here’s a suit of armor I have been working on for a class. It’s a mix between metal and leather armor, with influences from medieval plate, Samurai and Roman armor and the movie Gladiator.
my finished armor (at some point I will do all the inlay and filigree in gold, no time at the moment)
its lookin cool, keep it up!
Here’s some other stuff I’ve been working on. These are basically just sketches, but I textured them for use in an Unreal Mod I’ve been a part of.
Here’s a Dwarf bust I’m working on, obviously quite early in the process. Thoughts, critiques and comments are welcome
Hey Xenier,
For the dwarf head, I would smooth and work out the forms more before going to a higher subdivision. And since it’s in the early stages, it’s a perfect time to do it. The folds will look great if refined more.
Also, from the pic you posted, try and look at the silouhette. See the bumpy parts on the brow for example, that would be something to work out a little better. Take your time and I am sure it will look great in the end.
ok, I did as you suggested and worked more of the folds and secondary forms. Comments?
thoughts on the skin texture?
looking good, but I think the pores needs more variation is sizes and placements. for example, bigger pores on the sides of the nostrals and the end, like where blackheads usually appear. also on the chin. etc
better?
any thoughts on the color of the character?
Hey Xenier! I like seeing how hard you are working on this piece. I actually really like the coloring you have as a base and the very fine detail looks pretty good (except on the upper eyelids). I just wanted to encourage you to perhaps take a look at “deflating” him a bit. He looks very swollen and a little out of control as far as volumes go. Just turn your polypaint off for now and try slowly smoothing some of these big chunky forms down at a low subdivision and see how he looks. I realize he’s one of those hefty dwarf characters but I bet you’d have an even stronger character if you toned all that down a bit. I want to see those eyes!
Hope I helped.
I took what you said into consideration and made changes accordingly. Is this kind of what you had in mind?
well, kinda. I can see he’s deflated a bit but he’s still quite a bit lumpy. Check out some face anatomy reference and work on getting the major forms of the face. Take a look at the shape of the eyelids around the eye and how they are supposed to “hold” the eyeball, check out the nasal labial fold and how it should fall off the top of the nose and then down around the mouth, pay attention to the skeletal structure of the face as a whole.
Hope I’ve helped.
here’s a some more work around the eyes, it’s a little hard to see here, but I made the nasal fold flow more from the top of the nose so it’s not as harsh a transition down the side of his face.
here he is finished, handing him in tomorrow!
Cool, Fantastic work, great.
