Rhaaaa… i think that i’ll maybe disapoint you Al. but i don’t want to make a cartoonish clock but grandma’s one At least a semi realistic one…
My creature is not cartoonish so it wouldn’ work i think.
Beautiful work on the clock and staff! !
Thanks ETCHER!!
NEW PROBLEM : DO I KEEP THE BOOK UNDER THE CLOCK OR NOT?
thanks again for your help
maybe i only dislike the inner part of the circle with the flower stuff. i don’t know why cartoonish is maybe wrong worded i only thought of a simpler one than that what you got there to start off. but as i said i’m not afraid that it would’nt work if you are going the way you’ve started  and i think you should work with the book
Ahhhhh the book is a big problem.
For me, even if the book is nice, i think that it’s a bit too much… i need to focus my effort on the creature and the clock. If i see that i have time left i’ll do the book… for now it’s just an extra.
what’s your opinion?
Cédric, I thought the book was there for 2 reasons:
-
Aesthetically/storywise: some kind of storytelling book in which a part of the character’s myth was told.
-
functional: making sure the print wouldn’t topple (=with the gravity point of the entire sculpt being so high).
So, in my opinion, if the print won’t topple without the book, and you don’t need the book to bring out the story, you can leave it out.
Hope I could be of some help… .

In fact this creature creates dreams and nightmares. he digs in your mind to find what will be the base of our dreams… So the book is more a blink to the book you read before sleeping. It’s not related to the creature itself. -

That’s what the book was designed for. But i’m going to try to find the good balance without it. maybe i’ll reduce my character too…

I’ll try to make the sculpt not toppling… If i don’t find the good balance i’ll add the book.
I think that i’ll post a picture of the creature with the clock in order to have your feedback soon.
Thanks for your help.
Ok Cédric, I’ll wait for the new pics (maybe a 360° would help too). Storywise, I think it’s ok to leave the book out. On the balance issue, that’s what happens when you’re exploring new techniques: sometimes something could go wrong. If the print shop can’t give you clear instructions, you can always glue the piece on a neutral plate/base.

Hey YONA, so you´ve decided to sculpt just the clock and the little Nightmaker? No book? As I said on cgCoach – I think that´s a good choice.
I agree – it would be too much since the clock is very detailed.
Can´t wait to see the clock although it reminds me that time is getting short!
Hello!
Here’s a new update with the clock!
You can see Aoc pass for the modeling before the sculpt and at the end the begining of the sculpt
argh i couldn’t help myself modeling the boook!!!
But i’m bot sure i’m gonna keep it.
Now that you can see it, what do you think about it? Of course it’s not sculpted yet…
Man this is coming along so nicely!! Awesome
nice clock
almost looks like another face
Great work on the clock and -don’t hate me for saying this- the book looks good too… . !
The clock is fantastic but to be honest I´m not sure if the clock face fits to the rest.
Please don´t get me wrong – the clock face itself is beautiful.
I´m just not sure if it isn´t too distracing because it is very detailed and the Nightmaker is very detailed, too.
I´m having the same problem with my horse at the moment. I want to detail the head (more veins and interesting muscle structures) but it doesn´t look good if the horns are detailed too – in top of that in a different style.
Anyway – back to your model –
Now I don´t think the book is a problem.
The only “problem” is that I think the whole model will be very high. I don´t think it would be a problem to print it ( I saw some crazy 3D prints and the printing companies can print more than I would have ever dreamed of :))
I´m just not sure about the composition – maybe it looks too stacked in the end?
If I were you I´d maybe position the little Nightmaker not on top of the clock. Maybe climbing up on side but I know there´s little scope left since you want that no mask is hidden by the clock.
Sorry I don´t have a good suggestion.
Anyway – do what you enjoy, YONA.
However you do it – I enjoy seeing your work.
Well Moni, don’t worry, i completly understand what you’re explaining to me. And believe me i take care of your advice.
To be honest i’m not sure to keep thes details too, that’s why i had a plan
The face with details is removable so i can decide to keep it or not
1/ if i make my creature climbing, he will hide the face a lot so i think i’ll keep the details.
2/ if i put my buddy on the top, i’ll see the balance, and will decide to keep it or not… you’ll see that step and will give me your opinion.
But for me he will be at the top climbing down to the book. Like this we’ll see all the masks and i’ll be able to make a lot of contacts with the clock and the book to make the 3D print stronger.
Thank you for your help. I like when i can exchange on my work. Especially when people don’t agree with my choices… it’s always exciting
Cool clock !
That’s a damn nice clock!
“The clock is fantastic but to be honest I´m not sure if the clock face fits to the rest”
- same for me, the clock is really cool but maybe less detailed face would work out better
Today i’ve finished the volume inside the masks. I’ve also added all the lights.
Then i’ve started to decimate all the elements to bring it in XSI.
Saturday i’ll put the character with the clock to make the final pose and model all the legs/arms.
the legs/arms posing will be the toughest thing to do i think.
Then well… i’ll refine the book, the clock and zouuuu… i’ll make my first rendering tests…
Here are some Ambient occlusion tests…
I like this kind of render because it helps to see if the sculpt looks good or not…and it’s easy to do
