I just hope they’ve fixed it so you can drag shelf panels and stuff onto a second monitor. That has always been one of my biggest gripes about Z2… my second monitor that I spent $700 on is going to waste, when I could have all of my tool parameters and things of that nature over there…
Being realistic, Pixologic must have to absorb a service fee paid to Element5 or whoever, for each licensed upgrade that is processed… so all the “free” upgrades for us equals a substantial net loss to them. That, of course, is on top of the perpetual “free” tech support we receive here in the forum AND those extremely useful “free” plugins extensions that streamline work flow.

So this 24hr delay thingy - is that 24hrs after the 15May midnight goal or 24hrs after that post was posted? Dang - the more I dig into the online materials and see all of the killer new functionality, the MORE I HAVE TO HAVE IT!!! This truly is TORTURE! But it’s gonna be oh so sweet to play with

You should ask them. My notion is that they are simply fulfilling a commitment - saying they are going to do something, then actually following through and doing it. Practically speaking, offering a free-upgrade serves to maintain a steady revenue stream that finances the upgrade and also pays the daily nut.

How does a FREE upgrade “…maintain a steady revenue stream…”? Upgrades in general do this but not free ones, and not usually major upgrades are offered free. Anyway, doesn’t really matter, just something to talk about while we wait.
With most software, potential buyers might be inclined to wait for the upgrade to be released before buying into a product (to avoid having to pay for an upgrade soon after paying full price for the current version). By declaring the upgrade to be free, Pixologic attracts a steady stream of potential buyers who have no reason to wait - in fact, users are encouraged to buy BEFORE the upgrade release because the new version might involve a price increase. It’s a win-win strategy for all concerned especially with a quality product like ZBrush.
Obviously, a steady stream of new buyers guarantees a steady revenue stream between product upgrades.

I did, though, buy a sixer of Sam yesterday to celebrate the ZB release with (hows that for dedication?). Of course, all I had to show for it today was a mild headache…
Sven, well it’s not uncommon for a mfg to offer a free upgrade for some software that will be upgraded soon, but, it is usually not offered as a free blanket upgrade for everyone who has version 2 to version 3. Usually this is done by saying anyone who bought after say Aug 15, 2006 will recieve a free upgrade. This does what you wanted to acccomplish, preserves a steady stream of new users, and revenue, but also gets money for upgrades to version 3 for all buyers that came before Aug 15 2006. Of course you have a bunch of pissed people who bought on Aug 14, 2006.

Not yet. According to latest information, we may see it at some point overnight. This thread is as good as any other to monitor with…there are many, as the subject is pretty inescapable.

Me too! So, what’s the deal, it’s now available for download but I have NOT gotten any email and now it is the 17th! I thought that the Pre-registration was to get me to the download sooner, like priority?
Plakkie, I believe that download emails are being sent out, probably in the order that people registered so as not to overload the servers. Just make sure you check your spam filter!
