ZBrush 3.5

It’s a little harsh to call critics of Pixo’s policies “whiners.” I mean, there are a few that come off that way, but I think the general consensus is, that despite whatever OS you’re using to operate ZBrush, I think it’s safe to say that we’d just like to be a little more informed.

Someone made a pretty good point, observing that the “announcement” that 3.5 would be delayed until Q1 09, came out in a user forum in a thread about that subject. Long time users of ZB are no strangers to delays, but why not make some sort of announcement and cop to it rather than just let yet, another self imposed deadline whizz by?

It’s a strange practice they have going on at Pixologic, but hopefully they’re working on some good stuff for all of us.

One more thing to add (sorry).
Based on past experience.
NOTHING that anyone writes here, no matter how eloquent,
will make the people at Pixologic move the time of the update
one minute faster.
NOTHING that anyone writes here, will make them add features
that are not already in it.
As I mentioned before threads like this are common before the release.
In all cases, when the release finally does come, what is put out
is always better than expected.
In all cases, any type of time announcement has basically been way
off the mark.
What this does accomplish however is bad feelings among members
that sometimes lingers on.
If you read the past couple of posts, you will get a sense of where
this type of thread is going.
This one, however is unique in one respect, it is taking place at the bottom
of the forum, where all is allowed.
Usuallly they move it here after they close it and the combatants
are bloodied.
So we would probably be permitted to beat the crap out of each other
over that which we cannot control ,for a longer time.

I live here.

Happy New Year, Peace among Men (women too!!!)

“threads like this are common before the release”

So if we do a bit of reading between the lines (or across them or another odd way you can think of) this is good news: a release is coming.

If you really want this thread closed start the dirty mudbox talk.

I once fondled Mudbox and I liked it.

That’s why I asked. You’re post sounded like something a PC fanboy would write with the “whiny mac users” theme, did it not? Nothing gets on my nerves more than PC or Mac fanboys, so sorry for the assumption kid.

I could understand you saying it got thrown out the door untested if they had released it back in December of '07, when everyone had already whined about it for months. (been a ZBC member under a few email addresses/names since the pc zb3 release, 3.1 user since April) Mine arrived in October.

It's hard to believe they just threw it out the door to shut everyone up. If anything, they held it back for months while suffering the ranting and raving about it. How they screwed up, is still a mystery. I bet it passed the testing, and something went wrong after the fact. They introduced a new feature - PUV tiles, of course it was tested. I'm sure the last thing they wanted is to raise more hell out of their Mac user base by putting out a buggy release. Maybe something got corrupted during the last stages when finalizing the damn thing? Who knows, not us! That's the only bug I've had with it. Otherwise, it's been stable and solid for me.

Mudbox licked me.

I ate two day old sushi and my undies turned into a mudbox…

my undies turned into a mudbox…
can you sculpt it?

Interesting post from a well know Zbrusher I spotted regarding a zbrush dvd they released for free…

Hopefully somebody can find some use out of them before they may become irrelevant due to the new versions.
I’m personally really excited about Zbrush 3.5…

Sounds interesting and sometimes some searching of the net can pull out some potential jewels of info.

Thanks Mike…

Could you also show where the list of newbies etc. of 3.5 is displayed?

Regards Ziggy

i know someone noticed in one of Rick Baker’s videos when he was using the beta that the stroke palette was not disabled as it is now, so hopefully we’ll be getting that back.

Yea , I heard about the new release of 3.5 (in the last quarter of 2008!!!), I hate to point out that it’s now 2009 and I’m still sitting here with a useless version of 3.01 that refuses to work on my RAID drives…this has been going on now for so long I’m thinking of switching to another app…NOT because I want to…just seems that nobody is doing anything about this problem and all we’re getting is empty promises…sorry to sound so negative, I LOVE Zbrush but I do need it to work!!!

 in a few you would get some advise like “so do not use RAID - problem solved”.
Remember - here is no place for critic of any kind. If someone will post some ridiculously ugly “artwork” you cannot say so - it is making you rude and close minded, sometimes even jelous. Instead you need to say “good job!” or “I like it! Keep goin’!” - that suppose to release full creative potential from one I guess. Its like seeing child stepping into the precipice and encouraging it to do so. I know it sounds crazy but thats how it works in the modern, politically correct forums.Likewise if something is not working you DO NOT criticise developers DO NOT MATTER WHAT! Its really importand to remember that before people remind you - “you are getting update SOMEDAY and is FREE. Stop whining, you surely do not know 0.000000000001% of full zbrush potential!”. Criticism of developers is considered as blasphemy here.

So what can you do? You can just wait in sort of emotional coma, waiting for the word from GODS. Ow, and those gods can lie. UPS, did I say lie? I mean… play with you, gives you time to resolve problems instead of resolving them for you - now dont tell me that isnt educational!

:+1: :+1: :+1:

Keep it positive! Pixologic will surely let us know before the end of this decade. Well, lets hope so…

My friend, you have amazing insight. Thoroughly enjoyable read, and quite true :+1:

I couldn’t agree more…miztli

2008 seemed to worse than usuall with every dog and his god bashing the forums with OT topics and beginer work, and believing it to be “awesome”, despite criticism.

As far as 3.5, I’m sure we all remember the ‘wait’ for 3.0.
IMO 3.5 will arrive as soon as autodesk announce another feature in mudbox, then pixologic will pull their socks up.

BTW I don’t recommend using mudbox…(if you can avoid it)

In theory boths apps are supposed to function in a similar way…but the tools in zbrush actually ‘feel’ more like you are sculpting with clay, instead of sculpting with a computer.

Like trading in your light saber for a block of cheese

 All I want from 3.5 is for EVERY tool to work 100% no new features are needed. Zbrush already is the future now…no need to bloat it.

I agree. To boost someone’s self esteem when they don’t deserve it is to set them up for failure in the long run.

:qu: 3.5 :qu:

The rule of the forum is to be polite, friendly and helpful toward one another. Any feedback, including criticism, can be delivered in a positive and helpful way, or in a hurtful way. We have no problem with criticism. But make it positive.

Too often we see people who make a comment that’s basically, “Well, that’s amateurish.” How does that really help anyone? All it’s going to do is discourage. Compare it to something like, “I can see that you’re learning. Here’s a good anatomy resource that would help you out: (link).” This sort of feedback is more than welcome. It’s not giving faint praise. Instead, it’s speaking the truth in a way that will help the other person grow.

There’s nothing politically correct about that. It’s just human decency.

Make criticism positive… Hmmm… That brings memory of scene from “Robin Hood - Men in tights” when Prince John is asking Rottingham “Maybe, if you tell me the bad news in a good way…it won’t sound so bad?:+1:

“I can see that you are learning” … Well, excuse me when I DONT  You guys trying to do some kind of graphic version of American Idol sometimes. Like this bit with William Hung

“Youre the best, yeah, thats good!” LOL Well, suit yourself man… :+1:
I will positively… not.

Now, since Youre here - can you give me some tutorial about "how to be positive toward Pixologic and its “say nothing” tradition? Come on, give me some hints how to accept with a smile on my face fact, that first I hear from Pixologic “there will be new version before new year” and then not only nothings shows up, but I hear “in next few months we will give you… date of release”. I am eager to hear how to keep positive vibe, peace and love when developers of my favorite app are clearly ******* with me. Bring it on man - be positive, supportive and INFORMATIVE, will ya please? Since you have already bringed on “HUMAN DECENCY” subject…
