Z Brush 4r7 tips ,,(Zmodeler)(nan mesh)(array mesh)(zremesher2.0)

Does anyone understand displacement rendering, because i read the description on the site , but I don’t see the difference from 4r6. I must be doing it wrong or dont know what i am looking at…

nevermind I got it

This update is mind blowing to me

ok,no problema,excuse me.

can you be more explicit to understand your issue?
thanks

Who are you talking to ,what issue ?

Thebest12:

I think what the person may have been trying to say was could you explain your findings in regards to displacement rendering. Tip/Tutorial maybe to share findings??? Just a guess.

I can only presume it’s something on the lines of gmp1993’s thread:

Hi,

neox1977 one way is with the zxmodeler brush is make the white temp polygroup u want o extrude . hover over one of the white polygons and go to extrude single poly . hope that helps

Moving Verts and Edges with a bit more accuracy tip:

I don’t know if this has been mentioned in this thread yet, but as the tip suggests, you could use:

The camera tools that are in ZAppLink in conjunction with the Axis Selectors. Recommend creating a custom Tray or drag them onto your interface sidebars.

  1. ZAppLink cameras can be found in: Document>ZAppLink Properties
Definitely read the Help file if you’ve not used these. Can be accessed in the same drop-down - button = ‘Help’
Setting up your cameras for Left, Right, Bottom, Top etc can save you a lot of time constantly rotating your model.

  2. Axis Selectors can be found in: Transform>Modifiers.

With the Axis Selectors you can constrain your movements to the 3 axis or a combination of.

For those having trouble with axis orientation, yep you can use the transpose tool to get an idea. You could also:

Use the Fill Mode for the Grid/Floor: This can be found in the Draw dropdown next to the Floor/Grid icon. Then using the Floor/Grid icon swap between x,y,z to get your bearings.
(someone might like it)

You can also increase your axis line length: Draw drop-down next to ‘Grid In BPR’ button

Anyway, might help someone.

cheers

you have to know when to use z modeler and when not to, This looks painful…I guess you can do this if you are trying to make base model library

Excuse me if this is an extremely silly question, but is it possible to move an edge loop using zmodeler?

Yes. Hold cursor over an edge, choose Slide and then the Target Edgeloop Complete or Partial.

You rock! Thanks!

Hi, long time visitor to ZBC but never post. Loving the new zmodeler. Im making tank treads and thought using array mesh would be a perfect solution for me. I also found this youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXBIU4MFiD0
which is near identical to what I’m trying to do. Well, I must have watched this a hundred times and have spent a couple hours banging against a wall with the array mesh function. I can get close, but I cant get the precision i need for my tank treads (in the video they are floating).
In the end, I decided to just settle on placing them 1 by 1 and keeping the instancing feature of this tool. Only problem is, you have to place 2 at a time (I’m using the chain button)! Whats worse, is one of them is locked in position and you can only move one of them. If you turn array mesh to 1 it thinks you dont want to array anymore and it greys the whole menu out (because why would I only want 1 in an array, right?).
The truth is, I could care less about the ARRAY part of it, all I really want is the functionality of the instancing. Why cant I place each instance manually? What a weird requirement for such an otherwise awesome tool. I guess I’ll only want to use array when i’m putting things in a perfect line or circle? To curve an array is terribly inaccurate as well as an exercise of imprecise patience.
If anyone knows a work around for this that does not break the instancing, I would be forever in your debt.
Thanks,
Lightning

People must be really practicing z modeler, because you cant find many tutorials and I haven’t seen one person do anything amazing(yet)…I am practicing my ass off…I don’t care what anyone says z modeler is the truth…Now i have to find a modelling tool to complement it. I was thinking blender or Maya, because I still need a modeling tool that has more than 1 view port. I mainly use z modeler for making insert brushes and asset like guns and grenades. i know people will f, so what do you guys think of z modeler

I think Zmodeler is amazing. it’s simple straight foward and so powerfull. it’s great to to start making a base mesh here instead of going back in forth to another program for polygonakl mopdeling . after that you can use dynamesh nanomesh insert brushes etc to make whatever u want or use it with conjunction to those.

Yes, I like it, too. I think of it as a much more powerful, boxy, version of ZSpheres… which I just could NEVER get the hang of.

I hope this help

thebeat12 thank you was informative for me

On the pixologic website David Richardson has a great video demoing his workflow for his zbrush4r7 betatesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvmrXuBb-vw

I see this a lot people come from Max or Maya or some other typical 3d program and model the way they would as in zbrush as if they are still modeling in max or something. Zmodeller is a great tool but you must combine it with the rest of zbrush to get the full power out of it.

Stop pushing and pulling verts and start using slice tool and groups…
