***** ZBrush 3.12 - for Mac OS X - Available Now *****

Finally got my ZB3.12OSX running. Congratulations to Pixologic on what appears to be a the best version of ZBrush yet.
I’m running it on my 15" MBP 2.5Ghz with 4GB of Ram and the performance is stellar!
Trying out all the new improved features and the first one I tried was the new improved Zoom.
The press release wasn’t kidding when they said “get to really know your polygons one by one”.
I can finally zoom in all the way as far as I need to, without even needing to hide parts of the model. So pleased about that.
Love the new orientation aware cursor. And the visual grid/floor is a useful addition.
Off to play some more…

Oh yeah! Just bought my home mac version of ZB from Novedge. I really hope I get the link before the day is through out there (it’s only 3:40 on the west coast.) Can’t wait to fire this baby up!

On the downside, my wife may murder me before I get to use it. Not good.

EDIT: It’s here!!! Aw man–I’m so happy.

Whoa–this sucker is fast!

Finally I got my copy and license and it’s running on a MacBook Pro.

Have to relearn everything now…

Let’s see, if I can get some pleasure out of it to
balance more than one and a half year frustration…

At least the installation and registration process has been
without any problems.

And there goes another week…

I’m guessing everyone else has their link by now?

Except me…:frowning:

oh good slashpot, i thought i was left out too. i still haven’t received my link also. i have emailed them twice and never received a reply.

If you’re emailing [email protected], responses are taking longer than normal due to the huge backlog of emails that normally comes with a new release. This is why we also set up the [email protected] address. If you use it for this, you’ll get much quicker response.

thanks aurick, ill just wait a little more, im in no rush, i just thought i was left behind.

I was wondering if it’s possible to sidegrade from the PC version to the Mac version? Does version 3 work ok with pre-intel Macs?
Thanks!

hey wet noodle. no, i have a powerpc mac and it does not work on it. i tried even tho i knew it wouldn’t work. it said: “Zbrush cannot install on this architecture.” and i think you can transfer your license but dont take my word for it on that.

Just thought I’d post this, check the apple website to see the new macbooks and macbook pros. They look cool, and a new 24 inch display is described as well, made specifically for the macbook so you can connect up and see a huge display.

I work on my white macbook, it works really well as is, 3 gb ram, 4 million polygon counts very comfortable ( I don’t need more than 2 million per mesh, so it might go even higher).

I guess this topic has been here already,

I heard that there will be a new version of Zbrush Around the newyear …how will the upgrade work, if i bye the version that are here now…will it be free or am i going to sell another part of my body to get it…

The reason i ask are ofcourse, are if it can pays just to wait…

I got my Imac question answered ,Thanks guys :+1:

Thank you, that’s good to know.

does anybody else feel like a severe beta tester?

They say that membership has it’s privileges.

sure, i guess. just seems like they tried to fix things that weren’t broken…

My experience so far.
3.12 is so good I use it at work now - eight hours a day, for the last few weeks. I run it on my little macbook which I have 4GB of ram in (I ran my DVI cable to a big LCD monitor).

All I need in the way of polygons is two million per mesh, but I have found I can work comfortably with four million, maybe more but I didn’t experiment because there’s no need.

I want the best high res 3D software I can find, and I think everyone has seen the video of Mudbox 2009. It looks great. So I downloaded the trial this morning and played with it for an hour. The reaction time is off. When I draw a stroke and lift the pen it pauses - where as in Zbrush 3.12 (or 3.1) I can drag lift, drag lift, drag lift, and the reaction time is instantaneous. God was that annoying, how can anyone work fluidly with a pause every time you lift your pen. My system specs, 32bit OS, XP Pro SP2 via bootcamp, 4GB ram (3.2) Mac Pro hardware (5GB installed). Thanks for the trial Autodesk, but from the first strokes I’m sticking with Pixologic.

Back to 3.12. It is 95 percent perfect, and I hear updates will come out to get it to 100%. Every little glitch I have run in to has a work around until then. And just so you know, I use zbrush daily for the high res sculpting/hard surface modeling, topolopgy, but not for things like UVmapping/normal mapping/displacement - so I can’t give a review on that half of the program, which is substantial.

I feel pretty good about this release. It runs smooth and really fast on my humble imac at home. It’s fantastic to not have to use bootcamp every time I just want to do a little ZSketching.

I do have a question for other mac 3.12 users though. Have you guys had any problems importing images? I searched on how to create a background image reference, and it makes sense. But, I can’t seem to import a simple jpeg. I may be doing something wrong…not sure.

I tried to import through the texture palette but when I pull up even the simplest of jpegs, they’re greyed out and I can’t bring them in.

I really just want to apply an image as a background for reference. Since none of the older plugs work for this mac release, I’m a little dumbfounded. I’m going to try and use my reference (a basic skull-front and side) as an alpha and see if I can work with that on a plane.

Try a .psd. If you don’t have photoshop to make one, use the application ‘colorsync utility’ to open your .jpg, then save it as a .psd. The ‘colorsync utility’ application is in applications/utilities.

ah! thanks bLawless, that works! I think that’s the only filetype I didn’t try. it’s strange that it doesn’t like .jpegs.

Brought an object I was re-topologizing into zbrushOSX. Could not continue with the work I was started in VMWare XP to retopo. Going back to VMWare XP.
