Zbrush 3.5 First Impression anyone?

Zspheres2: awesome for sketching. Any issues I have with them are more my needing to practice more. I do wish they had a flatten, or planar, option for blocking out more mechanical shapes before I commit to skinning.

Planar brushes: awesome for detailing, but have not had much luck using them for blocking out masses early on. Hard to predict what your going to get. But I am sure they will mature over the next few releases.

Lightbox: looks promising. Won’t need the alpha and texture importers.

New HD features - have not given them a whirl yet. Never got in the habit of using them in the past.

Performance: more poly’s! I have 8 gigs of ram, so I could always get enough, but the more the merrier.

Merge sub-tools w/ seams (ie. Boolean Union): a few more features like this and we should be able to create more complex shapes in Zbrush without having to go to other apps. More please.

Overall: really solid.

Complaints: the sheer amount of brushes gives me a panic attack. It would be great to have a floating custom toolbar (ala Painter) with our favorite brushes. Or better organization of the brushes, for example into function, rather than alphabetical.

Good work lads.

hmm, two reasons that i can think of.

  1. why did you remove the “top popup transform” button from the preferences: interface menu? having those buttons on the bottom means it takes that much longer to go down there and is awkward.
  2. the bright colors of the color box are way too distracting when the popup comes up, it being all greys with orange, and the background of the canvas greys. its just jarring and causes eye strain, especially if you use only the popup for most usage.
oh and don’t forget that if you try to do a color picker click/drag more than once it will crash. 3 or 4 other people have confirmed this in the troubleshooting thread.

I have yet to poly paint, read this bit of info, and ZB3.5r2 does indeed crash. :frowning:

Solution for this bug:

Activate LazyMouse, LazyRadius to 1 and LazySmooth to 1 too.

Hello,
You can not bring a current version .ztl into a previous version of zbrush. Too much has changed beneath the hood
The way to do it:
Take all the subtools to the highest subdivision level, export as .obj’s, then import them into zbrush 3.1. Then reconstruct subdivide on each subtool.

oh, thanks bLawless.

Be well

everytime i try polypainting in R3, after a little bit of work, it crashes…can’t seem to work on it more than 5 mins :frowning:
and it doesnt keep a crashfile so even more frustrating…any one having similar problems?
