ZBrush 2 64-bit Windows Version Now Available

Hi,

Even though the release of the next ZBrush version is close (more information will be posted by Pixolator by the end of this month ) we wanted to make a version of ZBrush 2 available to 64-bit users. This version should run properly on most 64-bit systems with up to 4 gigs or RAM. Please note that if you are running other Windows versions - including the 32-bit Vista - or running the 64-bit Windows and have not experienced any difficulties, then you do not need to get this version.

Downloading the 64-bit Version

:small_orange_diamond: New ZBrush users who purchase ZBrush 2 from our website will receive both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions in their download. The executables are clearly named in the ZBrush 2 folder. Run the one that is most appropriate to your system.

:small_orange_diamond: Current registered ZBrush users will need to get a new download link from Element 5. They can be reached at 800-406-4966 (North America), +49-221-31088-30 (Germany) or [email protected]. When calling Element 5, you will want to choose option 3 from the telephone prompt, followed by option 1 and then option 1 again. It will help if you can provide them with the order number that you received at the time that you purchased/upgraded/redeemed your coupon, but they can also look up your account using your name, email address, and other identifying information.

All ZBrush 2 registered users have an account with Element 5! If you upgraded from an earlier version, you set up an account on the Element 5 system at the time that you upgraded. If you purchased from a reseller, you set this account up at the time that you redeemed your coupon code that came with the CD or box.

:small_orange_diamond: If you received ZBrush in the complete boxed set (whether purchased from our website or from a reseller), the CD will not contain the 64-bit version of ZBrush. You will still need to download this version from Element 5, using the above instructions. This applies to new customers as well as existing users.

Important note for speaking with Element 5: Do not tell them that you need the 64-bit version. This will only confuse the majority of their support reps. Simply state that you need a new download link for your account. We have already arranged for that link to deliver the new file.

Installing the 64-bit Version

After downloading the new file, run it to install ZBrush to your computer. Do not install it to your existing ZBrush 2 folder! The new ZBrush 2 folder will contain an executable called ZBrush2R2.exe. This file is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. ZBrush will automatically use the license file from your previous 32-bit installation.

After installation, copy any important files (such as plugins, documents, materials, etc.) to the new ZBrush 2 folder. When you are satisfied that you’re ready to remove the old copy of ZBrush from your computer, locate the executable within the ZBrush2\UninstallerData folder and run that. The old copy of ZBrush will be removed along with all of its associated folders and files.

Thanks much, and happy ZBrushing!

hooray!!

It’s wonderful that there is a 64 bit version out. Congrats, I’m hoping in the future to get a 64 bit system myself. But I’m thinking that a 64bit version of Z should be able to access more than 4 gigs of ram, right? Isn’t that the main benefit of 64bit systems; to address more physical ram. Thanks (I’m also hoping this means that version 2.5 is on the horizon too!!)

Nice!

I know this may seem like a stupid question  . but will zbrush 2.5 be released for both 32 bit and 64 bit machines? thanks for your time.

Thanks for doing this, hopefully it will get rid of some annoying out of memory issues, or perhaps take advantage of large paging files?

Looks like Element5 is having some problems, heh

“This service is currently unavailable due to technical reasons. Please try again later.”
Looking forward to testing it.

Very nice news!!!

Element 5 staff is a little confused. They are unaware of the 64 bit version. Provided me with the same download link as before. Hopefully this is now the 64 bit version.

Will this version only work with 4GB or less? The first post is a little fuzzy to me. Has it only been tested on systems with 4GB; or does it only work with 4GB or less? Our company computers now all use 8GB’s of RAM and we would really like to use our seats again. Thanks

Hooooray! Finally here!  Way the go Pixologic!:+1: :+1: :+1: I would suggest only one thing: post some link to this thread on the main page or something, 'coz it’s very easy to miss…

Congratulations on the accomplishment.

ZBrush 2 was optimized for no more than 4 GB of RAM. Therefore, the 64-bit version of ZBrush 2 cannot support more. As for 2.5, did you read the first sentence of the thread?

It will support both, yes.

I believe they were updating their servers last night. This caused a few hours’ downtime. It should be back to normal now.

As the initial post stated, the ZBrush 2 download now contains both 32-bit and 64-bit executables. Element 5 only needs to provide a new ZBrush 2 download link for our existing customers. Nothing needs to be said about 32-bit or 64-bit. That link will give both versions in a single download.

I just called element5 and everything went smooth like melted butter. Thank you Pixologic and element5! Now I’ve offically ran out of excuses not to work today.

Maybe a silly question but will this 64-bit version work with the Zmapper plugin for Photoshop and the other ones released by Pixologic?

I can verify that YES, Zmapper works in my situation(Photoshop and Painter) using XPx64 with 4 gig Physical RAM

Great news about 64 bit. I have been running a dual boot (XP 32 bit for Zbrush and XP 64 bit for Maya) and I was wondering if the license will still work in this situation?

When I first installed Zbrush on XP 64 bit awhile back, and it didn’t work, I installed it on the same machine (with dual-boot) on XP 32 bit but the license didn’t work because of the first install on 64. I had to ask for a new license and fortunately they sent me one.

Thanks
