know what to expect.

I don’t want to as I really like zbrush, but I will have to switch over too, ughh, Mudbox if there won’t be a 64bit version anytime soon.

So far, it seems very stable, but I haven’t gotten to do to much with it yet. Kicking the tires mainly. Trying out the new features, all the new brushes, and such. So much to catch up on since 3.2!

(as all artist got and use more than 4gb since then)

Yeah, uh, no. I only have 4, Steve Warner who made that awesome looking tank only has 4. I get the point and agree a 64bit version would be nice, but don’t make it sound as if every artist is running a 64bit OS with more than 4gb. They don’t.

EDIT:

Just a question in general, but how has everyone else’s experience been with ZB4 in regards to it’s stability and not freezing and such?

Some areas are stable and work well. Others are very crashy (Spotlight+Lightbox), and there are some quirks with certain tools.

Not answering you is =/= ignoring your question.

If it were a magic button “fix” as you put it, it would already be done, Im sure. Clearly there’s more to it than that. I suspect quite a lot more in the case of ZB. So the most they could tell you is what you already know: it’s something being looked at internally, and they can’t give you any promise of when it might be ready.

By all means make whatever decision you need to about what tools work for you and which don’t. But don’t be an ass, especially on top of another great free update. If you actually wanted any chance of getting a response, I guarantee you this isn’t the tone that will get it…at least not the response you want.

I think they would be working hard on a 64bit release, but I imagine the most important thing for them would have been getting a consistent version out between both the Mac and Windows platforms and then start from there as a base model.

Remember its’s ZBrush 4.0

I tested ZBrush 4.0 new tools yesterday .

Really great release imo :+1:

The news tools make the work really fast, all work fine .
It’s faster than 3.5, and most importantly : more solid .
No crash for now, even while playing with tools like a crazy guy lol

GoZ is really great  Can’t wait to see the XSI version, for now I’ll use it with maya ^^

Thanks Pixologic

No crashes on the mac version, two days now.

I’ve run for about 14 hours straight for two days in a row now, without a single crash on Win 7 64. My activities in the program have been limited to sculpting and modeling, though.

As great as many of these new features is though, let me tell you…being able to save project files is worth the update by itself. Just save multiple tools with all their subtools all at once, all your brushes, textures, alphas, open in back up, and pick up right where you left off. It is a godsend, compared to the rather fidgety way we’ve had to mange file assets all these years. It really opens up for real “scene” files, so you dont have to cram a billion subtools into a single tool, to work on a “scene”. It’s just a bunch of little usability enhancements like that that are making this my favorite Z update ever.

Can’t wait to get my hands on Z4! Hopefully before the weekend is over. Thanks to Pixo and happy bday!

In the meantime for those with me in the waitingroom, check these 2 Zbrush related vids on Gametrailers:

I too am waiting for the magical email, so I was wondering if they were being sent out as a daily batch or in smaller quantities through the day? In other words, is it worth it to check email all through the day, or know that by a certain time of the day (other than midnight…) that all the emails for that day have gone out?

Also, I know this is a new release, with lots of new features and there is unlikely to be a new book out for awhile on ZB4, but can anyone make any recommendations for any books already out there that do a good job of at least covering 3.5?

Thanks.

amazing how in 3 days , barely anything from new Zbrush4 users has been posted, They’re probably all running on coffee and testing out all the new stuff non-stop

Pixologic - just a question… Are you guys at least working on a x64 version?

This is the feature I want most
