Z3 is a great work. Good job Pixologic
For Z4 could I please have a proper 3 button alt click mouse navigation option like Maya and all would be perfect. Thanks

I do agree an alternative nav for mouse/maya etc users would silence literally millions
Although as a predominantly wacom pen/pad user I’m finding it very easy to navigate though I must admit, move the model by dragging outside, hold alt and drag to move/position, let go of alt after dragging to zoom in/out…piece of p*ss
if your working extremely close up and the model fills the entire canvas start your drags from the surrounding area or simply hide stuff your not working on!! Better get comfy waiting for Z4 me I’m too busy having fun with Z3…
I already has standard navigational tools. There’s no need for pixologic to make zbrush like maya…
Well if this truly is a wishlist, I guess layers for textures would make things perfect.
I think it NEEDS the alt maya navigation. people think that mudbox has a better interface simply for that reason.
i use maya at work. i also use xsi with the maya keymap. silo (best damn modeler ever) also uses maya navigation (and is completely customisable even mouse buttons).
it would definitely help people like me. i dont want to have to think about the controls.
Agreed, I need the ability to unify my zoom, pan and rotate controls (most mouse driven) across all my 3d apps. This would be a godsend. Very confusing.
I agree with the viewport nav comments, it really needs to be an option to customize the controls to what every main 3D app you normally use.
Not sure what are you talking about, i made this zscript to see if it your point, please let me know.
Thanks

ps: also you can add to each subtool material and color just press in the color panel fill object color.
Emm… I’m not sure what you were doing there anreseloy, were you just creating textures for different subtools? What I’m talking about is being able to paint on textures in different layers to the same tool. So, for example, say you were painting a face. You could paint the base colour on the entire model, then on another layer paint freckles, or blemishes, and another layer might be a blue-ish tint or something. Then if someone asks for the texture to be changed - but only the base colour, it’s just a matter of changing that one layer.
Pretty much like the 3D Layers, only with texture Layers instead.
You mean like Photoshop-Layers ? That would be cool, but ZappLink already provides a pipeline to Photoshop and there you can do all that and much more. So there is no really need to pump up ZBrush with that, or do I missunderstand you ?
Considering the license issues, email delays and Mac users breathing hard,
this takes first place in the Marie Antoinette Award.
this alt button and three mouse button madness again, this is insane. who is that crazy to use zbrush with mouse. and where would you put the alt button functions if you use to navigate with them.
however texture layers would be nice, i thought z3 have it
lol, speaking about ZBrush4 is a bit rash ^^
but i must agree, I also love the maya navigation. Maybe it give a way to implement it into the upcomming version of the hotkey editor.
I’m not sure how i would manage my keysettings because i would also like to keep the current alt functionallity but simply a keybinding for the camera navigation would be perfekt.
blakshep: my pen has also 3 buttons
Yes, photoshop style layers. I realise ZApplink provides that link to photoshop, but those layers must be collapsed to bring back into ZBrush. Besides, you only ever paint from one angle in ZApplink, then you have to reorient your tool and start again. The problem lies with UVmaps really. ZBrush provides a revolutionary way to get distortion free UV mapping, which is wonderful. So people at home can now skip unwrapping models and get down to the business of just painting what they like on their models. The problem is that in a production envinronment, it’s not you making final decisions, it’s your art director. And so if you go off and make a killer texture, but he decides to change something, it’s not easy to go back and change with no layers. That’s the reason I want them. Easy changes. That’s the reason 3D layers were implemented, I had sort of expected there to be the same flexibility with 2D layers.
I also feel rather uncomfortable with Zbrush navigation. I wish there would be customizable keyboard sortcuts and more ergonomic shortcuts to modify the brush parameters. For example : holding a key then just moving the cursor would decrease/increase (depending on the cursor moved left/down or right/up) the brush’s size or pressure.
I’ve made a plugin to add this last thing to the Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset. You can check a video demonstration ; comments are in french (yeah, the voice is a bit special ) but you should understand the concept if you watch the middle part of the video.
For me it’s one very intuitive and fast way of managing the brush with the interfaces we have (mouse/pen and keyboard)
I also would love to have a shortcut for the rotate function, because it’s problematic to have to click outside of the model to rotate it, when the model fills the whole screen…
that setting are in Silo2 beta and also MudBox but i feel very confortable wit the setup that already has Z3.
Andreseloy
thanks for the movie
ps: btw this thread in my thinking is out of the scope taking in account we have only two days playing with the gem and probably will be more apropiate to moved to community forum:D
Dear, your right ! Round of applause for Mudbox (and Silo, but not tested myself)
I agree with the viewport nav complaint. Honestly though, I doubt it will ever change, because there was plenty of feedback and support for this option in Z3 and apparently pixologic blew it off.
To those of you who are happy with Z’s native navigation arrangement bear in mind this: We’re only asking for the option… not to have it changed. ZBrush, regardless of what Pixologic is shooting for, is and in the foreseeable future always will be a pipeline tool for most professionals. Which means it needs to fit into a workflow better… which means when coming directly out of maya, even 4 years later, an artist shouldn’t instinctively alt+click+drag right over the face of his model when he’s trying to rotate.

I see.
So, it would be really a good idea.
I’m not sure if Bodypaint provides Layers in CD4-Version 10.
Wiill check this soon.
Well, what can I say? The 2 things you’ve listed here, are the only things I’m realy missing until now in Z3 And I was so sure they will change that in the new version
I realy don’t understand it? If they mastered to make 3D layer, why are there no simple texture layers? And why not give the users the choice, how to control ZBrush? I realy don’t know many other professionel programs, where you can’t chance the control… So if someone from Pixologic reads this, please do something, because you can see, many users have that opportunity. :o
