ZBrush 3.5

honestly they don’t really have to give us an explanation. they say it’s coming, so it’s coming… does it really matter when? they’ve pretty much got a lock on the entire sculpting market (yes, there’s mudbox but every artist I know who uses mudbox also owns ZBrush). Every update they’ve ever released is free… I don’t understand why everybody always gets so antsy.

just relax… you have the power at your fingertips to create awesome works of art, just look at the top row. feature X is not going to all of the sudden make you rembrandt, so pop open a beer and chillax :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t believe people are complaining about a free release!!

I never said I didn’t appreciate the Free release…I just hate the rollercoaster ride we get taken on everytime there’s a new update. Ask all the Mac users how much they appreciated the ‘Update Joyride’ they got. One would have thought by now that the process would be implemented a little better. Don’t make an announcement unless it can be met. I wouldn’t say anything if I didn’t Love ZBrush. Besides it’s just smart business - the lack of credibility will hurt their reputation and future business if/when another application comes out if Pixo can’t meet their own deadlines.

You don’t get it do you… the mac users are whining now because pixologic DID give them an update. The mac users whined long and hard enough about ‘not getting updates with windows users’ that pixologic just threw something out the door to shut them up. Unfortunately it’s a buggy mess… personally I don’t want that happening with 3.5

so why don’t we just all sit back and let them make a solid piece of software so we don’t have to whine about an update patch right after they toss it at us?

the lack of credibility will hurt their reputation and future business if/when another application comes out if Pixo can’t meet their own deadlines
I think the official policy on this one is “We’ll burn that bridge when we get there”

Whaaaaaaa whaaaaaaaa wheres my binky? mac (whiners with bugs) vs pc (right hand of god)   the endless trash talk makes me laugh every time.

If you research for awhile, you will find that threads like this went
before any update to Zbrush.

A few threads were even closed down because of the lynch mob
mentality.

The exact same critiques were thrown out in exactly the same words
by probably the exact same people.

Something else was the same also.

After zbrush issued the update(s), there was another thread
flowing with praise and offering to wash the floors at Zbrush Central.

Face it, great program, free updates, fantastic forum, staff works
hard to help everyone equally.

Missing something? Maybe patience?

I cant believe that some people cannot uderstand bloody simple thing that 5 years old kid would find out obvious…

It all comes down to situation:
Pixologic - “hey, I have a really great gift for you, an update to your favorite app! I will give you that around the end of that year, OK?”
Naive User - Holy crap! Thats AWESOME, you know I am spending HOURS daily with your soft! So whats new?!?!?!
Pixologic - …
Naive User - ow, ok, I got it! Its like a surprise, right? ok ok!

few months of patient, whine-less waiting later

Naive User - Hey guys so… ummm… Tommorow is like the end of the year, you know… umm… Not that I am pushing or anything but… Whats going on?
Pixologic - …
Naive User - Guuys! Anyone?
Pixologic - …
Naive user - wtf…!?
Pixologic - …
clueless FunBoy - I dont know how people may complain for something thats FREE… Pfff…

Bottom line - take your time Pixologic and DO NOT inform us oficialy about nothing. Ocassionaly you can share a word or two, hidden somewhere in forum, nothing too fancy - you know the drill. Or wait - make it like a game! You know - like those point-to-point, scout games. It has already good start - “somewhere around 1st qtr we will tell you when would be next time that we will tell you about next time…” and so on, and so on. Isnt that fun?! Once again you came up with a great idea!
And its all FREE! Jeez! I am goin’ to put some diaper in case I **** myself in that thrilling time!

If you’re smart enough to go there :

You’ll notice that Turntable Plus exist for OSX …
… and you just have to install it.
I confirm it works !

Not directing this at anybody in particular, just a point of discussion, but the common thread I’ve noticed over the past five years is that the whiners are usually people looking for a magic button that suddenly makes them awesome. The professionals are all using the tool as it exists and are creating top row artwork.

Everybody knows ZBrush has bugs, but the people who know how to actually use the program are working around them (except the 3.12 users who actually have some crippling bugs… but I digress).

We had this same song and dance before Z3 came out, and back when Z2.5 was announced (and later renamed to Z3). The whiners came out in droves begging (no, DEMANDING) Zbrush 3 to be released. And when it came out where did they all go? Probably off creating masterpieces with their new magic awesome-button! If that’s the case I still haven’t seen anything from them (not to name any names, but the old timers around here likely remember what I’m talking about).

I just lost hope that some people EVER will get that whining IS NOT ABOUT APLICATION AT ALL but at Pixologic team and its “make a promise even if noone asked you about it - and never keep it. Keep your mouth shut doesnt matter what” policy
Apparently is too hard for some flatline-minded people to get it (yes - start to whining that I offended you LOL).

I totally second that !
Whining is a professional job for some people …

I see that development can sometimes take longer than projected given the issues that can arise. Inevitably, we all win with the new update because they go “all out” with each version of Z-Brush and it’s free as an update, even better.

I can say that when 3.5 comes out I will not have mastered 1/4 of what 3.1 is capable of doing.

I’d say they didn’t throw something out the door to shut us up fella. They delayed the release a freakin’ year while working on it, and put out an update that was intended to be beyond 3.1. In many ways, it is.

The crippling bug that we need a patch for is exporting displacement maps. The one thing that enables ZBrush detail to be rendered in other 3d apps. We're not talking a bug in the 2.5d furry brush. So before you go calling out people for being whiny, use your brain and think about what a whiny post that is. We're talking about a true pipeline killer. Are you sure you're not just another one of the lonely Mac vs. PC fanboys? As a professional user of both platforms, I gotta tell ya, they're only computers. Don't get confused and latch onto one like it's your favorite sports team. Crazy kids. Otherwise, I too hope 3.5 comes out clean and stable, no matter how long it takes. For now, though, it would be nice to use ZBrush outside of just Photoshop postwork within a Mac workflow.

I won’t deny I want a button that makes me awesome. Who doesn’t? But I would like to see some improvements to zspheres… I’ve bumped into a lot of glitches. I don’t know why I bought a zbrush license… I don’t use it sadly. It has great things going for it. It’s just painful and inflexible for me as an artist. But latelly I’ve been enjoying 3dcoats awesome voxel tools. Too bad it has speed limitations. If only zbrush had voxel technology. That’s going off subject. I totally agree with your perspective and am somewhat guilty of what you are accusing the whinnng crowd of. I want my tools to be better. I want less techy stuff and more artistic freedom. You are totally right about the people who are complaining for the new release to come soon. I’m not using zbrush even though I own a license. I want to use it, I really do. But regular pencil+paper and some wire with a whole lot of super sculpy offers a greater deal of freedom for me. I still check back though hoping for some new workflow or improvement to the software.

3dcoats is using CUDA already isnt it? hint, hint.

Why don’t you read my whole post before you go off on a rant? I acknowledged that 3.12 is essentially useless. All I said was that it was incessant whining that got it thrown out the door untested, which is the absolute truth. If you can’t see that you’re blind (either that, or you just registered on the forums… which I see you did. Welcome to ZBrushCentral!).

Regarding your other point- When did I ever mention PC vs Mac? Hell, when did I ever even mention PC? I actually use Z3.1 on an intel powerbook via parallels. So maybe you should spend a little time on the forums actually reading posts before you jump in and start making assumptions and drawing conclusions, “kid”.

time to thread lock 10…9…8…

OK…I’ll bite.

First off who are you to criticize anyone? Your post comes across as a tad bit elitist. Sure I am not a ‘PROFESSIONAL’ and I haven’t posted barely anything here because I am a serious hobbyist (with dreams of someday becoming a professional) and don’t feel as if I have anything worthy to contribute. If ZBrush is solely a ‘Pipeline Pro’s only app’ excuse me…show me how to get a refund and I’ll deinstall my ZBrush and disassemble my workstation and let the ‘Pros’ do your thing without listensing to my ‘whining’.

As for the ‘magic button’ comment…what’s the big deal then right? Why even do an upgrade to 3.5 (besides money, increased capes, better stability, faster renders, etc). All the ‘Pros’ are making masterpieces with 2.5…heck Meats and several others could do top row material with the ZB beta.

(Sarcasm)

Please disregard all my posts Aurick…I apologize for wasting everyone’s time…I am not worthy of 3.5 until I make top row with ZB3.1.

/sarcasm

I am not complaining about bugs…just the fact that sadly the good old Pixologic ‘bait-and-wait’ technique of marketing wins again. Here’s a carrot…its a really sweet carrot…here it comes…almost there…‘Psych!’ All I want to know is the transparent truth of what is going on…if we’re not going to see this upgrade any time soon, fine, just don’t keep ‘dangling the carrot.’

I am not one of the old timers…I have only been around for a couple years…lurking, waiting until 3.1 came out because I had to save up the money to build a system and purchase the license for ZB. Again, I thought this forum was full of great people who supported those who hung out, contributed as appropriate, and were willing to learn from the ‘Pros’. Maybe I should just go back to lurking or jsut stop coming back to ZBC…Lord knows trying to help out everyone by asking legitimate questions doesn’t appear to sit well with the ‘Pros.’
