[deleted by moderator - absolutely nothing to do with ZBrush]
oh man… what are you talking about?!
chem!
…what?
any update on getting zapplink working? I’m running on vista 32 bit.
I kept on getting an error with or without startupdoucment. Both Zbrush and PS are running from as admin. I’m not sure what else I can do to get it working…
Ninja: which error?
Please, be accurate when describing an error
We are all talking about the same error. Zapplink fails if a startup document is in use.
Ninja wrote “an” error, not “the” error. I’m sorry, but all kind of errors can happen. Then I supposed it was this error, but to be sure that nothing else can happen.
got an Error encountered while attempting to launch external editor.
That’s that message box that pops up when i tried to use zapplink. I get the same error with or without startupdocument.
Running on vista 32 bit. Both zbrush and PS CS 3 are running from admin.
Thank you for the clarification Ninjatastic
Same error here. Vista 64bit pscs3 and zb3.5r3. The StartupDoc workaround does appear to work (but man…what a bug! 4.0 you can’t get here fast enough!) I’ll have to see if it does the same thing on the work box tomorrow. Oh noez!
I’ve got another workaround that i’ve been using successfully during the last week. As soon as you store at least one view in Document>ZAppLink Properties, ZB will find Photoshop. Never failed at least for me.
Sorry for posting that late, just missed this thread.
Hope it helps
Tried it… either the message box pops up or zbrush just crashed all together.
Sorry to hear that man
well … maybe if you just put the startup document back to where it belongs? I`ve never removed it you know.
The startup doc definitely seems to be the culprit. Both my and my co-workers boxes at work have the same issue. Taking out the startup doc allows zapplink to work. These are all vista 64bit machines with the proper running as admin etc.
I have been getting the same issue as everyone else here, I can’t use ZApplink until the StartupDocument is removed from ZStartup. This is kinda annoying so I’ve been keeping an eye on this thread for new ideas.
Ninjatastic, I tried your method and made a bit of progress. If I select at least one view from the ZApplink properties, I can at least launch Photoshop with no error message. However, when the file is sent to Photoshop to be painted, the format is different than normal. I am given a canvas with no top shaded layer, no bottom background layer, and the editable layer seams to have no mask. Upon saving and re-entering ZBrush, the object gets the color information applied, but then exits edit mode which cannot be selected until the subtool is changed and then changed back to the original. After this is done, the color information is gone. A weird side effect is that the subtool acts like a 2D paintbrush inside ZBrush while not in edit mode, before it is changed to another subtool and then changed back.
So in short, selecting at least one view will allow Photoshop to be launched for me, but no color information can be transferred back into ZBrush afterwords.
This doesn’t seem to be a fix, at least for me, but a step in the right direction. Thanks for the help everyone.
So at work here, zapplink will run without startupdocument. However, once i send it over to photoshop, but did not save the temp file, when I return to zbrush, it will crash. If i did save the temp file, zbrush is okay. weird huh?
I am getting the same result ninjatastic. No saving of the file and returning to zb unchanged results in a crash.
Same here,deleting the startup doc fixed the problem,thanks a lot <img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>
Same here!
With XP Pro SP2 and using Gimp 2.6 as painting program, I need to delete the StartupDocument.zbr in order to use ZAppLink correctly.
I hope they’ll fix that in next release.
Has someone of you informed Pixologic about that?
