Yes it sounds awkward but may be no more hassle than selecting the layer you want to paint on…we shall see!
I hope not…why would i need to record my paintstrokes…? I am still working on my model so lets see what the steps involved are… maybe if you record your paintstroke and you could edit it or something…
That does sound clunky… but i do hope with the layered polypaint, i can assign my own materials to the layer and blend them
So what you have to push button to paint? In MB you have to push button every time you want to turn object around and people are fine with it
PS - Pixar partnered with Autodesk to get Mudbox Ptex compliant. Would be great to get this in Zbrush as well
Look at 3d-Coat, the new version has Ptex build-in.
this thread is for waiting loyal zbrush user
I would hate something like that…

Maybe you first read my various ZBrush-tutorials and you will notice that I have really spend a lot of time digging in the depth of the ZBrush-features for a long time (since version 2).
But that does not mean that I close my mind against other solutions, and more and more other apps have similiar or better solutions for the basic and advanced needs of this kind of programs (modeling, texturing, UV-work etc.).
ZBrush is still the best app of its kind, but since version 2/early 3, some very unpleasant faults are still unsolved and therefore still present after all that long time. All I say is, that it’s really the highest time to solve this with a near update.
The first step to progress is to complain. heh, Else we would be satisfied with the first version of anything that was released.
I’m on board with GaryCrump and Rastaman.
Just waiting for upgraded user interface, retopo, rigging(transpose isn’t even an alternative for me), better render system( nice, they got that),64bit and if not… at least higher polycount should be a given with 4.0 and extra year release
New zsketch 3.0( or just have it replace zbrush and get rid of the zsketch name) in which you can sculpt with globs of clay, slap and build on some zpheres rig without limitations of polycount(with subtools, painting, importing+converting objects and all). Move those sculpting brushes into zsphere land…so it feels like you are truly building/sculpting something…the ideal workflow. This is what they have to be working on.
New gadgets are quite welcome, but I can only see them as a 3.9 upgrade when the main functionality of Zbrush 4.0 isn’t even being showed to us. I would rather have them show us improvements in what I listed above, then give us the extra treats afterwards. All we can do so far is wait for the release date, or some vids to see what’s what.
-rant- skip if you don’t want to read
Whining about people whining is a bit hypocritical. Freedom of speech. No one is forcing you to be bothered by it. In fact you are choosing to be afflicted by what others are saying. It’s not like they are crossing the line or anything. There are "thought policing " among us. I enjoy zbrush alot, but i’m not going to be grateful and behumbled for some software and free upgrades and what they have done for us. That is plain silly. I thank and congratulate them for their great effort but thats as far as it goes. Idolizing and materialism is just screws you over by halting your own personal progress. No one is above anyone…everyone is equal. Society driven train of thought believes otherwise. It keeps most people down and out, making it hard to grow and show true creative potential in all aspects of being. Just turn on your tv…quite the disgusting act, is it not? There is nothing wrong with asking or complaining. Why should you even have to pay for a planet you are born on? There are enough resources for everyone to be quite comfortable. The news is just fear mongering, just be happy. A new paradigm is among us in which we will share everything for free. The old system does not work is failing as you can no doubt see, I look forward for it to be replaced. Now Zbrush I can wait for, as for me it feels like time is flying by(it literally feels about 10 hrs a day and find it somewhat challenging to get things done lol) faster with each day(as proven to be) it isn’t that long of a wait for me.
gasoil - whining about whining about whining is hypocritical too
I agree. To me they aren’t whining, it’s just what some made it out to be so thats the word I chose. I call it freedom of speech, which is why I wrote it down right after the whining part from the start. It wasn’t my intention to whine. hah, it doesn’t even sound like a word anymore…
So if you think we are all whiners, then it is a true statement. Or your pointing it out to make it seem like I got caught up with what I wrote. I don’t know which is the case. Going to stop…since i’m sure I can all keep going till my fingers fall off and not because of the need to win…cause I find it fun.
-end of rant-
Maybe in 5.0 they come out with a point cloud sculpting system where you hook your brain up and create with thought (in Asia they can already record images from your thought so this shouldn’t be far off)
Whining about those who are whining about others is just as much hypocritical. Is like saying “Intolerance Will Not be Tolerated”.
And it is all not as much about complaining, but about that senseless whining over and over again on same subject. Boring, mindless repeating. Sit tight, we will all see in a bit whats on the table. Then at least I will stop checking ZBC so often and start to play with ZB instead of reading whiners.
Well said Quinum. That sums up the World we live in beautifully or depressingly.
Roll on ZB5 I say, you could work when you sleep. Not enough time in a day.
I’m hoping for improvements in TPose, mainly due to the issues I am currently having after spending so much time creating my first character. Just something that makes it less clunky.
But I’m happy to wait.
Here here to Freedom of Speech. Just as long as it’s polite…
whining about whining about whining is hypocritical too
here we are this is the eternal loop of human ego…this will not stop until someone wins and some other loses…we all write here because of an ego impulse to be heard and understood and the only way to stop it is status quo.
all that has been said pro and con good and bad is real and ackowledgeable…its is true that everyone has differnet needs too…if we keep it simple and not too philosophical heavy i will say that in the end the more approcahes, tools, paradigms the better…Zbrush has been a major vector of energy in a very traditional media…becuase this is what it has become…a traditional media…Computers are today just a normal media…it was high end when it first appeared as cutting edge was the wheel when first invented…we are stagnant now and satisfied with our little workflows…all quads he said and so i do …i dont even knwo why but it feels safe and easy…i only have good comments for a company that at any level is trying to break the mold and move forward and we need simply more of those…more Zbrush more 3dcoat and for anyone out there ready to give a great idea please do so and keep putting pressure and competition wich is the only way to improve things.
I think Mudbox is a great product and hope it becomes evn better with time but please lest not forget that teh main reason that tool exists is because Pixologic decided first to kick the hornets nest of self satisfaction with ancient tools and workflows…this is teh true meanning of a revolution.
peace out

No go… can’t get in… part of the surprise?
Humm… problably I got a moment where they were working on it, and didn’t take care… There was 3 threads only:
Cameron Farn - http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=91473
Magdalena Dadela - http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=91472
And Martin Andersson - http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=91457
If you can’t see, is because they didn’ want I break the “surprise”. But by the way, the time for release these info has already passed.
On the Cameron Thread there’s a great tutorial, showing the modeling of an alien and how he renders it. There’s a new section on Render palete, called BPR. there you can produce Transparencey, shadow, SSS, etc.
On Magdalena’s Thread, she teaches how to use Fibers on ZB4.
Martin’s thread is empty yet.
My spidey senses are tingling!!..
