ZBrush 3.5 Status?

I don’t know if this has been asked lately so I just wanted to pop in and find out the status. I don’t remember if you guys said it was going to be first quarter 2009 or last quarter 2008… Hope all is well and looking forward to another great release.

Cheers,
Thomas Goddard

My unofficial sources suggests that “soon” is the current comment (which can mean anything from 1 week to 28 months).

I guess it is high hopes to think that ZBrush 3.5 will be wrapped up under my Christmas tree tomorrow morning.

I went to the mall yesterday and lined up for 4 hours, pushed little kids out of the way and sat on Santa’s lap and said “Santa, please bring me improved UV’s, more projection tools, snap to spline brush strokes and many many new features.”

You know what he said to me?

“Get off, old man”

If it doesn’t come tomorrow do you think I will find it at the Boxing Day sales?

Merry Christmas everyone and happy sculpting in the New Year.

Same here, but we must have been naughty this year.

Least if we put coal under pressure we can make diamonds…

They didn’t release 3.0 till well after a year past the initially announced release timeframe.

So if I were you, I would just put it out of my mind for the time being. Think more along the lines of 4th quarter 2009, and then you can only be pleasantly surprised.

i don’t think its a coincidence that the action hero contest came out when 3.5 was supposed to be released, its a nice diversion tactic though.

Have they mentioned anywhere about 3.5 since that post shown above? I for one have seen nothing of the information that was supposed to be shown to us after siggraph.

Cheers

they did say they would have a “big announcement after siggraph”.

of course it could technically mean siggraph 2012…

It was mentioned that the Mac 3.12 videos would be made to demo the new features, I dont think thats been done, let alone a v3.5. The next update will be both Mac and PC at the same time, so I wont expect to see ZB 3.5 for a fair while yet.

In fact unless im blind as a bat, iv hardly seen anyone showing, or talking about the new features or bug fixes.

I was intested in seing how close you can get to the mesh for re-topology, or weather there was any optimization in this area for projection and project all?

I hate to ask but is there anything official? I know this has been a problem in the past so I am just throwing the idea out there and if there’s any word on the release date, that would be splendid. Happy that Pixo is working hard on this release and taking care in the development process.

Going by Pixologic history, you will not hear anything what so ever untill anything is even close. It took years for v3. I wouldnt bother asking till Siggraph 09 is coming up.

Im realy wanting the fixes more than anything. A redifined v3.5 would be great.

Modo 401 is my area of focus, this helps the waiting game for Zbrush 3.5.xxx

Yeah, I’m delighted to see the upgrade will be free (best…investment…ever!), but please Pixologic, don’t say it’ll be released in the 4th quarter, and then not release it. Even worse, don’t say it and then just ignore the date and don’t give an update on when you expect to release it.

As usual, the silence is deafening.

i agree,
please pixologic, just SAY that it won’t be this year!
just a small comment.

Hi,

The next ZBrush version is currently in development. Information about its release date will be made available 1st Qtr 09.

Thank you for your patience

Happy ZBrushing! and Happy New Year!

Please notice how I am keeping my big mouth shut re: 3.5!!

I got myself in enough ‘hot water’ before, and besides, I’ve got my hands plenty full just trying to learn what I’ve got!!

I’m just tickled pink to have 3.12, thank you!!

And that is that. Now we start a new cycle of waiting for announcement of a new date. Does make one wonder how much of the post Siggraph announcement was true . . . perhaps we’ll here the unified Mac and PC version is Zbrush V4 now and in the meantime, displacement map generation on the Mac will be fixed sometime in 2010. (Just saving time–the inevitable questions of when the flaws in Mac ZB 3.12 remain.)

Certainly no point in recommending Mac ZB to anyone–hopefully the flaws in Pixologic’s strategy of announce and not deliver might inspire other offers in the market. It honestly doesn’t look like Pixologic is taking the issues with their product seriously, providing us only with a “date for a date.”

It’s a pity–a fine sculpting product, ruined by inattention to fundamental compatibility with a pipelne.

Thanks for at least that update Aurick, so I don’t have to watch the forums every day for a release.

I’m guessing team pixologic looked at some of the new mudbox features and said… Hmm… good idea! Let’s add xxx…xxx…xxx and xxx!

There must be a reason for the delay. Good to know it won’t happen tomorrow  But maybe after tomorrow…

Oh, what about 3.12 for windows?

Thanks for the update aurick! Though it’s a strange way to hear it, I mean as a response to a thread on a forum rather than as an announcement from the company. Still, at least now I know! Let’s just hope everyone else reads this thread so they find out too.

I think an official sticky should be posted in the main forum, since many were anticipating some update before the end of the year.

It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, just that new feature implimentation will be taking longer then anticipated.

That said, Mudbox seems to REALLY be trying to grab the zbrush market, and I’d hope pixologic would be ahead of them, since it was released much earlier.
